Oregon's domestic partnership law on hold
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - A federal judge on Friday placed on hold a state domestic partnership law that was set to take effect in Oregon on Jan. 1, pending a February hearing. The law would have given some spousal rights to gay couples. Opponents asked U.S. District Judge Michael W. Mosman to intercede after the Oregon secretary of state's office ruled in October that they had failed to collect enough valid signatures on a referendum to block the law. The Oregon measure covers benefits related to inheritance rights, child-rearing and custody, joint state tax filings, joint health, auto and homeowners insurance policies, visitation rights at hospitals and others. It does not affect federal benefits for married couples, including Social Security and joint filing of federal tax returns. After the legislature approved the domestic partnership law this year, gay rights opponents launched an effort to collect enough signatures to suspend the law and place it on the November 2008 ballot for a statewide vote. But state elections officials said this fall that the effort fell 116 valid signatures short of the 55,179 needed to suspend the law. In court Friday, Austin Nimocks, a lawyer for Alliance Defense Fund, representing the anti gay rights group, said the state's review process was flawed, violating the rights of citizens who had signed petitions. "It's a fundamental right to participate in democracy," Nimocks said. Mosman said that rights of voters may indeed have been violated if their signatures were unfairly disqualified, and thus he'd grant the temporary stay. Margaret Olney, attorney for Basic Rights Oregon, the state's largest gay rights group, said the judge "misunderstood the referendum process in a number of ways. " "The idea that there is some individual vested right when you sign your name is wrong," Olney said. "It's equating a signature to a vote." Another Oregon law scheduled to take effect Jan. 1 that outlaws discrimination based on sexual orientation was not challenged in this case and will stand. In 2004, about 3,000 same-sex couples were granted marriage licenses in Multnomah County, the largest county in Oregon. But later that year, Oregon voters approved a constitutional ban on gay marriage. The Oregon Supreme Court nullified the 3,000 licenses as unconstitutional in 2005. Eight other states have approved spousal rights in some form for same-sex couples - Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Maine, California, Washington and Hawaii. Massachusetts is the only state that allows gay couples to marry. Judge Mosman said he wanted a speedy resolution in the case, saying that would be more "to the public's advantage than to be in a state of limbo."

