The Battle for Marriage and Family Heats Up Oregon, California, Maryland May 29, 2008 Today is the day the Oregon Supreme Court should release it's ruling on the Attorney General's wording for Initiative Petition 145 to repeal SB 2, special rights for homosexuals, lesbians, bisexuals, transgenders and those claiming gender confusion. The Court could, and should have, released it's decision last week at this time out of respect for Oregon's citizens, but did not. If the Court fails to do so this week, it raises serious questions along the lines of those raised by the Election Division's fradulent efforts to prevent the VOTERS of Oregon from VOTING on laws they know the VOTERS will object to.

Oregon Court of Appeals upholds the will of the people and Constitutionality of Oregon's Marriage Amendment Given the continuing judicial and legislative onslaught across the nation against traditional marriage by judges and public officials with their own agenda, and the propensity of Basic Rights Oregon and the ACLU to impede the process, the decision of the Oregon Court of Appeals on May 21st will, in all likelihood, be appealed to the Oregon Supreme Court. The question arises whether the Supreme Court - with three openly 'gay' justices - will hear an appeal, and prevail in implementing their own social policy upon all Oregonians. Considering the social engineering and defiance of the California Supreme Court, it is altogether possible. Marriage Still Sacred in Oregon Madness in Maryland Parallels Oregon - and California Activist Judges and elected officials - performing yeoman service like obedient slaves to 2% of America's population - are knowingly ignoring the will of the American people in order to carry out the social policy agenda of well organized sodomite activists. Consider Maryland's Attorney General who supported a same-sex marriage bill. "When he was asked if he would continue to support the measure if its passage were made contingent upon referring it to voters. . . said he would not. He was asked why." His answer? "Because it would fail." Sound familiar? Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski knew the outcome of Measure 36 in 2004, clearly expressing the will of the people of Oregon, and so did every democrat in the Oregon Legislature. And yet, he, and they, forged ahead with first, SB 1000 in the 2005 legislature, and then SB 2 and HB 2007 in the 2007 legislature. Statement on the Signing of Domestic Partnerships Bills Basic Rights Oregon continues tactics to prevent Oregonians from VOTING on Domestic Partnerships Not surprisingly - and just as they have at each step of the process - BRO, the falsely named face of the homosexual agenda in Oregon, waited to the last minute to file an appeal with the Oregon Supreme Court to contest the Attorney General's certified ballot title wording for Initiative petition 146. 146 was filed on March 31st and appealed by BRO on the very last day to appeal - as they have at each juncture in the process - the last being to the Oregon Supreme Court on May 22nd. So much for their interest in and respect for the people of Oregon, the Initiative process, and government of, by, and for the people. Given what seems to be the Oregon Supreme Court's disinterest in an expedited decision to allow sufficient time for Oregon's citizens to collect signatures on 145, 146 may well be dead on arrival, thwarting the will of Oregonians once again. "Therefore, as surely as I live, declares the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, surely Moab will become like Sodom, the Ammonites like Gomorrah--a place of weeds and salt pits, a wasteland forever. The remnant of my people will plunder them; the survivors of my nation will inherit their land. This is what they will get in return for their pride, for insulting and mocking the people of the LORD Almighty. The LORD will be awesome to them when He destroys all the gods of the land. God rules in Oregon

Hello All:
This is an answer to prayer in this battle to save Marriage.
Oregon has been under fire since 1973 battling this homosexual agenda.
Somehow "We the People" have been forgotten in this part of the system that was designed to allow the people to set social policy.
The people had already voted, and the outcome was not even close to a dispute.

Marriage still sacred in Oregon

Oregon's marriage protection amendment has been upheld by a state appeals court there.

Measure 36, the amendment to Oregon's constitution declaring that marriage may only be the union of one man and one woman, was ruled constitutional last week by the Court of Appeals for the State of Oregon. Brian Raum, senior legal counsel with the Alliance Defense Fund (ADF), praised the ruling.

"We're very happy that the court ruled that the marriage amendment in Oregon is valid and upheld that amendment," Raum explains.

Officials in Beaumont, Texas, agree to change ordinance
that resulted in arrest of pro-family advocates

BEAUMONT, Texas — An Alliance Defense Fund allied attorney has secured a settlement with city of Beaumont officials that will result in changes to an ordinance that violates the First Amendment rights of citizens wishing to publicly express their views. Under the old ordinance, two men were arrested and charged for sharing their religious views on a public sidewalk.

“Christians shouldn’t be penalized for expressing their beliefs. Arresting Christians simply because they choose to exercise their First Amendment rights in a public place is unconstitutional,” said ADF-allied attorney Len Brown of the law firm Clymer and Musser, P.C., who litigated the case together with attorney David Dye of the same firm.

