Measure 54 was screened by CWA National Legal Department and CWA of Oregon is authorized to support this measure. We hope to do petition drives as the measure requires more than 110,000 signatures to make the November 2008 ballot.Please do not confuse Measure 54 with another Measure 22 that has just begun circulating. There is a significant cost to achieve victory in any battle, and certainly in war. Let's not deceive ourselves. We are in a serious battle in Oregon, in a war that is taking place across America. Calling it a 'culture war' misses the mark. It is a far more insideous war, between those who know the one true God, and men who follow the gods of this world, men who manifest their deception in our courts, the halls of government, our schools, the streets, the media, and yes, even in some of our churches. 
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- In their public relations campaigns and efforts to appear more moderate, Planned parenthood claims that they are much more than an abortion business. However, Planned Parenthood's latest annual report reveals it made $902.8 million dollars from 2005-2006 and did 264,943 abortions. The pro-abortion group released its latest annual report on Wednesday and the money it made in the last fiscal year is a new record and a 2.4 percent increase from the year before. Planned Parenthood reported total revenue increases of 10.7 percent, 5.7 percent and 8.9 percent in its previous three years and the non-profit group's moneymaking efforts don't appear to be stopping anytime soon. Jim Sedlak, who heads a Planned Parenthood watchdog group, says Planned Parenthood again took in more money than it needed to operate. It reported "excess of revenue of expenses" of $55.8 million for the fiscal year. "This marks the 34th year in a row that Planned Parenthood has reported "excess revenue" — otherwise known as profit," Sedlak said. "Over the years, Planned Parenthood has reported total profits of over $700 million. It has amassed a treasure chest of assets worth $839.8 million." Sedlak estimates that about $112.6 million, or 32.5 percent of the income its facilities generate, comes from doing abortions. 
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A House subcommittee earlier this week approved language in a State Department funding bill that would essentially gut a policy of the Bush administration prohibiting sending taxpayer funds to groups that promote or perform abortions abroad. The vote is intended to weaken the Mexico City Policy, President Bush reinstituted in January 2001 and first put in place by President Reagan. Its goal is to stop taxpayer funding of abortions in other nations and to prevent money from going to groups that lobby other countries to overturn their pro-life laws banning abortions. Rep. Nita Lowey, a pro-abortion New York Democrat who is the chairman of the House Appropriations subcommittee overseeing the State Department and foreign aid, annually leads an effort to topple the pro-life policy. She and other pro-abortion lawmakers approved language in the funding bill allowing the pro-abortion groups that have been denied the funds to receive donations of contraception at taxpayer expense to distribute in other countries. Pro-life advocates say the language weakens the policy to the point of rendering it ineffective. Douglas Johnson, legislative director of the National Right to Life Committee, agreed that the language guts the Mexico City Policy by allowing groups to get taxpayer funds as long as they use part of the money to promote contraception. In other words, a group could get a grant for $100 million and use 90% of the money to promote or perform abortions and 10 percent to promote contraception and qualify under Lowey's language. "Congresswoman Lowey is claiming that her language would fund only contraception, but in fact its purpose and effect would be to restore tax funding to organizations that aggressively promote abortion as a method of birth control," Johnson told LifeNews.com. 
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The nation's largest organization representing black Americans is cutting staff and closing down some of its regional locations in the face of declining donations. The moves come on the heels of a flip-flop on abortion and some black leaders saying abortion is distracting from civil rights issues.
It is estimated that Jack Kevorkian has played a role in 130 assisted suicides, yet, not once, has he shown remorse for his actions. 
Some backbench Bills are destined for stillbirth, and Ann Winterton's Bill yesterday was one of them. It would have compelled women who wanted an abortion to have counseling and to be given information about the possible effects. It was seen off, terminated, 107 votes for, 182 against. Pity. There was a useful point of principle there. It is that abortion has its own costs, not all of which are obvious, but which you jolly well ought to know about before you have one. You can take what view you like of the main effect, namely, that at the end of an abortion, you're minus one human fetus. But there are other implications, apart from the predictable risk of depression. A couple of weeks ago I went to a lecture by a specialist in high-risk obstetrics, Byron Colhoun, the joint head of the department of obstetrics and gynecology at West Virginia University. His subject was not, on the face of it, a must-listen, being about the association between abortion and premature birth. Five minutes in, I was sitting up. Professor Colhoun is an amiable, bespectacled American, with a sweet way of interspersing tables from academic studies with slides of the little Colhouns. But what he demonstrated was deadly serious. From the analysis of all published data on the subject, from the mid-1990s to last year, from France to Finland, Australia to Germany, we can say that abortion almost certainly produces a doubling in the premature delivery rate. We don't know why – maybe bacterial infection from a surgical intervention, maybe because of cervical trauma. In other words, for a woman who has never had an abortion, the chances of having a baby before 34 weeks are about 3 percent; in women who have had an abortion in the past, the rate doubles to 6-12 percent. 
Toronto, Canada (LifeNews.com) -- Representatives of a leading anti-euthanasia group say that the media reporting on a new survey in Canada on assisted suicide was somewhat misleading. A study there found a majority of patients want assisted suicide to be legal and that a good percentage of those polled would take advantage of such a law to kill themselves.
Philadelphia, PA (LifeNews.com) -- The City of Brotherly Love apparently has no love for babies before they're born. The city council has adopted a policy position backing legal abortion and saying it should be a constitutional right for women -- a move that is non-binding and drew opposition from pro-life advocates.City councils normally approve all sorts of resolutions honoring people or groups or special weeks and Philadelphia is no exception, with its city leaders passing numerous resolutions. But the policy statement favoring abortion was more contentious and barely eked through on a 9-8 vote, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer newspaper. The pro-abortion resolution proclaims Philadelphia as a "Pro-Choice City" which supports "women's reproductive rights and freedom" and defends "the right to choose a legal and safe abortion as a final but critical option for women." The proclamation has no legal impact on abortion in the Pennsylvania city but Cardinal Justin Rigali spoke out against it. "I ask all people of good will to join me in rejecting the divisive and erroneous label that Philadelphia City Council has forced upon the citizens of Philadelphia today," he said in a statement LifeNews.com obtained. 
Atlanta, GA (LifeNews.com) -- The Georgia Supreme Court heard a case earlier this week challenging the state's ban on using taxpayer funds to pay for abortions. Georgia currently only allows payment for abortions in extremely rare cases when the pregnancy may directly threaten the life of the mother or in cases of rape or incest.