Allowing Pro-Abortion & Pro-Homosexual Speakers In His Pulpit
(JHReport) A nationally recognized Christian activist has learned firsthand that there is a steep price to pay for speaking out against the moral corruption of one of America's most powerful Protestant ministers. Despite the high cost to himself personally, James Hartline has been willing to expose, what he says, is a disturbing trend of theological and moral compromise coming from the pulpit of Rick Warren, pastor of the 20,000-member Saddleback Church.
Included in Hartline's laundry list of complaints against Pastor Warren is the recent speaking engagement of pro-gay and pro-abortion Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton at Saddleback Church. Hillary Clinton's invitation from Warren to speak at his church followed a speech by Clinton before the radical gay activist group The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) where she told the HRC "she wants a partnership with gays if elected president ."
Hartline, who publishes a number of Christian news websites, says that he does not take any pleasure in speaking out against Warren. He simply does not want his fellow Christian believers to be taken advantage of by Saddleback Pastor Rick Warren's unbiblical activism. It has been painful for Hartline to stand up to Rick Warren -- In the process of reporting on Warren's moral compromises in the pulpit, Hartline has had a number of well-known Christian friends turn on him and abandon support for his ministry .
Several months ago, the San Diego-based Christian activist could tell that something was just not right in his relationship with two close friends who work in the Christian media. Warm and welcoming conversations had abruptly turned into brief, cold and uncaring responses to his telephone calls and emails. For Hartline, he had a hard time understanding how close friends could so quickly become "spiritually schizophrenic." Eventually, he began to see a pattern evolve. What James Hartline was about to learn in the midst of this trying time would cause him to understand how treacherous the religious waters in America have become in the 21st century: "Taking on Saddleback Pastor Rick Warren is the religious equivalent of taking on a mob boss in the Italian Mafia," says Hartline.
James Hartline concluded that all of these newly-found troubles with his friends began when he signed a well-publicized ministry coalition letter in December of 2006. The ministry coalition letter that Hartline is referring to is a document he signed along with some of America's top evangelical leaders. The letter was published in newspapers and websites throughout American on December 1, 2006. The document was titled: "Pro-Family Coalition Issues 'World AIDS Day' Appeal to Rick Warren to Address Homosexuality and 'Gay' Promiscuity in Effort to Stop Pandemic."
Among the many things that the coalition saw happening with Pastor Warren's AIDS Summit event that they had outlined in the document was his inviting of pro-abortion and pro-homosexual activists to speak at Saddleback Church. Peter LaBarbera, a leading figure in America's evangelical pro-family movement, called on Warren to address the leading cause of HIV transmission in the United States: gay promiscuity in gay sex clubs. LaBarbera pointed out in the AIDS Truth Coalition press release that Pastor Warren had invited Mark Dybul, a practicing homosexual, to speak at Saddleback Church.
The evangelical document was a major embarrassment for Rick Warren. The document, issued as a press release, confronted Warren for allowing pro-abortion Democratic presidential candidate Barak Obama to speak at Saddleback Church during Warren's AIDS Summit. The document pressed Pastor Warren to speak out against homosexual promiscuity, a leading cause of AIDS -- something members of the AIDS Truth Coalition did not see Rick Warren mention during his AIDS Summit at Saddleback in 2006.
James Hartline was not the only prominent figure to speak out against Rick Warren for allowing Barak Obama to speak in his church. Troy Newman, president of Operation Rescue, called on Warren to rescind his invitation to Obama due to the liberal Democrat's rabid support for the murderous practice of partial birth abortion. Partial birth abortion is a procedure that abortion doctors use to bring unborn babies out of the birth canal except for the infant's head. The baby's skull is then crushed while still lodged in the mother's womb, thus executing the infant. Barak Obama has voted repeatedly to support this procedure. Pro-life activists like James Hartline and Troy Newman were especially outraged that Rick Warren booked Obama to speak at Saddleback Church during the 2006 AIDS Summit.
Because Hartline, a former homosexual, has been fighting AIDS for ten years, his statements in the coalition letter against Rick Warren brought extra attention to Warren's immoral compromises during Saddleback's AIDS Day Summit. Hartline's highly publicized comments in the letter stated:
"While Pastor Rick Warren of Saddleback Church is doing a noble service for the people of Africa by holding a global summit on AIDS, I must ponder in my mind where pastors like Rick Warren were those many years when I was struggling to get out of homosexuality. For thirty years, I struggled with homosexuality and it was not until I was finally infected with AIDS at a homosexual bathhouse in San Diego, California that the physical consequences of that sin finally began to lead me away from that destructive lifestyle.
"Like me, hundreds of thousands of young men have been infected in the death chambers of the gay bathhouses in California and across America. Sadly, most of them are now dead from the HIV that they caught in these establishments. … It is noble that Rick Warren cares so much for the Africans living 10,000 miles away from his church who are infected with AIDS. It is tragic, though, that he and others like him have not spoken out forcefully against the holocaust of homosexuality and the dozens of bathhouses in California where so many men are getting sick and dying. Not to mention the millions of families that are forced to pay for the financial costs of caring for all of those sick and dying from homosexuality and the gay bathhouses where they were infected with AIDS."
According to published reports, Saddleback Church began to evict members from their congregation when these members confronted Rick Warren for his inviting pro-abortion advocate Barak Obama to speak from the pulpit of Saddleback Church. Shortly after these confrontations began to become public and after the AIDS Truth Coalition press release was issued, KBRT radio personality Paul McGuire invited Warren's wife Kay onto his program. For an hour on that program, McGuire allowed Kay Warren to attack and degrade the many Christians who had questioned her husband's ministry tactics and practices. McGuire's program went from being a Christian talk show to a manipulative platform for Rick and Kay Warren's emergent church propaganda. Paul McGuire's website now prominently features a supportive photograph of Rick Warren. Additionally, McGuire has repeatedly featured sound bites by Kay Warren in his program's advertisements.
Shortly after the ministry coalition letter against Rick Warren was published throughout America, Hartline received a disturbing email from the sales manager of KBRT, the Christian radio station in Southern California that is home to the Paul McGuire Show. What was disturbing about the email from Sarah Davis, were her attempts to manipulate Hartline into not sending out information which reflected negatively on Rick Warren. Sarah Davis' email had been preceded by an email from Hartline where he had sought to inform the staff of KBRT about Rick Warren allowing a homosexual activist to speak at his church. Hartline's email to Paul McGuire and the KBRT staff stated:
Dear Paul (McGuire):
"Rick Warren is having a homosexual US AIDS "ambassador" (appointed by Pres. Bush), who has a homosexual lover, speak at his church today. His name is Mark Dybul. The pulpit is supposed to be holy, no matter what the reason. In Christianity, the ends cannot justify the means." James Hartline.
KBRT sales manager Sarah Davis wrote an email back to Hartline in response which read:
"I have to ask you to pray about the below letter before you send it out. It is not my job to defend Rick Warren and that is not my total purpose in writing you. Yet I want you to ask yourself if what you are about to put out to the masses is the whole truth. I have personally heard, with my own ears, Rick Warren speak out against homosexuality on national television just last Sunday on a Fox News special. The church and Rick personally do not take any of those issues lightly nor do they overlook them. The media will choose to publish what it wants and unfortunately that's the picture that stays in our mind."

Not contemplating the idea that there was something sinister behind the email written by KBRT employee Sarah Davis, James Hartline just assumed that his relationship with KBRT radio personality Paul McGuire was still the way it has always been, cordial and warm. That was an assumption which James Hartline was about to learn was a big mistake.
Just three months prior to the AIDS Truth Coalition document that Hartline signed onto, Paul McGuire had sent an email to James reminding him of their close friendship. McGuire's August 21, 2006 email to Hartline said:
James,
"You are a good friend and often have profound things to say. Please do not be so easily offended. My producer/engineer has to sift through many calls at once to keep the show moving. I need you to be a little more patient and flexible. You know I believe in your ministry and try to support you on the air."
I remain your friend in Christ, Paul McGuire .
In early 2004, Paul McGuire had invited James Hartline to appear on his radio program. That interview lasted for 90 minutes and launched a three-year friendship between McGuire and Hartline. Over the three years, Hartline had repeatedly called McGuire's show and was always immediately put on the air to talk about issues related to the culture war, spiritual battles and San Diego politics.
Fast forward to September, 2007, several months after Hartline had signed the AIDS Truth Coalition letter against Rick Warren
In the battle to stop the San Diego City Council from issuing a legal brief in support of same-sex marriage, Hartline contacted Paul McGuire to ask if he could come on the air to get Christians to turn out for the city council hearing. McGuire's reply to Hartline turned out to be one of the nastiest emails that Hartline had ever received in his many years of ministry.
Hartline's email to Paul McGuire read:
Paul: We really need your help in getting everyone to turn out at the San Diego City Council on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007. I have just found out that the gay and lesbian center is planning to turn out a large group of their "couples" to influence the council on the vote to issue the gay marriage supporting legal brief. They want to give the appearance of "happy" married homosexual and lesbian couples before the media and city council.
The following is Paul McGuire's response to Hartline who asked McGuire to announce on the air the need for people to come to the San Diego City Council to fight the same-sex marriage legal brief :
James,
"I don't mind helping your cause on a very selective basis. However, San Diego is a small part of our audience, and management is not thrilled with doing small San Diego issues because the larger audience is not interested.
Also, I am not blaming you, but the last time we had you on there was a tiny turn out at the Mayor thing. This is not good for our station, because it reflects on us negatively.
Essentially, these events are tiny events ( athough they are important ), but I cannot justify to management giving time to small local events where a handful of people show up like the Mayor thing, That was not planned and it discredits our station.
A word of personal advice, you are not going to succeed at your goals until you begin to network with and build alliances with the big churches in your area. That requires diplomacy and networking. In order for you to win you are going to have to get these people on your side. In other words you are going to have to build alliances.
Also, please do not be offended but we have completely changed our caller policy which means we want new callers as much as possible who have something new to say. When you call up and essentially give the same message in slightly different forms people tune out. We want a fresh rotation of callers, and not the same callers who say basically the same thing."