In November 2005, Wally Langford and Jeremy Burt stood on a public sidewalk in Beaumont. Langford expressed his views about homosexual behavior to people in the area. Both men also held signs expressing their message.

The police forced Langford and Burt to stop speaking and proceeded to arrest both men. A video recording of the interaction between the men and the police showed that their detainment was based strictly on the content of their message and the fact that it was “upsetting” people. Both were charged and tried for violations of city noise ordinances.

Because Beaumont officials have agreed to amend the city’s noise ordinance to include a decibel level and comport with other federal constitutional requirements, Brown filed a voluntary dismissal of the lawsuit, Langford v. City of Beaumont, with the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. As part of the agreement, police officers will also receive training regarding First Amendment rights as it relates to their duty to enforce criminal law.

Good News: Oregon Court Upholds Marriage Amendment

The Oregon Court of Appeals ruled this week that the state’s constitutional amendment affirming marriage as the union between one man and one woman is constitutional.

In November 2004, the amendment passed with 57 percent of the votes. Homosexual activists then filed a lawsuit to nullify the vote. When a circuit court ruled the amendment was constitutional, homosexual activists appealed to the state appellate court.

The Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) provided funding to attorney Kelly Clark, who defended the amendment before the court on behalf of the Defense of Marriage Coalition.

“The government should promote and encourage strong families,” ADF Senior Counsel Brian Raum said. “In this case, advocates of homosexual behavior attempted to overrule the will of the people, who recognize that the best environment for children is within a marriage between one man and one woman."

To all of my dear friends across America, the Lord has moved upon me to issue a call to action for everyone that has been blessed by the various ministries of James Hartline. To the thousands of faithful readers of the James Hartline Report and the California Christian News, I am asking you to set aside Saturday - May 31, 2008 for an entire day of prayer and fasting.

I am asking that God's will would be accomplished during the June 3, 2008 California Primary Election. For the past year, I have been running for the San Diego City Council. When the Lord urged me to put my name in the race, the powers that control the political system in San Diego said that I would fail and give up. They mocked me and denegrated my efforts every step of the way. With the help of the Lord Jesus Christ, I have stayed the course and followed obediently the path that God has laid out before me. Not one time have I compromised my values or the Word of God to get a vote or to get money.

I am going to set aside the entire day of Saturday - May 31, 2008 to pray and fast before my God. Even though I need to go out and talk to voters and hand out campaign literature every day leading up to the election, I am sacrificing my political needs by putting God first on May 31st. Instead of campaigning on May 31, I will be praying and fasting.

When the ancient nation of Israel was coming out of 400 years of slavery and wandering in the wilderness, the Lord graciously began to bring His people back into the land promised to them by Jehovah. Awaiting them were many treacherous enemies. Ezra and Nehemiah were given the task of helping to rebuild the governmental structure of the Israelites after hundreds of years of captivity. They knew that without God's help they would not succeed. Indeed, they prayed and fasted, much like I am asking you to do on Saturday - May 31, 2008.

Ezra writes of those difficult times in his book that God orchestrated a successful reclamation of the land from their enemies. It was through prayer and fasting that such a victory was accomplished. Here is what is written in the Bible of Ezra's great plan given to him by God to re-establish the government of Israel:

"And you, Ezra, according to your God-given wisdom, set magistrates and judges

who may judge all the people who are in the region beyond the River, all such as

know the laws of your God; and teach those who do not know them."

"Blessed be the LORD, the God of our fathers, who has put {such a thing} as this in

the king's heart, to adorn the house of the LORD which is in Jerusalem, and has

extended lovingkindness to me before the king and his counselors and before all the

king's mighty princes. Thus I was strengthened according to the hand of the LORD my

God upon me, and I gathered leading men from Israel to go up with me."

Will you believe with me that God will grant us great miracles on June 3, 2008? Will you join me for an entire day of prayer and fasting on Saturday - May 31, 2008?

Like Ezra and Nehemiah, I will be seeking God through prayer and fasting that our God will send forth His victory on our behalf to reclaim San Diego, as well as the rest of this nation.

