Life Lobby Team Update Alert: "Clone-and-Kill" Bill

Dear Reader's, an update here of the latest bill that must be stopped. Read the following and make those calls to your legislators. Jackie Leavitt CWA

HB 2801 The "Clone-and-Kill" Bill

HB 2801, the "clone-and-kill" bill, is back on the fast track to passage in the Oregon legislature. The bill has been assigned to the Joint Ways and Means Committee and will be scheduled for a hearing shortly. We have received word from sources in the Capitol that some Legislators are receiving hundreds of e-mails in support of the bill. That is why we need you.

We face a tough fight in the Joint Ways and Means committee as it is made up of primarily pro-abortion members. It is vitally important that you e-mail or call the members of the committee and kindly ask them to vote NO on HB 2801. Tell them that the states limited resources are better spent on research that doesn't promote the creation of life for the sole purpose of destroying it.

We cannot stop this bill without your help! Below is a list of the members of the committee and their contact information. You will also find a sample e-mail below that you can use as a guide when communicating with your Legislators. Please contact them today!

Sample E-Mail:
Dear (Legislators Name),

I am writing to ask you to please vote NO on HB 2801. HB 2801 promotes the cloning of human beings. Whether it is called therapeutic cloning or somatic cell nuclear transfer, it still creates a unique member of the human species that will in turn be destroyed for research.
I support stem cell research that uses adult stem cells. This research has already produced cures and treatments for number of diseases. We do not believe that it is appropriate to use public money to support research that clones and destroys human beings. Please oppose HB 2801.

Sincerely,
(Your Name and Address)

You can personalize your email in a variety of ways including adding one of our top three HB 2801 Talking Points:

· The bill will promote research considered unethical by thousands of Oregonians

· The bill will promote ONLY unethical embryonic stem cell research and human cloning and IGNORE ethical and effective adult stem cell research which has resulted in cures and treatments.

  • There is no need to create this State Commission. Public and private money already can be given to entities that conduct this research. This bill is entirely unnecessary and creates another state bureaucracy.

Referendum Progress Report

OR Update 5
Referendum Progress Report
May 31, 2007

  • Progress Report
  • Dealing With The Media
  • Points For Your Pastor

General Information
Referendums to place Oregon House Bill 2007 - instituting so called 'same sex marriage' by another name (domestic partnerships), and Oregon Senate Bill 2 - granting special rights to those who engage in certain types of immoral behavior - are underway in the State of Oregon. Petitions have been approved by the Elections Division, and initial printings are being distributed.

Requirements for Circulation
Both petitions REQUIRE that each bill accompany the petitions and be immediately available (at hand) wherever the petitions are circulated, whether in a church, public place or by an individual. PLEASE DO NOT VIOLATE THIS REQUIREMENT. Those who oppose our efforts will seek the dismissal of our petitions if they can find anyone circulating the petitions without both bills being in their possession.

Progress Report
Petitions have been distributed to Amity, Beaverton, Bend, Canby, Cave Junction, Eugene, Forest Grove, Hood River, John Day, Medford, Milwaukie, Oregon City, Portland, Salem, Sheridan, Springfield, Sutherlin, Tigard, and Troutdale with more orders to be filled as printing is completed this Friday.

With the proliferation of email usage, on average, only 30% read their emails. YOUR HELP IS NEEDED to spread the word about the Referendums and Petition availability. Our main (and least expensive) form of communication is by email. Please forward this email and future emails to Christian friends and associates wherever they are in Oregon.

ORDER PETITIONS FOR YOUR CHURCH with an email to info@restoreamerica.org supplying: 1) The number of petition pages you will need for your church (10 SIGNATURES TO A PAGE; ONE PAGE PER REFERENDUM), 2) The name, address, and phone number of your church, as well as your pastor's name. 3) Your full name and address with phone number.

Please note: You will need a copy of both bills for your church, and for yourself, if you plan to personally gather signatures. Follow the instructions carefully.

Dealing With The Media
The Media in Oregon is unfortunately filled with secularists who do not hold our values or views and invariably place their bias and 'spin' on everything we say about our efforts. If you receive calls from your local, state, or out of state media, simply tell them that:
  • This is a broad based effort by thousands of Oregonians to restore the will of the people.
  • There is no one spokesperson at this point.

Beyond these two points simply respond with 'No comment."

Points For Your Pastor
Cogent arguments for both referendums are being prepared for you and for pastors and will be sent both by mail and email.

Please read and forward each email on the Referendums. They are designed to provide the information you need to obtain the number of valid signatures required to place both referendums on the November 4th, 2008 General Election Ballot.

He Is With Us
The Prophet Jeremiah said, "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for peace and not for calamity, to give you a future and a hope." Jeremiah 29:11

CWA Legislative Update

May 26, 2007

If My people who are called by My name humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

By Norma Rich, Legislative Liaison

CWA of Oregon – date: May 21, 2007

The following is an update to let CWA members know what the results have been regarding the bills in which CWA of Oregon took some sort of position and/or actively pursued defeat or passage of a bill. We knew from the outset of the session it was going to be a difficult year to pursue family based legislation because of the very liberal makeup of the legislature and the governor's office. As this report will show it was even more difficult to defend family and Christian values in churches, schools, businesses and organizations then we thought it would be.

House Bill 2459: makes English the official language of the state. CWA of Oregon endorsed this bill.

House sponsors are Reps. Donna Nelson, R-McMinnville; Brian Boquist, R-Dallas; Kevin Cameron. R-Salem. Senate sponsors are: Senators Jason Atkinson, R-Grants Pass and Senator Gary George, R-Newberg. Rep. Donna Nelson, chief sponsor of the bill, stated such a move is necessary because a common language is necessary to unite diverse people. Rep. Nelson said incoming calls have been 95 percent favorable with calls from both Republicans and Democrats. The bill was referred to the House Elections, Ethics and Rules Committee.

Status: This bill died in committee despite much public interest and many calls. Chairwoman, Rep. Diane Rosenbaum, chose not to conduct a public hearing and stated HB 2459 is not a high priority, and the bill is essentially dead in committee at this time.

SB 2: SO-CALLED ANTI-DISCRIMINATION BILL

This bill would have granted special minority status to gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgender individuals.

CWA of Oregon opposed this bill for the following reasons:

  • It contained inadequate protection of our rights as Christians;
  • It contained inadequate protection of churches and religious organizations;
  • It allowed judges to define the primary purpose of a church;
  • It included not only gays and lesbians, but also bi-sexual and transgender individuals and "perceived sexual orientation;"
  • It would have required more "diversity" education in public schools, and
  • It would have put businesses at risk of erroneous lawsuits.

A public hearing was held on this bill on March 12, 2007, at the Capitol in a jam-packed hearing room where many Christians young and old came to testify. Some came from as far away as Bend and Portland. There were many pastors, attorneys, organizations and just plain folks who came to present their concerns, especially about the threat to the religious liberty of church and related church organizations. The First Amendment regarding freedom of religious expression was cited many times. In spite of all the opposing views on SB 2, it was readily passed out of committee; it seemed that this was the apparent intent of the committee from the beginning. The bill was then sent to the Senate Floor for a second reading and vote.

THE BILL PASSED EASILY IN THE SENATE AND WAS REFERRED TO THE HOUSE FOR A FIRST READING.