Paul McGuire's degrading response of calling the Christians of San Diego and their battle against same-sex marriage a "tiny" thing reveals a deceitful side to McGuire that most of his listeners will be shocked to hear about. The idea that McGuire conveys that his Christian radio station's management is not supportive of the horrific battle San Diegans are facing against the homosexual movement is simply reprehensible. Particularly, since it has been the San Diego listerners which have built up a large portion of KBRT's supporting community base. McGuire's instruction to Hartline to place his focus on "building" large numbers through "networking" smacks of Saddleback Church Rick Warren's propaganda.
Sadly, the betrayal of James Hartline by Paul McGuire was not the end of the matter. It was to get much worse for Hartline. Within a few days of the McGuire email, one of Hartline's closest friends was also about to dump him as well.
For the past several years, James Lambert had become one of James Hartline's closest friends. Lambert joined Hartline to form California Christian News, the media division of Hartline's growing ministry, The Hillcrest Mission. On multiple occasions Hartline had even given up writing articles on highly publicized issues because Lambert had asked to have the rights on the articles so that he could have his name attached to the headline.
One of the things that James Lambert had told Hartline he had wanted to do for many years was to get Paul McGuire on his televison program Night Lights. Lambert succeeded. Paul McGuire is now promptly featured on James Lambert's scheduled line-up of guests on Night Lights . Shortly after James Lambert returned from interviewing Paul McGuire at his KBRT radio station, he sent a disturbing email to James Hartline. Lambert was ending all association with James Hartline's ministry after four years of friendship.
Here is what James Lambert's email to James Hartline read:
"Is there anyway you can take me off the 'staff' section of your website. I am trying to write for some independent sites like TownHall and they like for me to write exclusively for them or their affiliates ( at AFA)."
A second email from Lambert was sent to Hartline on October 16, 2007 which read:
"unsubscribe and pls take me off your website thank you."
Shortly after Lambert had written James Hartline where he stated that he could only write for the websites affiliated with AFA (American Family Association), he authored a new editorial for a local San Diego website that has no ties to AFA. The website, Southern California Christian News, featured an editorial specifically written by Lambert on Nov. 4, 2007. Sadly, Lambert had lied to his old ministry partner. James Lambert had placed more importantce on getting that interview with Paul McGuire and submitting to McGuire's "Purpose Driven" betrayal than he did for doing the right thing and honoring his commitment to James Hartline.
Since the unfolding of the degrading email that James Hartline received from Paul McGuire, KBRT sales manager Sarah Davis issued a formal apologize to Hartline on behalf of the KBRT staff. Davis explained to Hartline that Paul McGuire had betrayed the station's policy and that he did not speak for KBRT when he issued his unethical email to James.
It is hard for James Hartline to believe that Christians who earn incomes off of their Christianity, and claim to be representing God to the Christian community, would then turn out to be so loyal to someone like Rick Warren. There is no doubt that Rick Warren is compromising his alledged loyalty to Biblical Christianity. Warren has hosted events that feature politicians who approve of the heinous act of partial birth abortion. Warren has hosted politicians who support homosexuality and he has allowed them to speak from his pulpit. And the idea that KBRT radio personality Paul McGuire honors Rick Warren while condemning those who criticize Warren places McGuire in the lower echolons of cultural vulgarity.