Obama - Clinton - McCain, & The Homosexual Agenda

Same Sex Marriage & The Presidential Race Implications for Oregon May 21, 2008 Is it possible that the May 15, 2008 4-3 decision by the California Supreme Court to force same-sex marriage on the people of that state might have sealed the fate of Senator Barack Obama? It was four years ago on May 17, 2004 that same-sex marriage began in Massachusetts, thanks to a similar decision by that state's high court. The following day, May 18, Phil Burress, Chairman of the Ohio Campaign to Protect Marriage, began the effort to place on the Ohio ballot a state constitutional amendment to protect Ohio from such judicial activism. John Kerry was "out of synch" with the American people on 'same sex marriage' In 1996 Senator John Kerry declared his support for same-sex marriage by being one of only 14 Senators who voted against the Federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). That vote eight years prior proved to be Senator Kerry's undoing in Ohio in 2004. Most of the mainstream media as well as political pundits have stated that President Bush won in Ohio because of the Marriage Amendment. The Media was 'out of synch' with the people on 'same sex marriage' In the 11 states where marriage amendments were on the ballot in 2004, 94 percent of the major newspapers opposed the measures. But the people of those states voted by nearly a 70 percent margin in favor of traditional marriage - showing that voters will not be swayed by the media when it comes to marriage! In 2004 Ohio's marriage amendment passed by a 62 percent margin. According to a poll conducted by a homosexual activist organization, the number of Ohioans who oppose same-sex marriage actually has risen dramatically since. The People were not in agreement with Kerry or the Media In 2004, Market Strategies, an independent firm conducted a poll to determine the impact the marriage amendment would have on Ohio voters. Polling data showed the marriage amendment would swing undecided voters toward Bush by a 6 to 1 margin, and would double African-American votes for Bush. Their predictions proved correct on both counts. When exit polls showed Senator Kerry winning in five out of six major Ohio cities (Cleveland, Dayton, Akron/Canton, Toledo and Columbus), no one who understood Ohio politics thought that Bush could win. Never in the history of Ohio elections had anyone lost in all those major markets and won a statewide race, But Bush won - by 118,599 votes, a two percent margin. What the "experts" did not anticipate was the turnout of conservative voters in rural Ohio, where folks came out to vote for the marriage amendment. Eighty-seven of Ohio's 88 counties voted against same-sex marriage. Even 469,000 Kerry voters voted against same-sex marriage. Will History repeat itself? If Ohio's marriage amendment swung Ohio for President Bush against what many considered insurmountable odds, what effect might the issue of same-sex marriage have on the 2008 Presidential Election? On the issue of same-sex marriage, the difference between Senators McCain and Obama (or Clinton, should she prevail) is even more distinct than the Bush/Kerry divide. In 2004, President Bush did not actively campaign in favor of that year's statewide marriage amendments. At a March 7, 2008 meeting in New Orleans, Phil Burres, Chairman of the Ohio Campaign to Protect Marriage - and the source of this information - asked Senator McCain in the presence of 1,000 attendees if he would "openly campaign for the marriage amendment already on the ballot in Florida and the ones likely to be on ballots in Arizona and California." His immediate response was an emphatic "Yes!"

It depends on Senator McCain Senators Obama and Clinton may be on the record as being in favor of traditional marriage with support for domestic partnerships, but their voting records, their campaign rhetoric, and their response to the recent California decision clearly place them in the same mold as Senator Kerry, who opposed same-sex marriage with a wink. The answer to the question depends on Senator McCain. We know that the mainstream media still stands in support of same-sex marriage. And we know that the majority of the American voters still stand opposed. Senator McCain needs to force this issue into the election equation. He needs to make it very clear that he is opposed to same-sex marriage and back up his talk with action by supporting the Marriage Amendments in Florida, Arizona and California. Without a doubt Senator Obama (or Clinton) will try to keep endorsement of same-sex marriage low-key. They both know that history might well repeat itself. Implications for Oregon In 2004 Oregonians said "NO" to so called 'same sex marriage' 57% to 43% under similar circumstances. In spite of the will of the people and the amended Constitution, the legislature and the governor created marriage by another name calling it 'domestic partnerships'. In addition they created special 'rights' and privileges for homosexuals that have never existed before that will restrict freedom of speech, create greater social and civic division, and lead to lawsuits against business owners, public school officials, and anyone who expresses a different perspective. Since that time state and federal officials have done their best to ensure the people of Oregon do not vote on repealing these two laws. The more citizens become aware of the damage to children, families, and our rights of speech and conscience, the more they are opposed to both 'domestic partnerships' and privileges for homosexuals. With regard to 'domestic partnerships' proponents have openly stated that it is only a 'stepping stone' to same sex marriage and ultimately the destruction of marriage itself. If the Oregon Supreme Court acts timely in the next few weeks as the law instructs, and voters throughout Oregon sign Initiative petitions 145 and 146, we will have the opportunity to exercise our voting right to once again say "NO" to 'same sex marriage' as well as special rights for homosexuals. With opposition rising nationwide to this aggressive and self serving agenda, fewer and fewer politicians will want to accommodate their wishes any further. California's Judicial Tyranny-Oregon's Parallel