House speaker Jeff Merkley then referred SB 2 to the Elections, Ethics and Rules Committee chaired by Rep. Diane Rosenbaum. A public hearing was held on March 12. Well over 700 people attended, and the Hearing Room and five overflow rooms were totally packed as well as the hundreds in the Galleria section of the lobby. The ratio of opponents to the bill to supporters was at least 4 to 1 and acknowledged by even the Statesman Journal. The opponent speakers ran well over 130 and included many pastors and attorneys as well as youth leaders and everyday citizens who felt very strongly about the issues. In spite of the overwhelming opposition, the bill was moved out of committee that evening and to a work session the next day to "iron out some of the problems" with regard to the violation of First Amendment rights of churches and organization. As one pastor who was also an attorney put it. "The church will not take it."

After many hours of discussion and some concessions during work session, there was an amended version of the bill which many felt was not adequate so 500 pastors and church leaders came to Pastor's Day at the Capitol and talked and prayed with all 60 House representatives. In addition, Restore America presented over 17,000 signatures a petition called "Stop the Bill Oregon." CWA of Oregon also presented packets to House members in opposition to the bill and put out an Action Alert to members. The switchboards were jammed with citizens representing CWA of Oregon, Oregon Family Council, Restore America and others. One representative told us he had 650 e-mails and over 400 calls and wanted to reassure us he was voting "no" on SB-2. However, the original intent by the newly elected Democratic majority in the House was to pass this bill which they did with a narrow vote with all Demos voting "yes" along with three Republican legislators.

SB-2 BACK TO THE SENATE BECAUSE OF THE AMENDMENTS:

It passed the Senate easily and was signed by President Peter Courtney and forwarded to the governor's office for his signature.

SB 2A was signed on May 9, 2007, by Governor Kulongoski along with HB 2007A

REFERENDUM PETITIONS FILED AND APPROVED

Many citizens and groups were not happy with the amendments and the passage of a domestic partnership bill HB 2007 as a companion to SB 2. These bills were considered in direct opposition to the will of the people who passed Measure 36, and many felt the legislature rammed these bills through in spite of the opposition expressed by the public. Therefore, a coalition called Concerned Oregonians, 15685 SW 116 Ave, PMB 299, King City, Oregon 97224 was formed to stop these legislative rulings from taking place.

CWA OF OREGON WILL UPDATE YOU ON HOW TO BECOME INVOLVED AS SOON AS THE PETITIONS ARE APPROVED

HB 2007: HB 2007 would amend the Oregon marriage laws and potentially legalize same-sex marriage by labeling it a civil union as they attempted to do under SB 1000 last term.

CWA of Oregon strongly opposed HB 2007 for the following reasons:

  • It included benefits that simply cannot apply to same-sex relationship such as benefits tied to the federal government;
  • It threatened traditional marriage as the standard for raising children, and
  • It ignored the will of 57 percent of Oregonians who voted to preserve the legal definition of marriage as only between one man and one woman under Measure 36.

HB 2007 was heard in the House Rules Committee on April 12 along with SB-2 and was sent to the House Floor on April 17 where it passed with a 34 "yes" vote to a 26 "no" vote and was referred to the Senate on April 18 for an April 25 Hearing and Work session. Due to opposition a basic change was made to the bill. It changed its image by becoming a Domestic Partnership bill with little change to the content.

STATUS: HB 2007A WAS SIGNED BY GOVERNOR KULONGOSKI ON MAY 9, 2007 ALONG WITH SB 2A BUT A REFERENDUM PETITION HAS ALSO BEEN SIGNED ON THIS BILL TO STOP THIS BILL FROM TAKING EFFECT.

SB 776: This bill was presented by request of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Oregon, NARAL, and Pro-choice Oregon.

It is a dangerous and unnecessary bill that is an outright attack on the ministry of all Pregnancy Resource Centers in Oregon. This bill is a high priority for Planned Parenthood and liberal pro-abortion Democrats in the Legislature.

CWA of Oregon strongly opposed this bill for the following reasons:

  • It could ultimately be used to shut down pro-life pregnancy resource centers in the state;
  • Under this bill, the Department of Human Services would be required to collect and study data on all aspects of the state's pregnancy resource centers. It would establish a toll-free number allow online complaints for the DHS to track and investigate any or all pregnancy centers;
  • The bill would also examine the religious affiliations and counseling methods used by pregnancy counseling centers;
  • This legislation claims that pregnancy centers are using "deceitful tactics" to mislead and manipulate women into choosing life over death;
  • It is an unprecedented intrusion by government into private charitable activity without due cause, and
  • Oregon's pregnancy resources centers receive no state funds. It is a one-sided investigation with a built-in bias.

SB 776 was a clear attempt to build a case for regulating and closing pregnancy counseling centers in Oregon. This is also part of a national attempt to do so.

STATUS: AFTER MUCH OUTRAGE AND MANY CALLS TO MEMBERS OF THE SENATE, SENATE PRESIDENT PETER COURTNEY PROMISED TO WITHDRAW THE BILL.

AS OF THIS DATE IT APPEARS TO HAVE DIED IN THE SENATE RULES COMMITTEE, BUT WE WILL KEEP YOU POSTED IF IT GETS NEW LIFE.

HB 3547: AMENDS THE STATE CONSTITUTION AND ALLOWS STATE OR LOCAL GOVERNMENT TO USE ITS REGULATORY POWER TO RESTRICT "STRIP ACTS" (defined)

A Hearing was held on April 30, 2007, before the House Judiciary Committee with a subsequent work session and referral to the House Rules Committee on May 4, 2007, where it is still waiting for referral to the House Floor for vote.

CWA of Oregon strongly supports this bill and initiated an Action Alert requesting calls to your representatives to request this bill be moved to the House Floor for a vote. The Rules Committee will need a lot more calls and e-mails to prompt them to act.

Another reason the ACLU needs to go!!!

ACLU condemned for 'attacking' veterans memorials during time of war

Jim Brown OneNewsNow.comMay 25, 2007 mojave_desert_cross.jpg

A constitutional attorney says instead of thanking American veterans for their service, the American Civil Liberties Union is "dishonoring" them by attacking their memorials across the United States.

Hear This Report
Listen to it Here

The American Legion has announced that it is teaming up with the Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) and Liberty Legal Institute in a campaign to fight ACLU efforts to remove religious symbols from war memorials. The ACLU has already filed suit to remove crosses at veterans' memorials, like the Mt. Soledad cross in San Diego and the Sunrise Rock cross in the Mojave Desert, which is now covered by a box.

At a press conference at the National Press Club in Washington, DC, Liberty Legal attorney Hiram Sasser accused the ACLU of engaging in "a war against honor and valor." He said it is "inconceivable in a time of war such as now that the ACLU and others would be attacking the memorials, the very symbols of honor and sacrifice of our national heritage.

New Massachusetts Plan to Destroy Marriage in Your State

New Massachusetts Plan to Destroy Marriage in Your State

TAKE ACTION!

Send an urgent request to your state legislators asking them to organize, support and defend the common sense definition of marriage in your state.

If a Marriage Protection Caucus™ has already been launched in your state, it encourages them to join without delay. If not, it encourages them to start one immediately.

The Alliance for Marriage Foundation is aggressively working around the clock on behalf of the American family. We are daily engaged in this serious fight for the future of our nation. It is only by making our voices heard that we can fully protect marriage for our children and grandchildren.