Endorsing Pro-Gay Candidates While Organization Sells Itself As
Pro-Family Conservative Advocates
(JHReport) California Governor Arnold Schwarznegger's recent signature on California Senate Bill 777 (SB777) is one of the single greatest attacks on children in modern American history. According to World Net Daily, SB777 effectively bans the terms "mom" and "dad" as well as "husband" and "wife" from being used in California's public schools. By signing the bill, Schwarzenegger has ordered all of California's public schools to allow boys to use the girl's restrooms if they so choose. Randy Thomasson, president of Campaign for Children and Families, tells World Net Daily that children as young as five years-old will be mentally molested in school classrooms as a result of SB777.
SB777 is a dream come true for radicalized homosexual activists and a nightmare for parents who do not want their young children to be sexually indoctrinated by teachers who are acting on behalf of their anti-family socialist partners. According to the bill, all students from K thru 12th grade will be taught that people who engage in transsexuality, anal intercourse and lesbianism are positive role models in society. SB777 then goes on to ban any discussions in the classroom where these fetish groups are viewed negatively. In other words, the fact that nearly 85% of all AIDS cases in the United States are the result of men who engage in sodomy will not be told to students because it reflects negatively on male homosexuals.
There is no doubt that SB777 is one of the biggest assaults on parental rights in American history. While many will be blaming radical gay activists and Governor Schwarzenegger for the passage of SB777, they are not the only culprits in this catastrophic attack on California's parents and their children. Perhaps, the more devious villains in this attack on parental rights and family values are actually some of the loudest voices who are now crying out against SB777. Christian Conservative voters in California are about to find out that some prominent conservative leaders are actually helping pro-homosexual candidates to get elected to public office. Indeed there are wolves among the sheep!

A James Hartline Report investigation has uncovered revelations that a conservative "pro-family" group in California is leading the charge to repeal SB777 at the same time that the group has close ties to elected officials who are helping to elect pro-gay candidates to public office in the state. These revelations indicate that certain conservatives in California are covertly promoting gay-friendly candidates for public office and, in turn, helping to foster the radical redefining of what family means in the state. Using this tactic, these individuals are greatly contributing to the anti-family crisis that is wreaking havoc on California families. This conservative-created crisis allows leaders of certain pro-family groups to "come to the rescue". These pseudo-heroes then make names for themselves among churchgoers and bring in large sums of money for their "pro-family" groups. It is one of the nastiest and most deceptive games being played in California's Culture War.
The conservative family group at the center of this growing scandal is Capitol Resource Institute. What you are about to read is more than just a tale of hypocrisy. It is also a revealing expose on how some "pro-family" groups are actually helping to create the current social conflict between conservatives and the homosexual movement. By constantly keeping this conflict alive, groups like Capitol Resource Institute will always have an opportunity to play the "hero" in the battle and to bring in large sums of money to fight the battles they are, in part, helping to create.
Capitol Resource Institute is the leading proponent for repealing SB777. Under the direction of Karen England, the organization has presented itself as a friend to millions of conservative churchgoers in California. Is Karen England and Capitol Resource Institute really a friend to the millions of Christian Conservative voters in the Golden State? Evidence uncovered by the James Hartline Report indicates that Capitol Resource Institute may not be a friend to any Christian in California. In fact, Karen England, the self-appointed public mouthpiece for repealing SB777, is the leader of an organization with close ties to politicians who are actually helping to spread the homosexual movement.
In the process of playing this damnable game of betrayal, Capitol Resource Institute is raking in hundreds of thousands of dollars each year from sympathetic pro-family donors. According to its most recently published IRS filing, Capitol Resource Institute pulled in over $364,000 during the 2005-2006 fiscal year. The really dirty deeds being done by groups like Capitol Resource Institute stems from their ability to feed off of anti-family crises like SB777. Every year it seems that an attack on California's family values occurs right around election time. Each time one of these attacks is launched, Karen England and her Capitol Resource Institute appear in the media to play "the hero come to rescue families from homosexual activists."
Without a moral crisis like SB777 there would be no need for a Karen England and her Capitol Resource Institute. It is important to note that Karen England also serves as a vice-president on the board of directors of the California Republican Assembly (CRA), a group that lays claim to being the "conscience" of the state's Republican Party. Being involved with CRA means Karen England has a vested interest in the success of conservative politicians and making sure that voters turn out at the polls to support those same politicians. In recent years, the Republican Party has used crisis issues like the Mt. Soledad Cross, parental notification laws and gay marriage to motivate Republican voters to go to the polls and, indirectly, support specific candidates. Placing a repeal of SB777 on the 2008 ballot will be a major tool used by Karen England to lure voters to the polls.
The dirty deed of betraying Christian voters by advisory board members of Karen England's Capitol Resource Institute is really, really dirty. Take for example the dirty deeds being done by two members of Capitol Resource Institute Advisory Board of Directors: California State Senators Tom McClintock and Mark Wyland. In recent times, both McClintock and Wyland have endorsed and promoted candidates who are either homosexual or strong advocates for the promotion of homosexuality in the political arena. Nowhere are the dirty and hypocritical deeds of McClintock and Wyland being felt more than in San Diego, California.
San Diegans are currently suffering a serious assault against their families by both Democrat and Republican politicians. Just a few months ago, Republican Mayor Jerry Sanders betrayed the San Diego voters who elected him by signing a city council-approved legal brief in support of same-sex marriages. San Diego Councilman Jim Madaffer, another Republican, also dumped his previous campaign pledges in support of traditional values to join homosexual Democrats in support of the gay marriage legal brief. Added to the disasterous anti-family attacks that are being generated from the San Diego City Council is perhaps the worse assault of all: Capitol Resource Institute Advisory Boardmember Senator Tom McClintock's push to get a homosexual activist elected to the San Diego City Council in 2008.
Carl DeMaio, a carpetbagger candidate for the San Diego City Council, announced to the world in an April 2007 edition of San Diego Magazine that he was involved in homosexuality. DeMaio went on to disrespect the majority of churchgoers in San Diego in that interview by saying he didn't think voters would consider the issue of his homosexuality to be a very important one. It can be assumed that DeMaio would have also supported the same-sex marriage legal brief had he already been elected to the San Diego City Council. Perhaps, the most troubling aspect to homosexual activist Carl DeMaio's candidacy: Capitol Resource Institute Advisory Boardmember Senator Tom McClintock has endorsed DeMaio for the city council seat!
Carl DeMaio: as a private individual, can I live with the public scrutiny? Am I prepared to have the public shine a light on my personal life?
TB: Do you have some particular issue there?
Carl DeMaio: The fact that I’m gay, I suppose. But at the end of the day, I don’t think it’s very relevant when you consider all the things that are really important to voters. We have the city’s greatest financial crisis ever. We have city services being cut in our neighborhoods. Our leaders breaking the public trust by violating the law.
TB: You wouldn’t be our first gay councilmember.
CD: True. And even though it may be uncomfortable for me——coming out, being honest with the people——I think that’s what people want. It certainly hasn’t been relevant in the past five years, as we’ve sought to bring the city’s problems to public light, although some of the folks we were shining a light on did put pressure on us in regard to my personal life——in an effort to get us to back off. We didn’t.
After DeMaio had revealed his disturbing involvement in homosexuality to the conservative voters of San Diego, he and two other strong advocates for the homosexual movement, Tony Freeman and Tom Hebrank, were seen together in a photograph in transvestite activist Nicole Murray Ramirez's May 17, 2007 column in the Gay and Lesbian Times. One month later, Capitol Resource Institute Advisory Boardmember Senator Tom McClintock endorsed homosexual activist Carl DeMaio for the San Diego City Council.