California Supremes Defy the People! Implications for Oregon May 16, 2008 "The original error [was in] establishing a judiciary independent of the nation, and which, from the citadel of the law, can turn its guns on those they were meant to defend, and control and fashion their proceedings to its own will." Thomas Jefferson Most Oregonians have heard by now that by a 4 to 3 vote, the California Supreme Court rejected the will of Californians to limit marriage to a man and a woman. What they have not heard however, were the opinions of the three dissenting justices, Justice Marvin R. Baxter, Justice Ming W. Chin, and Justice Carol J. Corrigan, quoted here in part. Profound Error As quoted by Jan LaRue, respected family policy analyst in Washington D.C., Justice Baxter, joined by Justice Chin, in their dissenting opinion, called the ruling a "startling" act of "legal jujitsu" that "oversteps judicial power." Baxter wrote: "I cannot join the majority's holding that the California Constitution gives same-sex couples a right to marry. In reaching this decision, I believe, the majority violates the separation of powers, and thereby commits profound error. Only one other American state recognizes the right the majority announces today. So far, Congress, and virtually every court to consider the issue, has rejected it. Nothing in our Constitution, express or implicit, compels the majority's startling conclusion that the age-old understanding of marriage - an understanding recently confirmed by an initiative law - is no longer valid." (Highlights mine) Judicial Fiat Baxter went on to say, "But a bare majority of this court, not satisfied with the pace of democratic change, now abruptly forestalls that process and substitutes, by judicial fiat, its own social policy views for those expressed by the People themselves. Undeterred by the strong weight of state and federal law and authority, the majority invents a new constitutional right, immune from the ordinary process of legislative consideration. The majority finds that our Constitution suddenly demands no less than a permanent redefinition of marriage, regardless of the popular will." Overriding the Voters without Right or Justification Justice Carol A. Corrigan writing in her dissenting opinion said, "The voters who passed Proposition 22 not long ago decided to keep the meaning of marriage as it has always been understood in California. The majority improperly infringes on the prerogative of the voters by overriding their decision. It does that which it acknowledges it should not do: it redefines marriage because it believes marriage should be redefined .... It justifies its decision by finding a constitutional infirmity where none exists." Closed Minded Religionists From its 'citadel of the law', four (4) unelected judges, by a one (1) vote margin - as Jefferson said - have 'turned' their 'guns on those they were meant to defend.' By ignoring and defying the will of the people of California, these judges have demonstrated a profoundly self righteous arrogance, a trait reserved in the minds of the erudite elite in America - and Oregon - for legalistic and closed minded religionists. They are hypocrites and nothing less than judicial tyrants.

The Question for Oregonians LaRue closes her comments as follows: "As important as the institution of marriage is for society in general, and children in particular, there is far more at stake in this ruling. The question for Californians is: Are you going to surrender your sovereign right to rule yourselves to four black-robed despots who've ignored your will and perverted your constitution? And for clergy in particular, are you going to lead your people in taking righteous action, or hide behind a "nonpolitical" pulpit while God's ordained and holy institution is profaned?" Her question is relevant to Oregon's Christian Community as well. Are we going to 'surrender' to a despotic governor and legislature as well as a federal judge, all of whom despise our expressed will, and pervert our constitution? Or will we do all in our power to ensure Initiatives 145 and 146 receive the required signatures to place both 'domestic partnerships' and special rights and privileges for homosexuals, lesbians, bisexuals, transgenders and those who claim sexual confusion, on the November ballot? Friend or Foe Graduation Prayer Campaign

Friend or Foe Graduation Prayer Campaign

The purpose of Liberty Counsel's annual "Friend or Foe" Graduation Prayer Campaign is to protect religious viewpoints at graduation. Liberty Counsel will be the friend of schools that recognize the free speech rights of students and the foe of those that violate their constitutional rights. The key to graduation prayer is that the school should remain neutral - neither commanding nor prohibiting voluntary prayer or religious viewpoints.

Liberty Counsel will educate and, if necessary, litigate to ensure that prayer and religious views are not suppressed during graduation ceremonies across the Nation.

Liberty Counsel is distributing red prayer wristbands which students can wear as a reminder to pray at graduation and all throughout the school year. The wristbands are embossed with "I WILL PRAY" and "PRAY WITHOUT CEASING - I THESS. 5:17." Students have the constitutional right to wear religious jewelry and to pray during noninstructional times while at school. Liberty Counsel also has a free legal memo on graduation prayer.

In order to receive federal funds under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965, every local school district must certify that it is not engaging in any policy or practice which interferes with constitutionally protected prayer. Schools may lose federal funds if they fail to comply with the guidelines.

UT President Lloyd Jacobs has overtly discriminated against Crystal Dixon, a black, Christian employee, because of her constitutionally protected viewpoint regarding the civil rights movement.