Please Donate now! Your participation will make a difference!

Massachusetts legislators who are members of our national Marriage Protection Caucus have informed AFM of the new plan that activists in their state have developed to make sure that the destructive social lie of "gay marriage" is forced on our nation.

As you may know, a struggle is raging in Boston to stop citizens from voting on a state constitutional amendment to protect marriage in the Bay State. Such an amendment would allow the voting public to overturn the notorious 4-3 court decision striking down marriage in Massachusetts as an alleged expression of bigotry under law.

As part of this struggle, national figures such as Nancy Pelosi have been enlisted to threaten Democratic state legislators who are attempting to allow state residents to vote on the issue. Obviously, those who are zealously committed to the oxymoron of "gay marriage" are terrified that the common sense of the public might prevail over the views of the single liberal judge who created the whole marriage debate in America.

But the game plan of activists in Massachusetts – and their allies like Nancy Pelosi – goes far beyond Boston. They are aiming to force their destructive values on your family by exporting their social toxic waste to your state.

What we've learned from legislators in the Boston State House is that radical activists are secretly planning a legislative "one-two punch". First, stop the marriage amendment from reaching the people of Massachusetts. Second, move immediately to strike the 1913 law requiring state residency for a marriage license.

PHASE ONE – STOP DEMOCRACY IN MASSACHUSETTS

The first "punch" smashes any hope for the future of marriage in Massachusetts – and ensures that a single judge can force her values on an entire state without the people being given any voice in a debate that will dramatically affect future generations.

Of course, Nancy Pelosi is involved because this first punch will keep a politically popular marriage amendment away from the people in a presidential election year. This is why she is engaged in personally lobbying state legislators prior to the marriage amendment vote now scheduled for June 14. According to our legislative contacts in Boston, Pelosi and other opponents of the marriage amendment will stop at nothing to get the votes they need to keep the amendment off the ballot. In the event they fall short, they'll simply delay the vote as they have done in the past

PHASE TWO – MARRIAGE IN AMERICA IS THE REAL TARGET

But the second blow is the real "sucker punch" – because it will immediately send gay and lesbian activist groups to court to challenge marriage in every state. It is designed to make sure that Massachusetts "gay marriages" become the new social norm for America. Activists from all 50 states will travel to Massachusetts, obtain a marriage license and then sue in federal court to strike down any laws (or state amendments) protecting marriage in other states.

Moreover, this second blow will happen regardless of whether the first "punch" is successful. In other words, the opponents of marriage have a plan to ensure that they can destroy marriage in your state – even if they can't stop the citizens of Massachusetts from voting on their own state amendment. Regardless of what happens to the state amendment in Massachusetts, activist groups have a plan to create a national blitz of lawsuits challenging state marriage laws, state marriage amendments, and the 1996 federal Defense of Marriage Act.

As activists on the other side plunge our nation deeper into a debate over the future of marriage and the family under our laws, it becomes clearer every day that AFM was correct in predicting the inevitable national scope of this struggle. As our opponents have always assumed, the legal status of marriage is so fundamental to our common social, cultural and political life that a national standard is inescapable. The only question is whether marriage in America will be defined by the People or by the judges who share the values of Nancy Pelosi and radical gay activists.

In the end, even if we lose in Massachusetts, we have every reason to hope that we can prevail nationally – provided that the suppression of democracy in Massachusetts is not replicated on a national scale. The national resolution of this struggle will be binding on every state – including Massachusetts. This is why AFM is laboring to ensure that the values of the vast majority of Americans are given political expression – at both the state and federal level – in this historic struggle for our children's future.

Thank you for your friendship and partnership in our efforts to ensure that more children in America are raised in a home with a mother and a father.

Campus Intolerance Leads to the Arrest of Christians and to University Police Officer being Suspended

Hello All: This is the shape of things to come if we do not vote our values. This article comes from Life and Liberty Ministries.Great work going on over there. Check them out.

T&T Capitol 3

This morning, Kutztown University (Pennsylvania), exhibited intolerance and hostility towards the gospel. Shortly after we began ministering at Kutztown University a crowd of approximately 400 to 500 students surrounded the team of Gospel preachers.

Evan preaching.jpg

Even though this is a state university and a classic free speech venue, the university police force ordered the Christians to leave the campus immediately. The police then, at the urging of a hostile crowd, arrested two preachers from the ministry team. As the remainder of the team left with police escort, they were followed by several hundred angry and profane lovers of tolerance. The ministry team is a unified outreach of several gospel ministries from across the nation. The two team members who were arrested were charged with disorderly conduct. One university police officer was relieved of his immediate duties and then suspended when he questioned the Constitutionality of participating in the obvious discrimination of the Christian group. He is now awaiting further disciplinary actions.

"OFFICER UPDATE" On April 26, Officer Steve Armbruster was called upon to appear for a disciplinary meeting. He was given 5 days with no pay. He has served with the Kutztown University police for 15 years.

House Democratic leaders to kill funding for abstinence education programs

Urgent Telephone Alert to the House Energy & Commerce Committee

The Democratic leaders of the House Energy & Commerce Committee have reportedly decided to kill the abstinence education program this year in favor of so-called "comprehensive" programs that emphasize "safe sex" and contraception.

Abstinence education programs have been shown to effectively reduce the risks of out-of-wedlock pregnancy and the incidence of sexually transmitted diseases. They teach teenagers that saving sex until marriage and remaining faithful afterwards is the best choice for health and happiness. However, the Democratic leadership wants to replace that message with federally-funded contraceptive sex education programs that fail to teach young people about the dangers of STDs and extra-marital sex, as well as the inefficiency of contraception. As a result, we could end up with programs like Boulder High School in Colorado where a guest speaker told students as young as 14 to go have sex.

The National Abstinence Education Association is touting a new Zogby International poll that shows American parents favor abstinence education over comprehensive sex education by a two-to-one margin. Click here for more information on the survey.

Congressman Lee Terry who serves on the House Energy & Commerce Committee has written a strong letter urging his Congressional colleagues to fund abstinence education programs in their current form.

Take Action

Urgent - the life or death of funding for abstinence education is a very important one. Enter your zip code and click "GO" where you will be shown the phone number for your representative's office, and an appropriate suggested message -- one message if he/she is a member of the House Energy & Commerce Committee, and a different message if he/she is not.

This is urgent -- please act today! Abstinence is the healthiest message and practice for teens. These programs teach youth how to avoid sexual activity and make wise health choices.

Honoring My Father/From: Jonathan Falwell

Hello to all of our blog readers here is some information for you.
Gods blessings
T&T

FALWELL CONFIDENTIAL

Insider weekly newsletter to The Moral Majority Coalition and

The Liberty Alliance http://www.moralmajority.com

From: Jonathan Falwell

Date: May 18, 2007

Honoring My Father

In I Kings chapter 2, the great King David spoke to his son Solomon about the important things in life. David, who was on his deathbed, shared with Solomon the importance of always following God’s will in his life. David told his son to be strong, to obey God’s laws, and to never stray from what he had learned about God’s promises. In the end, David promised Solomon that if he would follow God throughout his life, he would be able to accomplish great things.