In 2005, Senator Mary Wyland, another Capitol Resource Institute Advisory Board of Directors member, was at the forefront of pushing for the election of Steve Francis for mayor in San Diego. Francis, one of San Diego's most rabid pro-gay Republicans, appeared at a mayoral forum at the San Diego Gay and Lesbian Center where he said that he supported gay civil unions. Additionally, Francis and his wife both have extensive ties to the homosexual community. Yet, during the 2005 mayoral race there was Mark Wyland with one hand tied to Karen England's Capitol Resource Institute and his other hand tied to the campaign of pro-homosexual Republican Steve Francis.
If these Republican state senators were serious about stopping the homosexual movement in California they could have done it years ago. They could have put pressure on Schwarzenegger to veto SB777. Instead, Senator McClintock was busy appearing on the Roger Hedgecock show to announce his endorsement of homosexual activist Carl DeMaio for the San Diego City Council. Instead, Senator Mark Wyland was busy being part of the recent fundraising host committee in San Diego for another pro-homosexual politician: Mitt Romney.
If Karen Englund and her Capitol Resource Institute were really serious about stopping the homosexual movement in California then she wouldn't have advisors who are endorsing candidates like homosexual activist Carl DeMaio for the San Diego City Council or pro-gay civil unions advocate Steve Francis to become mayor of San Diego.
The Capitol Resource Insitute (CRI) states on its website that it has been "supporting and defending California families since 1987". Really? How does Senator Tom McClintock's endorsement of homosexual activist Carl DeMaio fit into Karen England's defense of families? How does Senator Mark Wyland's endorsement of Steve Francis who supports embryonic stem cell research and gay civil unions fit into Karen England's support of California families?
If he is elected in 2008, there is no doubt that homosexual activist Carl DeMaio will be embracing such anti-family events as the San Diego Gay Pride Festival when it comes up for a vote on the San Diego City Council docket. DeMaio's current campaign endorsement list includes a number of homosexual politicians and activists: Mike German, Frank Tierney, Thomas Hebrank, Bob Lehman, and Log Cabin Republican leader Patrick Sammon. Additionally, pro-homosexual Republicans Phil Thalheimer and Tricia Hunter endorsing DeMaio demonstrates that DeMaio is prepared to push for an extremely dark future for Christian values if elected to the San Diego City Council.
Senator Tom McClintock, in issuing an endorsement for homosexual activist Carl DeMaio for the San Diego City Council, is helping to propel the homosexual movement in California. And by having such advisors as Tom McClintock and Mark Wyland, there is no doubt that Karen England and her Capitol Resource Institute are nothing more than opportunists who are more interested in promoting their organization to churchgoers than actually protecting churchgoers and their families.

· The Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act passed the House on a vote of 405-2! Concerned Women for America (CWA) played a pivotal role in the passage this week of historic legislation to end modern-day slavery. The bill contains all the provisions that Dr. Janice Shaw Crouse, Director and Senior Fellow of CWA's Beverly LaHaye Institute, and Shari Rendall, CWA's Director of Legislation and Public Policy, have advocated over the past several months for the reauthorization of H.R. 3887. This bill represents the work of a unique left-right, bipartisan coalition working with Congressional leadership to craft a bill to rescue millions of enslaved victims and allow the effective prosecution of the criminal networks that are behind this crime that is ranked #2 in international crimes. The bill now goes to the Senate for debate, and the CWA team will be working to ensure passage in that body as well.
· Dr. Crouse was interviewed on numerous radio stations regarding the new CDC report that claims that teen births have increased. Dr. Crouse's analysis of the details of the report reveals really good news — the birth rates dropped among 10-17-year-olds. The CDC numbers were distorted by the increase in birth rates among 18- and 19-year-olds. Crouse argues that abstinence programs need to be fully funded so that the programs targeting the 10-17-year-olds can continue to produce such good results. She regrets the fact that older teens are not getting the abstinence message.
· This week, Americans for Truth held a press conference at the National Press Club and invited Matt Barber, Policy Director for Cultural Issues, to join in to discuss the unlawful and unimaginable acts that took place at this year's Folsom Street Fair held in San Francisco. Matt Barber explained that "during San Francisco's Folsom Street Fair, total nudity and the most unimaginable and vile acts of debauchery are commonplace. These acts are performed in public, which is illegal, and are even done in the presence of children. Additionally, anti-Christian bigotry is a central part of the event's theme." Researchers: We Can Make Embryonic Stem Cells Without Destroying Life