Dixon, who was Associate Vice President of Human Resources at UT, was fired from her job because she wrote a letter to the editor, as a private citizen, which was published in the Toledo Free Press. In the letter, Dixon addressed the false comparisons often made between the genuine and very worthy civil rights movement and efforts by militant homosexual activists to gain special rights based upon aberrant sexual preferences. Many African-Americans take great exception to such specious and offensive comparisons, and Dixon was no exception.

The letter was in response to a column by Toledo Free Press Editor-in-Chief Michael S. Miller in which he deceptively compared deviant and changeable homosexual behaviors to innate and immutable characteristics such as skin color and physical disability.

In her letter, Dixon wrote, in part, "I respectfully submit a different perspective for Miller and Toledo Free Press readers to consider. … First, human beings, regardless of their choices in life, are of ultimate value to God and should be viewed the same by others. At the same time, one's personal choices lead to outcomes either positive or negative.

"As a black woman who happens to be an alumnus of the University of Toledo's Graduate School, an employee and business owner, I take great umbrage at the notion that those choosing the homosexual lifestyle are 'civil rights victims.' Here's why. I cannot wake up tomorrow and not be a black woman. I am genetically and biologically a black woman and very pleased to be so as my Creator intended. Daily, thousands of homosexuals make a life decision to leave the gay lifestyle evidenced by the growing population of PFOX (Parents and Friends of Ex Gays) and Exodus International just to name a few."

Dixon goes on to address God's intended natural and biological design for human sexuality, writing, "[T]here are consequences for each of our choices, including those [which] violate God's divine order.

"It is base human nature to revolt and become indignant when the world, or even God Himself, disagrees with our choice that violates His divine order."

Ironically, Dixon's own consequence for choosing to violate the world's not-so-divine order of political correctness was both swift and severe. Jacobs first suspended her and then fired her a few days later.

Jacobs' actions amount to a prima facie violation of the U.S. Constitution, Ohio's state constitution and Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. Dixon has obtained the services of the Michigan based Thomas More Law Center, and is considering legal action against the university.

Take Action
Don't let this egregious and discriminatory action by the University of Toledo be ignored. Please do the following:

• Pray for Crystal Dixon as she seeks the Lord's guidance during this trying time of persecution;
• Contact University of Toledo President Lloyd Jacobs and respectfully request that he immediately reinstate Crystal Dixon and issue a public apology to her, the African-American community and to Christians worldwide. Gay Activists Visit Six Mega-Churches

Christians encouraged to respond with 'compassion, not compromise.'

They call it The American Family Outing: Families from across the country travel to six mega-churches to "create meaningful conversations" about faith and homosexuality.

The gay-activist group Soulforce kicked off its six-week initiative with a stop at Joel Osteen's Lakewood Church on Mother's Day; the effort wraps up on Father's Day. Osteen declined an invitation to meet with Soulforce.

Jeff Buchanan, director of church equipping at Exodus International, said each church needs to assess whether a meeting would be helpful.

"I would be completely open to having a meaningful conversation, if both parties were humbly submitted in that conversation," he said. "I would not enter into a conversation if I knew there was not a sincere openness to the truth."

One of the goals of the initiative, according to Soulforce, is to enlist churches in the battle to end "the physical and spiritual violence perpetuated by some religious voices against LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered) people and their families."

Buchanan said he is concerned by the stereotype that all churches are party to that violence.

He recommended churches — and all Christians — embrace the issue "with compassion, not compromise."

Melissa Fryrear, director of the gender issues department at Focus on the Family, agreed: "As biblically orthodox Christians respond to issues surrounding homosexuality, and more importantly to those affected by this difficult struggle, we must always hold these two points in balance and in complement — the inerrant truth of God's word regarding sexual behavior and the compassionate grace of our Lord Jesus toward those living outside of it."

Tomorrow will be a historically significant occasion, as the California Supreme Court will hand down a decision in a four-year-old dispute over the constitutionality of California's marriage laws.

This is a precedent-setting case in which Liberty Counsel has defended California's marriage laws since 2004. We have been working diligently to defend marriage as the union of one man and one woman. Those working on the opposite side to radically change the definition of marriage include the City and County of San Francisco, the ACLU, pro-homosexual activist groups, and several same-sex couples.

The Court has announced that it will release the opinion tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. PT (1:00 p.m. ET).