These principles that David shared with his son are the same principles that my dad followed throughout his life. He held God’s promises close to his heart throughout his 55 years as a Christian and more than 50 years as a pastor, never losing sight of the unique vision God had planted in his heart.

I saw through the years that my dad always sought God’s direction and then boldly, even audaciously, went to work to carry out what God placed in his heart.

As David shared those principles with Solomon thousands of years ago, my dad also shared the same principles with my brother Jerry Jr., my sister Jeanie, and with me. He not only verbally shared them with us; he lived them out in amazing ways.

I never once saw my father stray from God’s direction. I never doubted dad’s walk with God because I witnessed his unswerving commitment to follow God’s principles every step of the way. What a legacy!

I am praying now that I can live my life as a humble and committed servant of God, as my dad did, as my family continues to keep the vision alive.

My dad frequently quoted Proverbs 29:18, which simply states, “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” My dad was most definitely a man of vision.

As his son, I had a unique perspective on the growth of Thomas Road Baptist Church and Liberty University. I have witnessed many events, both good and bad, in their histories. One thing that was always evident was that dad never stopped believing in the vision that God placed on his heart. He was simply tenacious in following God’s instructions.

I was born in 1966, ten years after dad started his public ministry. As far back as I can remember, my memories of dad are of a man who was fully committed to doing everything he possibly could to further the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

I remember many days and nights when he would come home and would tell the family the plans that God had laid on his heart for new ministries. I remember those first conversations about starting a college. His vision was to build a college that would further the educational arm of the ministry that had already begun with the founding of Lynchburg Christian Academy. He was buzzing with excitement at this new venture God had placed in his heart.

I remember his conversations about expanding the television ministry across America to reach every possible home with the Gospel.

I remember those early conversations about trying to impact the culture by getting involved in politics.

I remember him sharing his passion to bring Christians to the political table.

All along the way, my dad never got discouraged or sidetracked from the vision. He remained steadfast in a way that only Jerry Falwell could.

As I think back on my dad’s nearly 51 years of ministry, I can only attribute its great success to God and a man who understood vision. I hope that I, too, will be able to effectively teach these principles to my children in the years to come.

And, I hope that as I continue teaching these principles — to the church and to my own family — that it will be far more than just words. I am praying that God will allow me to embody the dedication to the Gospel in my life that I saw in my father’s life.

May people see these principles lived out every day in my life, just as I had the great privilege of witnessing this in my dad’s life.

The Falwell Confidential Will Continue On

One of the ways in which I will keep my dad’s legacy alive is to take on his role in writing the Falwell Confidential. I will be working with the National Liberty Journal staff and continuing to confront the culture through this communiqué. I ask that you pray for me as I take up the mantle of Jerry Falwell in this manner. I certainly feel humbled by the great challenge of filling his shoes in this way. But I believe this is how he would want it to be.

Guest Commentary by Guy Adams

Germany Unrepentant Over Holocaust?

Guy Adams

Dir., ValuesUSA [.net]

I just read the story of how the German government wants to put the parents of six children in jail because they are home-schooling their kids. Juergen and Rosemarie Dudek have already paid a fine over the situation but to the prosecutor in the German state of Hesse, that’s not good enough. A recent World Net Daily article said “A family's failure to follow the mandatory school attendance laws violates not only administrative regulations, but the criminal code.”

Did you catch that? The government of modern day Germany says that it’s a crime to home-school your own kids. In other words, Germany is legislating thought-control. That is the same type of attitudes and practices that were prevalent in pre-W.W.II Germany. That is the same arrogant attitude the Nazis had. That tells me that to some extent, Germany is not repentant over the holocaust because they are marching back to the very same type of practices that led them down that path. How can they be repentant when they act as they did then?

Night of Broken Glass?

Kristallnacht, more commonly known as The Night Of Broken Glass, was when many scholars think that the persecution of Jews in Germany really began. Most Jewish stores had their windows smashed and many Jewish-owned stores were burned to the ground. That is when the state sanctioned pogrom began. In the end, at least six and a half million Jews were murdered. But before that, thought and speech control was already official state policy so that when the time came to implement the gas chambers, no one spoke out. Germany is approaching that point again.

You might say that such a thing could never happen again. Of course it can, and in 1933 Germans and even most Americans said the same thing. When a government legislates thought and speech control, tyranny is soon to follow. In the recorded history of the world it has always been that way. For example, Communist Russia, Nazi Germany, Imperial Japan, Rome, Iran under the Shaw, Cuba under Castro, just to name a few. Is the new German Republic soon to be added to that list? Should Germany persist in persecuting home-schooling parents so that the government can tell the children what to think and what not to say, tyranny is soon to follow.

A person’s actions tell you what they believe. Likewise, a government’s laws tell you what the leaders believe. The WND article says “The philosophy that the government knows best how to raise children is really becoming a worldwide phenomenon," Farris said. "I think Germany represents the edge of the night that's coming.” Indeed. Germany has not learned from the lessons of its own recent history.

You can tell who and what a government opposes by the people they imprison. And Germany is jailing Christian home-schooling parents.

Guy

What can you do?

1) Tell the German Ministry of Education that that putting these parents in jail for home-schooling their children is wrong and reminds you of what was practiced in pre-war Nazi Germany. The German official in charge, who is the Minister of Education for Hesse, is Karin Wolff, and she can be reached at:

Hessisches Kultusministerium, Luisenplatz 10, 65185 Wiesbaden, 06151/17120.

2) Email your support for the Dudeks. Netzwork Bildungsfreiheit is the home-schooling advocacy group that is helping the Dudeks. A supporting email can be sent to the Dudeks via Evelyn Roth, and her email address is Bildungsvielfalt@arcor.de. Other email addresses for this group can be found at:

Referendum Petitions Available

OR Update 5
Referendum Petitions Filed, Approved, Available
May 19, 2007

  • Requirements for Circulation
  • Our Part
  • Using The Oregon Political Tax Credit

Petitions to stop House Bill 2007 instituting so called 'same sex marriage' by another name (domestic partnerships), and Senate Bill 2 - granting special rights to those who espouse immoral behavior - have been filed and approved by the Oregon Secretary of State.

Petitions are being printed and distribution will commence as quickly as the financial support is received.

Here is where we all begin to do our part.
Respond to this UPDATE with an email to info@restoreamerica.org supplying: 1) The number of petition pages you will need for your church, 2) The name, address, and phone number of your church. Please note: You will need a copy of both bills for your church, and for yourself, if you plan to personally gather signatures. 3) Your full name and address with phone number.

Using Your Political Tax Credit
Your Financial Support is Needed.

The cost of printing, mailing containers, and postage for mailing thousands of petitions and copies of these two bills is extensive. Significant expenditures are now required. Without your financial support, we do not have the ability to proceed.

The Oregon Political Tax Credit allows an individual to give $50.00 and a married couple $100.00 to a Political Action Committee (PAC) such as ours, b>WITHOUT COSTING THEM ANYTHING, except the postage on a first class letter.

Any amount contributed up to the above amounts can be taken as a direct credit off the bottom line of your 2007 Oregon Tax Filing. If you do not use this Tax Credit, you will lose it to the state, for whatever purposes they choose, including tax payer funded abortions. Why not apply those dollars to stopping these bills?

Simply make your check to CONCERNED OREGONIANS up to the applicable amount. Include a handwritten cover note stating your occupation and send it to 15685 SW 116th Ave., PMB 299, King City, OR 97224 .