Madison, WI (LifeNews.com) -- Two teams of scientists say they have devised a new process that allows for the creation of embryonic stem cells without the destruction of human life. The reports could be good news for pro-life groups who oppose the research because days-old unborn children are normally killed for their cells. Stem cell pioneers in Wisconsin and Japan released studies in the medical journals Science and Cell that claim to have found a way -- called direct reprogramming -- to make adult stem cells revert to their embryonic form.
The studies confirm that human skin cells (fibroblasts) can be used to make pluripotent stem cells sharing essentially all the features of human embryonic stem cells.
Dr. Shinya Yamanaka of Kyoto University and his team published the Cell paper while James Thomson of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, who discovered embryonic stem cells, published the Science paper.
Yamanaka previously reported, in 2006, turning mouse cells into semi-embryonic ones and then, earlier this year, he said he had produced cells that were almost indistinguishable from embryonic ones.
Both teams moved on from animal cells and Yamanaka's was able to convert the skin cells from a 36-year-old woman into embryonic ones while Thomson's team worked with cells from a newborn baby.
The technique involves the introduction of 4 genes into the skin cells, thereby "reprogramming" them to a less specialized (pluripotent) state.
The newly-produced embryonic stem cells are known as "iPS" cells.
The good news about the process is that it can be replicated easily, Thomson told AP. That could mean labs across the world could produce embryonic stem cells without destroying human life.
"People didn't know it would be this easy," Thomson said. "Thousands of labs in the United States can do this, basically tomorrow."
The new technique isn't without problems as the researchers must disrupt the DNA of the skin cells to begin the process of reverting to embryonic form. This has the potential of causing cancer in the cells.
As a result, the cells may not be able to be used for medical transplants for patients suffering from diseases such as diabetes or Parkinson's.
“As long as we use those viruses, I don’t think we can say that the [reprogrammed] cells are as safe as embryonic stem cells,” said Dr. Yamanaka.

On Hate Crimes, No Love Lost
After weeks of political wrangling, the Senate finally cried uncle on an unpopular plan to attach "hate crimes" legislation to the Defense Authorization bill. By pulling the proposal before members could even vote on it, Democrats demonstrated just how little real support the legislation enjoyed--even among the party faithful. With Congress a month out from primary season and our troops in desperate need of resources, one Democratic aide told reporters that "hate crimes" had nowhere near the backing it needed to pass. "We're about 40 votes short, not four or six," he said. "Fed up" with the sheer volume of emails they received (which is how one office described your overwhelming response to FRC's alert), the leadership made a wise decision to drop the provision. Had they not, it would have likely caused serious PR problems--not only for them but for a number of their Democratic colleagues running in the presidential primaries next month. For our military, however, the damage may have already been done. The months of delay may not have affected Congress, which operates within the safety and comfort our troops provide, but it has certainly affected the ability of our brave men and women to do their jobs. This should be an embarrassment to the majority. We congratulate Senator Mitch McConnell (Ky.) and Reps. Roy Blunt (Mo.) and John Boehner (Ohio), who were instrumental in the provision's defeat--as were those of you who took the time to make your opinions known. Together, we continue to make a major difference!

Sen. Kennedy's hate crime amendment, approved by the U.S. House and Senate, was stripped from the National Defense Appropriations Act, H.R. 1585, midday Thursday. Congressional Quarterly reports that support for the arms/hate bill bureau had so eroded in the House that Democrats were forty votes short of passage.
This great victory confirms that massive last-minute opposition from the evangelical and far right may well have powerfully helped defeat it. Sens. Kennedy and Smith may attempt to revive it as stand-alone legislation after the first of the year. But its rejection by Conference greatly increases the likelihood that we can defeat it again - if lovers of freedom continue to protest loudly.