"This past Saturday was homosexual "Youth Pride Day" in Boston, run by the tax-funded Massachusetts Commission on Gay Lesbian Bisexual and Transgender Youth. It included a "celebration" on the Boston Common followed by a parade past the State House and a "transgender prom" that evening at Boston City Hall. Kids were bussed in from all over the state. Homosexual activists were everywhere. The "celebration" drew a huge crowd of hundreds of kids around a stage and several invited speakers. There was a main theme, which was constantly repeated: The kids need to understand that they are being oppressed by our homophobic society, which doesn't allow them to enjoy their true (gay) sexuality. The kids were given these hardcore sexual propaganda handouts: "History of Saints Servius and Bacchus", handed out by a man dressed as a Catholic priest, claiming that these two Catholic saints were actually homosexual lovers. "Catholic Theological Defense of Same-sex Marriage" pamphlet which states that there is "no moral right to declare marriage off limits to persons whom God has made gay" and that the Pope "is definitely wrong and he will be corrected some day by one of his successors." (Also handed out by the above mentioned "priest".) "Reading the Bible with New Eyes" - a pamphlet that portrays Jesus as having had a homosexual affair with Lazarus and Mary as a lesbian. It also describes the Book of Acts as "defining a lesbian and gay 'nation'". It also states that Jesus "was a functional, if not physical, eunuch." "Queer Spirituality" A booklet from a "church" describing how homosexuality is a spiritual experience that "opens us up to God." "Out and Proud - Coming out to your Parents" A how-to guide for kids to explain to their parents that they are now homosexuals. "Boston Gay & Lesbian Film / Video Festival" A pamphlet inviting the kids to a homosexual film festival, showing photos of (among other things) men in bed with each other and women kissing. "Tips for organizing on high school / college campuses on transgender issues" How to push cross-dressing and transgenderism at schools. Includes a section on "Transgender Students Use of Bathrooms and Locker Rooms." This Need Not Happen In Oregon! While a small, organized, rebellious, and intimidating group in Portland would like to see this happen, it CAN be prevented. In 2004, 240,000 Oregon Christians signed petitions to place this same agenda on the ballot. 1,028,000 Oregonians, by a margin of 57% to 43%, said "No" to anything other than marriage between a man and a woman only. After 69 state officials and one federal judge chose to ignore the will of the people, we are now faced with the opportunity to place the two morally and culturally destructive laws on the November ballot for Oregon voters to accept or reject. All that is needed are 82,759 valid signatures on each petition by July 3rd. But that is just the problem. The Oregon Supreme Court, by sitting on Initiative 145 and 146 for the next few weeks, can reduce the time we need to garner sufficient signatures. Pray that. . . College Students Embrace New Sexual Revolution on Campus
Harvard’s True Love Revolution Leads the Charge to Promote Abstinence Education

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The True Love Revolution, a new student group which promotes
abstinence education at Harvard University, has generated massive news coverage, letters
of support, and requests for information from college students across the country.

The story began in February when TLR members sent Valentines to all freshman girls at
Harvard which read, “Why wait? Because you’re worth it.”

Justin Murray and Sarah Kinsella, Harvard seniors and co-presidents of the True Love
Revolution (TLR), were surprised by national media attention the Valentine campaign
received and pleased with the outpouring of support for their message.

“After our Valentine’s Day Abstinence Awareness campaign and the subsequent media
attention, most people on campus (and many people across the country) know now that we
exist and that young adults do care about these issues,” said Kinsella.

Members now work to promote abstinence education at Harvard and help other students
interested in starting their own similar groups on college campuses nationwide.

“We’ve been talking to other college students who contacted us about starting their own
abstinence education groups on their campuses,” said Murray. “We’ve been contacted by
200-300 people. I spent my Spring Break responding to their requests for information.”

TLR’s web site now includes a link for students from other schools to join “The Global
Revolution - Beyond Harvard.”

“Although we have our share of critics, we have also received over a thousand supportive
emails and notes from people across the world.” said Kinsella.

Murray and Kinsella started The True Love Revolution in June of 2006 with the help of the
Leadership Institute’s Campus Leadership Program. The students wanted to open a
discussion on campus about the ethical, physical health, and emotional health issues that
accompany sexual relationships outside of marriage.

“We noticed that pretty much anything of importance on campus witnessed a vibrant,
two-sided debate” Murray said. “But political correctness had shut-down a similar
two-sided discussion of abstinence.”

Members of the group plan soon a new abstinence education campaign to highlight the
problems with the “hook-up culture” on campuses. Members will host a student dinner and
discussion event entitled “Living in a Hook-up Culture,” in conjunction with a
campus-wide poster campaign.

“We want to work with the university to include abstinence in the general discussion of
sexual health on campus and to include it as a real option for students,” Murray said.
“We wanted to get the other side of the debate represented.”

There are now more than 130 members on the True Love Revolution’s Facebook site. A recent
ice cream social sponsored by the group brought out nearly 45 students.