You may send a larger amount if you desire. The tax credit portion still applies. God will supply the needs of those who honor Him and His 'eternal rules of order and right.'

God Bless ALL 9,000 of you on this email list! It was your phone calls to the legislators that made them intensely aware of the opposition, encouraged those in the legislature who opposed the bills, and will make it possible to place these politically motivated and morally devastating bills on the ballot.

If each of you PRAY, SEND THE ABOVE EMAIL, and send a check for $10 or more to CONCERNED OREGONIANS this month, we will be on our way to obtaining the required signatures.

P.S. Thanks to the legal counsel, wisdom, and work of Kevin Mannix and his law firm in Salem - at no charge - we now have more than 120 days to acquire the needed signatures for placing both bills on the November 2008 General Election Ballot.

Statement of Concerned Women for America On the Passing of Dr. Jerry Falwell

Washington , D.C. – Concerned Women for America (CWA) offers its condolences to the family and loved ones of Dr. Jerry Falwell who passed into glory yesterday.

CWA issued the following statement by Beverly LaHaye, founder and chairman:

"Dr. Jerry Falwell is a long-time dear friend who had a tremendously positive impact on America. His bold leadership helped change the course of Evangelical engagement in the public square. Dr. Falwell made big dreams reality – by inspiring millions to political involvement, by dedicating himself to higher education, and most importantly, by fostering Christian outreach to the spiritually and physically needy through Thomas Road Baptist Church and its myriad ministries. Though he is now with the Savior he loved, Jerry Falwell's legacy will continue through the lives of those who were so profoundly touched by his vision."

Wendy Wright, president of CWA, said, "Dr. Jerry Falwell had a profound impact on America by reviving Evangelicals' involvement in the broader culture. He gained the authority to be heard on key issues of our day because of his work to help people in need and train leaders for the future. All of us at CWA are praying for his family and those who worked with and loved him. We take comfort in the words of Jesus Who promised eternal life to all who believe."

Memo to Lou Dobbs: Pastors Are Citizens Too

Hello to all of our blog readers here is some information for you.

Memo to Lou Dobbs: Pastors Are Citizens Too!
May 14, 2007 | Refer a Friend

CNN host Lou Dobbs is a man of strong opinions - but last week he offered a wrong opinion. Dobbs challenged the First Amendment rights of pastors and asked his viewers in an online poll whether they believe "churches and religious institutions that engage in political activity should have their federal tax exemptions revoked." He attacked church leaders for speaking out on the immigration debate.

There is much disagreement on immigration, but these leaders have every right to express their views. Last year, Lou Dobbs said the "intrusion of religion into our political lives, in my opinion, should be rejected in the same fashion that we constitutionally guarantee government will not interfere with religion."

Throughout American history, church leaders have spoken out on the vital moral issues of the day - whether it be slavery, civil rights, or in defense of the family and the dignity of human life. One of the enduring lessons the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. taught is the power a religious community can have in society. Reverend King said, "The church must be reminded that it is not the master or the servant of the state, but rather the conscience of the state. It must be the guide and the critic of the state. If the church does not recapture its prophetic zeal, it will become an irrelevant social club without moral or spiritual authority."

Please contact Lou Dobbs today and tell him that our pastors aren't second-class citizens who lose their constitutionally guaranteed right to free speech upon entering the pulpit. Voices of faith have been a powerful force for positive change and play an irreplaceable role in society. Removing those voices will only contribute to society's fall.

Thank you for taking action today, and may God bless you.

Press Release
Constitution Party Pulls Their Petition, Joins Referendum Coalition
May 16, 2007
Constitution Party Joins Coalition
LAKE OSWEGO, OREGON - Recognizing the need for Oregonians of all political persuasions and affiliations to participate in only two referendums in opposition to HB 2007 and SB 2, the Constitution Party has happily pulled their petition.

Quickly responding to requests to join the Coalition of Democrats, Republicans, and Independents, Bob Ekstrom and Jack Brown, leaders of the Constitution Party, both agreed one referendum per bill is what is needed, not two. They join a rapidly growing coalition who believe the Governor and Legislature have overstepped their authority with passage of SB 2 and HB 2007.

The Coalition Petition is scheduled to be filed today to begin the process of approval and signature gathering. We at Restore America will keep you informed as we call on and prepare Oregonians to participate in this important effort.

All Oregonians Best Served
As with Measure 36, the issues of marriage and morality are fundamental social issues and important to all social groups. They should not be tampered with or politicized. That lesson should have been learned with the rejection of the Multnomah County Commissioner's decision to unilaterally grant marriage licenses to so called 'same sex partners' in 2004.

By the legislature's decision to void the will of the people as expressed in Measure 36 and placed in the Oregon Constitution, the people of Oregon can ill afford to grant power to a small group of Portland legislators to impose their values and their will on the rest of the state in defiance of the Constitution.

Jerry Falwell ‘Finished Well'

Dr. Dobson scheduled to pay tribute to pioneering leader on Larry King Live.

The Rev. Dr. Jerry Falwell, founder of the Moral Majority and Liberty University and pastor of the Thomas Road Baptist Church since 1956, died today. He was 73.

Falwell was found unresponsive in his office this morning. Attempts to resuscitate him failed.

Dr. James Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family Action, issued a statement honoring Falwell's life.

"Our hearts and prayers go out to Jerry’s wife Macel, his children Jerry, Jonathan and Jeannie, and his church. This is a tragic loss for them – and for all Americans. Jerry’s passions and convictions changed the course of our country for the better over the last 20 years – and I was proud to call him my friend. Read More

Constitution Party Confuses Effort to Create Broad Referendum Coalition
May 14, 2007

  • Constitution Party Files Separate Referendum
  • Broad Coalition of Oregonians To File Planned Referendums

Constitution Party files referendum
Choosing not to join a broad coalition of Oregon leaders preparing to file referendums in opposition to HB 2007 and SB 2, the Constitution Party filed their own referendum today.

Broad Coalition of Oregonians will file as planned
Believing that representation from a broad cross section of Oregonians is needed and preferred to gain the required signatures and prevail in the General Election, the here-to-fore referred to referendums will be filed as planned. Pray that the leaders of the Constitution Party will see the wisdom of not confusing the public with multiple referendums and join the coalition.

Referendums to Refer SB 2 & HB 2007 To The People Of Oregon Will Be Filed Soon

Hello to all of our blog readers here is some information for you
Gods blessings
T&T

OR Update 5
Referendums to Refer SB 2 & HB 2007 To The People Of Oregon Will Be Filed Soon
May 14, 2007

  • Referendum on "Domestic Partnerships"
  • Referendum on Providing Special Rights to Immoral Behavior

Referendum on HB 2007, "Domestic Partnerships"
Now that Governor Kulongoski has signed House Bill 2007 and Senate Bill 2 - Circumventing the will of the people of Oregon as clearly expressed in Measure 36 and placed in the Oregon Constitution - all Oregonians will soon have the opportunity to VOTE to uphold the Constitution and prevent both bills from being enacted into law.

The required political action committee (PAC), petitioners, legal documents, and necessary forms will be filed with the Secretary of State Elections Division, setting the referendum process in motion.