Throughout his presidency, the Science Intelligentsia has castigated President Bush for placing limits on the federal funding of embryonic-stem-cell research (ESCR). Acting as if he had a banned ESCR, which of course he hadn't, "the scientists" and their camp followers in the media and on Capital Hill accused the president of withholding cures from the ill in order to impose his religious beliefs on a reluctant public. Little noted in all of the caterwauling, was that ESCR and human-cloning research (SCNT) have been funded bounteously — to the tune of nearly $2 billion. Not only has the National Institutes of Health put more than $150 million in recent years into human ESCR (about $40 annually), but according to a recent report put out by the Rockefeller Institute, to date about $1.7 billion has poured into ESCR and SCNT from philanthropic sources — and this doesn't include the hundreds of millions granted annually by the states for cloning and ESCR experiments. So what's really going on here? Yes, the president's policies have forced some research centers to set up separate labs for research on Bush-approved- and non-approved, stem-cell-research lines. But what really got under "the scientists" skin was the clarion moral message sent by the president: It is wrong to treat nascent human life as a mere natural resource to be sown, reaped, and consumed. The controversial science has never been able to overcome immune system rejection issues that don't inhibit the use of adult stem cells. Reprogramming an individual's own cells to mimic stem cells provides a way to create individually tailored transplant tissue unlikely to be rejected by that person's immune system. "These cells should be perfectly matched with the patient, so the immune system should not attack it. Lawmakers Still Want Destructive Embryonic Stem Cell Research Funding
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Though two teams of scientists have shown that human life need not be destroyed to obtain embryonic stem cells for research, Congressional lawmakers are not giving up on their fight to force taxpayers to fund it. And the scientists involved in the new research say they shouldn't give up. "It's terribly wrong for any politician to be trying to pick and choose one type of ethical research over another," Rep. Diana DeGette, a key sponsor of past funding bills, told AP. "That issue isn't going away." Senator Tom Harkin of Iowa, a leading sponsor of measures there, agreed. "Scientists may yet find that embryonic stem cells are more powerful," he said. It doesn't seem to occur to Matthews and his colleagues in the media that it is important to the American people what a candidate for high office believes about the value of life, at any stage, about marriage, whether it is eternally designed or to be temporally reconfigured, about morality, character, faith, and where his or her values come from. Why? Because it affects his view of public policy, and what is best for the nation. Should we as a nation just live in isolation to enjoy our gadgets or should we care about what happens to people in other parts of the world, or next door for that matter? And why are these important to us? The polls and surveys continue to show that we are a religious people. A high percentage say they believe in God, and some do far more than others. To some it is a simple matter of mental assent, while to others, knowing the God of the universe is the life blood and joy of their lives, their M.O. for caring and service. And when you consider that the world continues to be upside down, that wars and rumors of wars abound, that the turmoil in the Middle East mirrors what was written two and three thousand years ago, that what government does, affects their families, their hopes and dreams - in their quiet private moments, people wonder what is happening and what is going to happen . . . to them, their families, the nation, and the world. And the question about a 'religious test' in the Constitution? Matthews, like his colleagues, exhibits his abysmal ignorance of the Constitution itself. Our Founders came from Colonies that were all denominationally based and did not want a Federal Government that favored one denomination over another. They wanted to avoid a requirement that a person running for office had to be of a particular denomination. Current questions about what the candidates believe about Jesus or the Bible, has nothing to do with this. John Kennedy answered that question decades ago. Seeing is Believing Matthews and his secular colleagues don't get it. They simply don't have a clue when it comes to understanding the role of faith in American life and how important it is to the American people to know and understand the internal make up and world view of those who purport to be 'qualified' to lead us as a people. And how can they? The only way he and his colleagues will come to understand is to have an encounter with the living God. As Jesus said to Nicodemus, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." John 3:3

ADF Files Lawsuit to Restore Marriage Between a Man & Woman Only in Oregon

Voters who signed referendum to repeal Legislature's civil union bill go to court over their wrongfully rejected signatures PORTLAND, Ore. - Attorneys with the Alliance Defense Fund filed a lawsuit Monday in federal court against the Oregon Secretary of State and several county clerks after those offices wrongfully invalidated voters' signatures on a citizen referendum. If sustained, the referendum would place onto the November 2008 ballot an option for voters to repeal the state legislature's domestic partnership bill. "Our country is founded on the basic principle of government of the people, by the people, and for the people. It is un-American that Oregon citizens are being denied the right to have their vote count in an important referendum," said ADF Senior Legal Counsel, Austin R. Nimocks. "The county clerks must fulfill their duty, which is to make sure that every citizen's legitimately submitted signature counts," Nimocks added. "The right to exercise one's voice in the democratic process is a crucial one, and state and county officials must not infringe upon that right." ADF attorneys filed a lawsuit on behalf of several Oregonians whose signatures were invalidated by clerks' offices in 12 different counties. Many of the citizens sought, in person, to have their signatures revalidated since no legitimate reason existed to reject their signatures, but the clerks refused. Signatures were improperly invalidated for various reasons, including determinations that signatures did not match their corresponding voter registration cards, though they did. Other signatures were excluded for voters allegedly not being registered, though they were. Another signer's signature was excluded because the clerk considered the signature "illegible," though it could be read. None of the 254 signers who had their signatures excluded by clerks were ever contacted about the matter. "In Oregon elections, where most citizens vote by mail, voters are routinely contacted about missing, old, or non-matching signatures, all in an effort to give the voter every chance to make sure that their vote counts," Nimocks explained. "Yet, when it came to Referendum 303, clerks were unconcerned about ensuring that every vote counted and contacted no one. The law allows them to contact the signers, but they refused." Though the number of signatures for the referendum submitted to the office exceeded the required number by more than 6,000, the Secretary of State publicly announced on Oct. 8 that there were not enough signatures to sustain the referendum. On Oct. 26, when the final results were certified by the Secretary of State, Referendum 303 was only five signatures shy of gaining access to the ballot. Judge OKs crosses as trooper memorials