“Those students who already practiced abstinence are thrilled because they felt a
tremendous amount of peer pressure on campus to conform to popular ideas of sex,” said
Murray. “Many students who do not practice abstinence still thought our group brought a
positive contribution to the discussion on campus.”

Kinsella and Murray plan to continue promoting abstinence education on campus and helping
other students start their own abstinence groups at other schools. Additional information

The Leadership Institute’s Campus Leadership Program helps conservative students start
newspapers and organizations on college campuses. Between September 2004 and April 2007
the number of active CLP groups at colleges and universities grew from 216 to 1,028; a
476 percent increase. These groups fight for conservative principles on campuses in all
50 states and the District of Columbia.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The Alliance Defense Fund announced a new initiative Friday that will challenge the tactics of groups that use the Internal Revenue Service to intimidate churches and pastors into silence on important issues of the day.

"Pastors have a right to speak about biblical values from the pulpit without fear of punishment. No one should be able to use the government to intimidate pastors into giving up their constitutional rights," said ADF Senior Legal Counsel Erik Stanley. "The government can’t demand that a church give up its right to tax-exempt status simply because the pastor exercises his First Amendment rights in the pulpit. Groups like Americans United intentionally trigger IRS investigations that will silence churches through fear, intimidation, and disinformation."

The new initiative will equip, protect, and defend pastors who wish to exercise their First Amendment right to openly discuss the positions of political candidates and other moral and social issues from the pulpit. Participating pastors across the country will deliver a sermon along these lines in their own churches Sept. 28.

Prior to 1954, churches were free to evaluate the positions of political candidates on moral issues without fear of the Internal Revenue Service revoking their tax-exempt status. That year, then-Senator Lyndon Johnson amended the tax code to add the threat of IRS action against churches if their pastors mentioned the positions of specific candidates from the pulpit. Citing that rule, groups like AU have repeatedly threatened to report churches to the IRS if they speak out on such issues.

Many tax-exempt organizations are permitted to evaluate candidates’ positions based on the values important to those groups. Organizations which are tax-exempt but do not have the same speech restrictions the IRS places on churches include civic leagues; labor, agricultural, or horticultural associations; business leagues; chambers of commerce; real estate boards; boards of trade; professional football leagues; clubs organized for pleasure, recreation, and other nonprofit purposes; fraternal beneficiary societies; and cemeteries.

"The intimidation of churches by leftist groups using the IRS has grown to a point that ADF has no choice but to respond," said Stanley. "The number of threats being reported to ADF is growing because of the aggressive campaign to unlawfully silence the church. IRS rules don’t trump the Constitution, and the First Amendment certainly trumps the Johnson amendment."

May 8, 2008 Thanks to a major donor, my son and I flew to Washington D.C. yesterday for the annual Family Research Council's Pastors Briefing. Last year, I joined 300 pastors from around the U.S. who attended this conference to hear Senators and Congressman and well known Christian leaders assess what happened in the 2006 elections and the role of Evangelical Christians as citizens in America. This year, 800 pastors are in attendance. I will report back to you on this important two day conference. Obedience To Christ - In Response to a Nation in Prayer Oregon - Finishing What We Began May 5, 2008 Last week, the Nation's Christians came together in Prayer for America. As I traveled the State attending Prayer Breakfasts, speaking, and meeting with groups of Christians, I was moved and encouraged by the growing desire to see God's eternal rules of order and right respected once again in the public square, our schools, the courts, our legislature, and in public policy. A theme that enveloped all those discussions was the need for all serious Christians to be obedient to Christ in upholding marriage and morality as God ordained from the beginning, not shying away from these fundamental safeguards to adults and children alike, to satisfy the mindset of the secular left in Oregon, and America. JOHN MORGAN COMMEMORATES SEPTEMBER 11TH WITH SEAN HANNITY
ABC’s “The Next Best Thing” Finalist to Perform at Final Hannity’s Freedom Concert of 2007

Jackson, NJ – ABC Television’s “The Next Best Thing” finalist “The Definitive President George W. Bush” impersonator John Morgan will commemorate September 11th with FOX News Channel personalities Sean Hannity and Colonel Oliver North (USMC ret.) by performing at the final event of the 2007 Hannity’s Freedom Concert series, to be held at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ (presented by News/Talk 77-WABC). The event starts at 7 p.m. EST.

"Like many Americans, I was personally shaken to the core by the events of September 11, 2001,” Morgan says. “But since then, I've come to understand that no matter what America goes through, we will go through it together as one nation under God. This certainty brings strength and purpose to all of us as we honor the brave men and women who have defended our freedom. We owe them our very way of life. As such, I'm honored beyond words to be associated with the Freedom Alliance."