Once filed, petition wording for both referendums must then be approved. As soon as the petition wording is approved and the petitions printed and circulated, signature gathering will commence. 75,000 signatures within 90 days of the legislature's adjournment will be needed for each referendum to ensure the 55,179 valid signature requirement per referendum is met. Adjournment is expected by June 30th. When the required number of valid signatures is met per referendum, they will be placed on the November 2008 ballot for registered voters to approve or disapprove. If the required valid signatures are met for each referendum, SB 2 and HB 2007 will only become law ONLY if the VOTERS agree they should be.

Referendum on SB 2, Providing Special Rights to Immoral Behavior
A referendum on SB 2 will be filed at the same time by the above PAC and will be carried side by side as a 'companion' petition to the petition to stop HB 2007. Again, 55,179 valid signatures will place this referendum on the 2008 ballot, enabling Oregonians to stop the redefinition and devolution of both marriage and morality in Oregon.

SB 2, an unsubstantiated, unnecessary, and politically motivated bill that censors and suppresses our freedom of speech, corrupts the teaching of morality to our children, and protects the immoral rather than the moral, should be voted on by all Oregonians. No bill in Oregon history will have brought more social disruption, disunity, moral confusion and litigation to business and individuals who do not approve of these behaviors. SB 2 represents a clear attempt by the ungodly to deconstruct America's Christian based social order in favor of pagan and heathen immorality, and should be vigorously and diligently opposed.

May The Will of the People Prevail
Alexander Hamilton's declaration in the Federalist Papers that "the people" must take certain measures "to redress the injury done to the Constitution" when government oversteps it's "just bounds" of authority, is herein applicable.

Oregon's Governor and his party in the legislature have overstepped the 'just bounds' of their authority.

Not only have they ignored the will of the people as expressed in Measure 36, they have asserted moral authority possessed only by the people.

It is imperative therefore, that the people of Oregon, in order to preserve their rights, their moral authority, and the Constitution, support these two referendums in opposition to both HB 2007 creating 'marriage by another name', and SB 2, creating rights where no rights exist.

Same-Sex Benefits Now Law in Oregon

Gov. Ted Kulongoski signed legislation Wednesday that adds Oregon to the list of states allowing gay couples to enter domestic partnerships, The Associated Press reported.

The domestic-partnership measure will allow same-sex couples to gain many of the legal benefits of marriage.

In addition, Kulongoski signed a bill that gives homosexuals special rights by making sexual orientation a protected class.

Family advocates say they plan to launch a petition drive to refer both measures to the November 2008 ballot.

WILL BUSH APPROVE A MODIFIED HATE BILL?

By Rev. Ted Pike

In a moment of high political drama last Thursday, the President informed the House of Representatives that if Congress passed the hate crimes bill they were gathered to debate, his top advisors recommended he veto it. His warning reassured frightened lovers of freedom that, regardless of the actions of headstrong Democrats, our Commander in Chief could bring the hate bill to nothing.

Bush powerfully explained his opposition to the hate bill. His words showed that he’s well-informed about H. R. 1592’s redundancy and dangers. His explanation is probably similar to what he said as governor of Texas, when he vetoed the Anti-Defamation League’s state hate law.

Despite the president’s reassuring promise, disturbing questions remain. During his first term as president, Bush said he would approve “modified” hate crime legislation. So we have to wonder whether he’ll approve a “modified” federal hate law now.

What would a “modified” hate bill look like? By 2003 the hate bill suffered three defeats at the hands of Republicans. So its advocates offered a compromise: they would “modify” the hate bill. Up to that point, Sen. Orrin Hatch had steadfastly opposed the Hate Crimes Prevention Act. Yet he accepted the Democrats’ compromise and soon made a stunning announcement: he now supported the hate bill! He said it had been “modified” to ease his primary fear, that no checks and balances were available against rampant hate crime indictments from the federal government. The “modified” bill required that the federal government take no action without approval from the U.S. attorney general and his or her subordinates; Hatch, satisfied with compromise, joined with Sen. Edward Kennedy in promoting hate bill passage in the Senate.

But if a president as corrupt as Bill Clinton appoints an attorney general of the same character, like Janet Reno, then Hatch’s supposed check on federal power is useful as a Kleenex in a flood. Instead, Hatch blathered that America “should grow up and pass the hate bill.”

In the months following 2004 passage of the Kennedy-Hatch hate crimes amendment in the Senate, Hatch sobered and returned to opposition of the federal hate crimes legislation. He must have realized he had been carried away by a superficial “modification” without freedom-saving substance. In fact, the new ADL hate bill was even worse than the original! It allowed the federal government to intervene in hate crime trials whenever it didn’t approve of the verdict. It also granted federal jurisdiction for any felony or violent crime in the nation, not just hate crimes!

What do we learn from the snookering of Hatch? It could happen again. ADL, desperate to finally pass their dream legislation, could well offer Bush the “modified” version he once said he would pass.

But however ADL and the Democrats might prune a modified bill, it will still contain their poisonous essentials. First, it will include the terms of the original 1969 federal hate bill. This empowers the government to prosecute anyone who attempts to verbally “intimidate” a homosexual away from enjoyment of privileges or professions (including as a clergyman, Scout leader or P.E. coach) he desires. Second, it will include establishment of a bias-motivated justice system in America, where bias motivating a crime (such as refusal to rent an apartment to a homosexual or hire him as a youth director in your church) becomes justification for federal prosecution in the states. Lastly, even a modified bill will unify federal and state jurisdiction in law enforcement. This is the definition of a police state.

Time to Relax?

After the president’s warning of a veto, visits to our website fell by half. Clearly, many concerned Americans think they can relax now that the president has promised to intervene. They think the hate bill crisis is over.

I disagree. I suspect the only reason Bush intervened now is because the number of alarmed hate bill opponents is so high that we are viewed as a significant political bloc, worthy of placation. The hate bill has gone before Congress four times during the Bush presidency, being approved alternately by the Senate and House. I don’t remember Bush similarly coming forward when the number of protesters was lower. He certainly was non-committal two months ago.

If the nation begins to relax about the hate bill threat, the president probably will, too, and become open to compromise. There can be no compromise with H.R. 1592 or S1105. This legislation is toxic, designed by ADL for one reason: to take away our freedom.

Rather than putting our future into the hands of a politician, lovers of freedom must continue to fight this battle ourselves. We must solidly defeat the hate bill in the Senate. The Senate Judiciary is overwhelmingly pro-hate bill and we can expect the bill to move rapidly within the next several weeks. Yet our chances of victory in the Senate are much greater than in the House. We only need to persuade about 7 senators to vote “nay” in order to deprive ADL of the necessary 60 votes to pass.

At www.truthtellers.org we list the 14 Republicans who voted for the hate bill in 2004 and also the 17 Republicans who are currently not declaring their stand. We must inundate these crucial Republican Senators with calls this week, especially informing the members of the Senate from our district that if he or she votes for the hate bill, we and our friends will never vote for them again. It’s especially important that you send your senator and his influential 8-10 aides my powerful flyer, “Anti-Hate Laws Will Make You a Criminal.” (Flyer and aides are available at www.truthtellers.org.)