A federal judge has ruled that some thirteen 12-foot crosses memorializing fallen Utah Highway Patrol troopers convey a secular, nonreligious meaning and do not violate the U.S . Constitution.
In a win for the Utah Highway Patrol Association against the group American Atheists Inc., U.S. District Judge David Sam held Tuesday that the memorial crosses, found along various highways throughout the state, do not represent a government endorsement of a particular religious belief. Such an endorsement would violate the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment.
"Even classic religious symbols may have various meanings and purposes depending on their context," Sam wrote. "The memorial crosses at issue communicate a secular message, a message that a patrolman died or was mortally wounded at a particular location."
News of the ruling was well met by state troopers. "Obviously we're pleased," said UHPA president Shane Mebker. "The intent all along was to honor the sacrifice of these men for the state." Mebker said he was also pleased that Sam recognized that recognition.
Sam also noted that because the crosses were funded by donations through the Utah Highway Patrol Association, no government money was spent on them. Also, the UHPA is not considered a religious organization and thus the government cannot be seen as legally "entangled" with a religious organization or belief.
Much like the Ten Commandments, Sam said the Latin cross may act as a secular as well as a religious symbol, depending on the context. The reasoning was taken from two U.S. Supreme Court rulings issued recently which held that displays of the Ten Commandments can be on government property as long as their context is historic and not religious in nature.
American Atheists attorney Brian Barnard called Sam's ruling troubling in that the judge held that the cross as a symbol is as secular as the Christmas tree. "Such a holding demeans the cross and those religions which revere it. That vast majority of society today knows exactly and immediately the message a Roman cross conveys. It is not a generic symbol but the pre-eminent and exclusive symbol of Christianity," Barnard said.
The legal controversy over the memorial crosses is not over yet. Barnard said American Atheists will ask the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver to review the case.

Friday, November 30 marked the end of what will forever be remembered as the longest and most courageous battle between one man, a man we all know as the world's greatest daredevil, and death. Robert Craig "Evel" Knievel died in Clearwater, Florida, finally succumbing after nearly a three-year bout with the terminal lung disease, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. He was 69. His death was preceded by more than 40 years of constant battle against the persistent pain of broken bones and severe trauma after jumping and crashing motorcycles like no man had ever done before. In addition, he fought to overcome the tremendous obstacles of diabetes, hepatitis C, a liver transplant, numerous surgeries and two strokes. Knievel's legacy as America's Legendary Daredevil, Last of the Gladiators, and King of the Stuntmen will undeniably live on among millions of fans, past, present and future. However, the memories of the man apart from his legend will live on even stronger in the hearts of his friends and family. Despite his well-known swagger of self confidence, the legacy he wished for most of all was simply to be an inspiration.
"The fame of great men ought to be judged always by the means they used to acquire it." By this maxim, nothing will ever be able to take away or challenge the things accomplished by Evel Knievel. Whether it was unmatched courage or just an absolute unwillingness to give in to fear, Robert Craig Knievel was a man's man through all the days of his life. He took great pride in the simply stated, yet most difficult to accomplish principles: always living up to his word, never shirking the responsibility or consequences for his actions regardless of the personal risk, and never, not ever, failing to stop trying. Knievel was born in Butte, Montana on October 17, 1938 to Robert Edward and Ann (Keough) Knievel. He and his younger brother Nic were raised by the loving family of paternal grandparents Ignatius and Emma Knievel. Growing up and living in Butte were some of the most valued times of his life. His fame took him far and wide across the country and even over seas, but Knievel never let go of the love and pride he had for his hometown. Growing up in a blue-collar mining town, Knievel attended Butte public schools before serving in the U.S. Army reserves. As a young man he was always an exceptional athlete, hard worker and determined individual. Knievel explored and excelled in many different professions, if only for a short time, before finding his calling as the ultimate daredevil. During his prime as a bona fide celebrity, Knievel enjoyed his spoils to the highest. He loved fast cars, private airplanes, fancy yachts and the finest clothes and jewelry money could buy. He was sought out by Hollywood and remained friends with many famous people until his death. In the end, he had a few regrets, but he always sincerely strived to do the right thing. He never forgot who his real friends were. He never forgot his love for his family. And he never forgot the place from where he came, what he'd learned or what others had done to help him get to where he did. The red, white and blue for which he is famous were a tribute to his Butte character as much as they were for America. In his last years, one of the greatest honors was being able to share his hometown with his world of fans and to participate and take pride in the celebration of his annual event, "Evel Knievel Days." He dearly loved his grandchildren and he always made it a point to stay in touch with the people he loved the most, his friends and family. And lastly, most important to him above all was his new-found faith in Jesus Christ. Just as he always took great care in surrounding himself with the best people he could depend upon to help him make his jumps during his motorcycle career, Knievel found his greatest friend of all in preparation for his final leap from life. He was profoundly happy that he gave his life to God, who comforted him and gave him the strength he needed to make it through the end. Knievel is survived by his loyal friend and wife, Krystal Kennedy-Knievel, whom he married in 1999. She stood by his side through his greatest struggles with health until his death. His in-laws include Krystal's mother Sylvia and her husband Wayne Croft; father Glen Kennedy, and Krystal's sister Shawn and husband Rory with their two children. He is also survived by his former wife of 38 years, Linda Bork Knievel. Though they divorced, Linda and Evel had four children that all made them proud. Son, Kelly Knievel and daughter-in-law Shelli with granddaughter Lily; son, Robbie Knievel and granddaughters Krysten and Karmen, with great-granddaughter Analiese; daughter Tracey and son-in-law Mitch McLeod with grandchildren Josiah, Jesse, Melody, Cody, Cole, Casey and Dusty with wife Rachel and great-granddaughter Lucy; and his youngest daughter Alicia, with son-in-law Matt Vincent and grandchildren Madelyn, Jaicee, Rye and his sixteenth grandchild expected this June. Other surviving family members include his stepmother, Mrs. Robert Edward Knievel; brother, Nic and his wife Rusty; sister, Kristy and brother-in-law Hugh Lawrence; sister, Renee and brother-in-law Bill Slaughter; sister Robin and brother-in-law John Dick; and sisters Loretta Young and Kadie Boney. His is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and his millions and millions of fans. Public services will be held for family, friends and fans at the Butte Civic Center at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 10th. A private Christian burial and graveside services will take place at the Mountain View Cemetery. | ||
