The truth of those assertions over the last several days and on the floor of the House of Representatives today, was never more evident than in the deceptive statements of democrats Nancy Pelosi, Rahm Imanuel and Barney Frank who continued to blame Republicans and the Bush Administration for the current economic debacle in total denial and deflection of the fact that it was Democrats in the House and Senate - not Republicans - who refused over the last 15 years, to work with Republicans who sought a solution to the causes of the current financial threat to all Americans. Democrats Blocked Reform of Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac In an Investor's Daily editorial on September 26th titled, "Saddest Thing About This Mess: Congress Had Chance To Stop It", the following comments were made. . . "As early as 1992, alarm bells were going off on the threat Fannie and Freddie posed to our financial system and our economy. Intervention at any point could have staved off today's crisis. But Democrats in Congress stood in the way." "As the president recently said, Democrats have been "resisting any efforts by Republicans in the Congress or by me . . . to put some standards and tighten up a little on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac." No, it wasn't President Bush who said that; it was President Clinton, Democrat, speaking just last week." "Even after regulators in 2003 uncovered a scheme by Fannie and Freddie executives to overstate earnings by $10.6 billion to boost bonuses, Democrats killed reform." "Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are not facing any kind of financial crisis," said Rep. Frank, then-ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee. "Sen. Harry Reid - now Majority Leader - accused the GOP of trying to "cripple the ability of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to carry out their mission of expanding homeownership." 40 Days for Life starts in less than two days and there are some great events scheduled for Wednesday, September 24, 2008 and on Respect Life Sunday there will be Life Chains across the nation including Portland. Earlier in the day there is a special mass at Cathedral.

Christina is trying to get people for everyday of the week up on MLK, please contact her. Folks let us really work hard for these 40 days and let everyone know that we do not want Planned Parenthood on MLK. Let us pray, pass out fliers, get signatures, pray and stand for life and write letters and make calls to city officials.

Kick off event is on September 24, 2008 at 3:00pm at Holy Redeemer, 6606 N Williams Ave, Portland, OR 97217 (map). At 4:30pm we pray and sing at Beech St. and MLK Blvd (map) and then proceed for a special meal at Holy Rosary at 375 N.E. Clackamas St., Portland, OR 97232 (map) at 6:00pm.

Folks last fall we had nearly 400 show up for Life Chain. Let us have at least 4000 thousand so that we can line both sides of the streets for blocks. There has to be thousands of people in the Portland area who can come out for one hour on Sunday and Stand and Pray for Life. Please tell all at your churches, places of business and other organizations.