Call Republicans first. But don’t neglect to call Democrats. If you are a constituent send them and their aides my flyer. In the 2005 vote in the House only 5 Democrats voted against the hate bill. But in last week’s House vote, 14 Democrats crossed the aisle to vote with the Republicans against H.R. 1592! It may well be that the intellectual ferment of the many thousands of my flyers sent into Congress in the last several months has worked on the minds and consciences of these Democrat legislators, opening previously closed minds. The same could happen in the Senate.

This is the week, before the hate bill comes to a vote in the Senate, for one more upheaval of truth and protest. Victory against the hate bill in the Senate is vastly preferable to presidential veto. It would re-establish the credibility and prestige of the American people as those who control our destiny. Second, it would complete an enormous education program campaign in Congress, prejudicing many in the Senate against hate crime laws for years to come.

Push Forward to Victory

Only several months ago in mid-February, the new right and its leaders were virtually oblivious to the hate bill’s existence before the House. Since then, concern among Christian and conservative leaders has exploded. Discussion of the bill is also overflowing to the secular print media where articulate Republicans are raising, for the first time, incisive objections to hate laws. If this groundswell continues, it could pressure President Bush to veto all freedom-stealing legislation now being ramrodded through Congress by the Democrats.

This is not a time to pull back and relax. It’s time to aggressively reassert our control of government. We must support all members of Congress who oppose hate laws and let Bush know America tolerates no compromise.

The battle for freedom is now, not tomorrow. Let’s overwhelm senators of both parties with calls, faxes, emails, and my hate laws flyer. Call toll free 1-877-851-3467.

Don’t neglect to call the White House as well at 202-456-1111. Leave this message: “Thank you, Mr. President, for promising to veto the hate bill. I expect you to also reject any modified hate crime legislation.”

New York to Allow Churches to Use Public Buildings

State officials in New York have filed a new policy to allow religious groups to rent public space after attorneys with the Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) filed suit.

Robert Miskowski, pastor of Relevant Church, asked to use the Dulles State Office Building for Easter services. His request was denied by a state official, who said allowing a church to use a state building would be a violation of separation of church and state.

ADF filed suit March 27; state officials published the new policy in April.

Matt Bowman, legal counsel for ADF, said the new policy puts the state in compliance with the Constitution.

“Christian groups are entitled to the same fair and equal access rights as any other group,” he said. “We are pleased that the new policy will ensure that churches and religious groups throughout the state of New York will no longer find themselves singled out for unlawful discrimination.”

In light of the new policy, ADF filed a voluntary dismissal of the suit.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Neighbor:
I keep hearing, "Why don't those in NE Portland do more?" I am pondering here, "Why does that matter to you?" Dr. Alveda King reminded us a Benson on April 20, that there is one human race, and that we all need to care for it or there will be no human race. I think a better question we need to ask ourselves is, "am I doing enough to help those in north east Portland?" All of this reminds me of the Lord's words to us from Luke:10 when a lawyer asked him, "Who is my neighbor?" The Lord replied with the story about the good Samaritan. At the end of the story the Lord had his turn and asked the the lawyer a question, "So which of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?" The lawyer replied, "He who showed mercy on him." The Lord then commissioned him, "Go and do likewise".
I think this is our commission to show mercy and not only help people across town but help those across the world that are being annihilated by Planned Parenthood. We were all reminded by Pastor Marandu at the last meeting the importance of being a neighbor. So please let us not get hung up on an event that is five miles or five thousand miles away from us. We all need to show mercy. DISTANCE IS NOT AN ISSUE !!!
Rally Details:
On May 20, 2007 at 2:30 all of you need to come to a pro life rally in North East Portland. We will first meet at Irvington Convenant Church, 4008 NE Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. & NE Shaver St and then march two blocks over to the proposed site. Pastor Childress of the Black Genocide Awareness Project is coming to encourage us and Decon Harold Burke-Sivers is also speaking, others will also speak. Document is enclosed.
Please do not forget we have gatherings every evening at Beech St. and MLK to give witness to our brothers and sisters that we are committed to help preserve the right to life and the right to innocence.
Meeting:
We will have our next planning meeting on May 8, 2007 at 7:00pm at Immaculate Heart Parish Center.

Press Release
Governor Kulongoski & Legislature Assume Legal & Moral Authority They Do Not Possess
May 7, 2007

LAKE OSWEGO, OREGON - At 9:30 AM, this morning, May 7th, on the steps of the Oregon State Capitol in Salem, Governor Ted Kulongoski - in a private, invitation only ceremony - will assume a moral authority which no Oregon Governor or elected official has ever been granted.

With his signature on House Bill 2007, he will participate in a politically driven circumvention of the Oregon Constitution. 'Domestic partnerships' is nothing less than 'same sex marriage' by another name, a social fabrication manufactured at the behest of the Governor, and approved by the legislature to circumvent the Constitutional Amendment overwhelmingly approved by the people of Oregon in 2004.

When the Multnomah County Commissioners ignored Oregon law by granting marriage licenses to 'same sex partners' in 2004, calling it 'same sex marriage', both the courts and the people of Oregon said 'NO.' Now cometh the Oregon legislature, under the prodding of the Governor, to do precisely the same thing, giving us 'same sex marriage' ... by another name.

By signing this bill into Oregon law, the Governor, Speaker of The House Jeff Merkley, Senate President Peter Courtney, every democrat, and three republicans in the Oregon Legislature, are unlawfully conferring to 'same sex partners' in Oregon, the same rights and benefits of marriage reserved for a man and a woman only, by the Oregon Constitution.

Political Arrogance & Malfeasance of Office
56 of our elected representatives thumbed their noses at the people and willfully violated the Oregon Constitution.

The Governor and his 55 friends in the legislature, - by instigating, approving, and signing this bill - have assumed moral and legal authority they do not possess, in violation of the Oregon Constitution and the clear will of the people. At the very least it is an arrogant and elitist act, and surely ... malfeasance of office.

Oligarchy: "A form of government in which power is vested in a few, a dominant class or clique; a species of aristocracy."

Malfeasance: "The wrongful performance of an act which the actor has no right to perform."

We The People Are The Government
Unless the people of Oregon say "No" to this obvious and self evident usurpation of power without right, we embolden those who believe government is the final authority to ignore the Oregon Constitution, the people, and the 'eternal rules of order and right.'

Oregon Governor Assumes Authority Over The People of Oregon

OR Update 5
Governor Kulongoski & Legislature Assume Legal & Moral Authority They Do Not Possess
May 6, 2007

On Monday, May 7th, at 7:30 AM, Restore America will send out a press release to every Oregon media outlet about the At 9:30 AM invitation only ceremony on the steps of the Oregon State Capitol in Salem, at which Governor Ted Kulongoski will sign HB 2007 into Oregon Law. With his signature, he will knowingly participate in a politically driven circumvention of the Oregon Constitution, and the clearly expressed will of the people. He will also assume a legal and moral authority which he does not possess and no Oregon Governor or elected official has ever been granted.

'Domestic partnerships' is nothing less than 'same sex marriage' by another name, a social fabrication manufactured at the behest of the Governor, and approved by the legislature to get around the Constitutional Amendment limiting marriage to a man and a woman only, and overwhelmingly approved by the people in 2004.

Unless the people of Oregon through the referendum process say "No" to this obvious and self evident usurpation of power, we embolden those who believe government is the final authority to ignore the Oregon Constitution, the people, and the 'eternal rules of order and right,' George Washington spoke of in his Farewell Address.