The Freedom Concert series, now in its sixth year, benefits the Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund, which awards college financial aid to children of U.S. military soldiers who have lost their lives in the service of their country. Morgan was chosen by Hannity and North to perform at all five of the 2007 Freedom Concerts. The Freedom Concerts also included performances by musical guests such as Lee Greenwood, Montgomery Gentry, LeAnn Rimes, Charlie Daniels and Michael W. Smith; and special appearances by Academy Award-winning actor Jon Voight, Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, Senator Fred Thompson, Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, CNN personality Brian Christie and Hillary Clinton impersonator Teresa Barnwell.

It was barely three years ago that John Morgan, an Orlando, Fla., native, received so many comments that he resembled the 43rd President that he began a second career impersonating the President, eventually leaving the security of his family’s appliance business to launch a full-time career in imitation and inspiration. Morgan has appeared before such corporate audiences as IBM, BellSouth, Bank of America and the NY & LA Automotive Shows and has been seen on such broadcast outlets as ABC’s “The View,” “The Tony Danza Show” and “Fox News.” He has also become a favorite with faith-based audiences through appearances at The International Christian Retail Show, The GMA Dove Awards, GMA Music Week and the 2007 Winter Jam Tour where he appeared before 270,000 people in 33 cities. Presidential Impersonator and "The Next Best Thing" 3rd Runner-Up Wows San Diego Audience

San Diego, CA (Aug 06, 2007) - "The Definitive President George W. Bush" impersonator John Morgan recently wowed the audience of Hannity's Freedom Concert on July 26, 2007, at the Coors Amphitheatre in San Diego, Calif., directly following Morgan's 3rd Runner-Up announcement on ABC-TV's "The Next Best Thing: Who's The Greatest Celebrity Impersonator?" on July 25th. This is the second time Morgan has been invited by FOX News Channel personalities Sean Hannity and Colonel Oliver North (USMC ret.) to participate in a 2007 Freedom Concert event.

The Freedom Concert series, now in its sixth year, benefits the Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund, which awards college financial aid to children of U.S. military soldiers who have lost their lives in the service of their country. The San Diego event, presented in conjunction with 760 KFMB Radio, featured top-notch performances by Lee Greenwood, Montgomery Gentry and Michael W. 'Being an imitator of President Bush is no big deal, but being a Christian is a very big deal.'

About eight years ago, John Morgan was setting up for a George W. Bush. campaign stop in Orlando, Fla., when a staffer tapped him on the shoulder and said, "Excuse me, has anyone ever told you, you look a lot like Dubya?"

"That was the first time I heard the phrase Dubya and the first time of many hundreds that I've been told how much I look like George W. Bush," Morgan said. "I had no idea it would lead to an international opportunity to present the world with the comedic side of our president."

Morgan took his show on the road four and a half years ago. He does Bush comedy for some of the world's largest corporations. He performs as "Singing Bush." He will visit Promise Keepers events this year, and he has a book in the works. He's even sneaked into the Democratic National Headquarters.

But, as Morgan told CitizenLink, the opportunity to share the Gospel is the most wonderful part of the job.

1. Have you had the opportunity to meet President Bush?

I got a chance to shake his hand in Orlando, and I said, "Mr. President, it is an honor to be your look-alike." He just looked at me and said, "Well, I feel sorry for ya."

2. What's the best part about your role as an impersonator?

The looks on people's faces, the dropped jaws and the surprises are so much fun and hilarious. But the doors that it opens to share the Gospel are the most wonderful part of this incredible opportunity.

Everything I do is family-friendly, good-natured, just fun. I (have) the opportunity to perform in front of Christian and faith-based audiences, which also opens the door for me to share my testimony — to share about the incredible calling that each of us, as believers, have, to imitate God. Ephesians 5:1 says, "Be imitators of God, as beloved children." Most of us go through our days not thinking about our calling as Christ's ambassadors. But that is what we are.

Being an imitator of President Bush is no big deal, but being a Christian is a very big deal.

3. What are some of the craziest moments from your time as George W. Bush?

It has been insane. Walking into the Democratic National Headquarters in the middle of the campaign in '04, sneaking right into the war room, standing up in the middle of the room and saying, "I'm here to check out the competition," and just watching them freak out.

Actually convincing Barbara Walters in the executive airport in Washington, D.C., that I was the president. Walking into and getting onto The Tony Danza Show — completely uninvited — and many other talk shows.

4. What's the first thing you would do, if you were president?

Drop down on my face and pray.

5. What would you say to Christians who have grown weary of politics?

We are agents of change in this world. The best news in the world is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The best way to change the world is by sharing that Gospel, one person at a time, with our neighbors. And of course, through effective policy change, we can create an atmosphere wherein the Gospel is more easily presented to folks.