I Need Your Help
Two referendums are needed to stop the bill being signed by the Governor tomorrow, and it's 'companion bill', SB 2, which he will sign in the near future. To place those referendums on the ballot, and win, will require the sacrifice and mobilization of several thousand Oregonians. Working together we can stop these bills from becoming law, and at the same time, replace those legislators who are in defiance of the people with those who will represent us, not ignore us.

I am committed to working with others around the state to accomplish these goals, and will do all in my power to serve Him and the people of Oregon in the process; however, I must obtain financial help from those who receive our emails in order to succeed.

Please prayerfully consider supporting Restore America monthly over the next 8 months . If you are unable to do so, a contribution of any amount now will enable us to pay operational expenses incurred over the last two months, increase our communication ability to tens of thousands throughout Oregon, and prepare for the gathering of 55,179 valid signatures for each referendum to be placed on the November 2008 General Election Ballot.

Restore America is a small, 'by faith' ministry with only one full time Director, part time operations manager, marketing and communications director, administrative assistant, and several volunteers. Our support team is committed to the ministry of Restore America, but our base of support is still small.

Please support us financially as we call Oregon civil government to respect God's 'eternal rules of order and right'.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." Margaret Mead

If you wish to support our efforts, you may simply write out a check for any amount to Restore America, and mail to P.O. Box 2225, Lake Oswego, OR 97035, or, if you prefer, you can go online with the above link and make your contribution by credit card.

Restore America is a 501c3 non profit Christian ministry and all contributions are tax deductible and receipts sent with return envelope.

The Making of a President

At the Reagan Library in California last night ten presidential hopefuls debated the issues and described how they would govern. Meanwhile here in Washington, George W. Bush was showing them how to do it right. The President's week started with a veto of the Democratic leadership's attempt to set a timetable for the cessation of history in Iraq. This was followed by a veto threat from his senior advisors on yesterday's clearly unconstitutional "hate crimes" legislation. To top off his week, after officiating at a National Day of Prayer event, President Bush sent a warning to the pro-abortion Democratic leadership: "I believe it is the most basic duty of Government to guard the innocent. With that in mind, I will veto any legislation that weakens current Federal policies and laws on abortion, or that encourages the destruction of human life at any stage." I want to thank all our constituents who signed FRC's petition requesting this letter from the President and also thank the many congressmen and senators who sent a letter requesting the same action. President Bush's decisiveness is cementing his positive impact on a return to a culture of life for this nation. He is setting a high standard for any successor by being a true blue champion of faith, family, and freedom.

Trials by Fire

In times of war and suffering, people find comfort and strength in their faith. Yet, as Christians, we know that sometimes faith can be hard to sustain. Yesterday, May 3, was the National Day of Prayer and President Bush took the opportunity to invite members of the military to the White House and let them know a grateful country was praying for them. As we include our service men and women in our prayers, it is important to lift up a prayer of thanks and gratitude for those of various denominations who serve as military chaplains. To maintain one's faith in the face of great evil is one of the hardest challenges that believers face, and to help others maintain theirs can seem an almost impossible task. A recent article in Newsweek details the brutal experiences that military chaplains deal with in fulfilling their divine calling. From putting ice on the bodies of dead soldiers when the mortuaries are too overwhelmed to take them to dodging bullets from snipers, the chaplains face a daily trial few of us will ever know. This week, as our nation acknowledges prayer and devotion to God as our source of strength, let's pause and acknowledge those who stand strong for Him and for His people.

President Vows to Veto Any Bill that Calls
for Destruction of Life

Letter to congressional leaders says he’ll stand strong for all stages of life.

President Bush, in identical letters to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, wrote, “I will veto any legislation that weakens current federal policies and laws on abortion, or that encourages the destruction of human life at any stage.”

Every child, he said, deserves life and the protection of the law.

“I am writing to make sure that there is no misunderstanding of my views on these important issues."

He affirmed that the U.S. was founded on the belief that every person has rights, dignity and matchless value. Medicine does not have to be in conflict with the ethical imperative to protect life.

“In fact, advances in science have made it possible to see life developing at earlier stages and underscore American’s obligation to protect helpless and innocent life from destruction,” Bush wrote, “whether it is in the womb or elsewhere.”

Brendan Daly, a spokesman for Pelosi, said she characterized the president’s message as a broad threat “to veto any pro-choice legislation.”

“Instead of trying to work with Congress,” Daly told The New York Times, “he’s trying to threaten Congress, and that won’t work.”

Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, said Pelosi is out of step with America: U.S. taxpayers do not want to fund the killing of human life.

"The president's legacy in support of a culture of life is solidified with this letter,” he said. “This veto promise and his opposition to further taxpayer funding of destructive human embryonic stem cell research -- coupled with two successful Supreme Court nominations of judges who will uphold the U.S. Constitution --should send a clear message to Democratic leadership that any attempts to further push their abortion agenda will be stopped at the door.”

Dr. James C. Dobson, founder and chairman of Focus on the Family Action, said the president has proven to be a friend of the pro-life movement as well as a protector of millions of innocent lives.

"President Bush is not the first man to occupy the Oval Office who talked about valuing preborn life,” Dr. Dobson said, “but no administration has backed up those words with as much consistent policy support as his has.”

The letter demonstrates the depth of the president's core conviction that all human life, at every stage of development, is sacred, Dr. Dobson added.

“His stance is a shot across the bow to congressional liberals who think their path to forcing taxpayers to fund abortion and destructive embryonic stem-cell research is now unimpeded since they are in the majority,” he said. “When it comes to any law that would endanger a human life, President Bush has made it clear: The buck will stop with him."

Dr. and Mrs. Dobson are in Washington, D.C., this week for observances of the National Day of Prayer.

Gary Schneeberger, senior media analyst for Focus on the Family Action, said the Dobsons were encouraged with all they’ve seen over the past few days.

“Not only was there excellent turnout by elected officials for National Day of Prayer events, but the president's bold moves on announcing his plans to veto the unnecessary hate-crimes bill and then sending this letter, give the Dobsons – and should give all of us – tremendous hope for the future.”

President to Reid, Pelosi: Vetoes for Any Pro-Abortion Legislation

President Bush sent identical letters to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi on Thursday making it absolutely clear to the pro-abortion Democrats that he will veto any legislation aimed at weakening pro-life policies or laws.

In the letter, the president said he wanted "to make sure that there is no misunderstanding of my views on these important issues."

TAKE ACTION: Call the White House and thank the President for his clear statement (below, or on PDF on the White House website HERE) on "Hate Crimes," and urge him to do the same against the freedom-crushing ENDA. Call the White House at 202-456-1414 or 202-456-1111, or write president@whitehouse.gov (the online comment page is HERE).

Also, call your U.S. Senators on the "Thought Crimes bill," H.R. 1592 at 202-224-3121 or by going to http://www.congress.org/ . On ENDA, you will need to call BOTH your Senators and your U.S. Representative, since ENDA hasn't been voted on in either chamber.

___________________________

Some bad news and some good news. The "Thought Crimes" bill, H.R. 1592, passed the House of Representatives yesterday 237-180, but the White House issued a strong statement against it indicating a likely presidential veto of the bill. Your calls to the White House made a difference! (AFTAH and then CWA led the way in publicly calling on President Bush to clarify his stance on Hate Crimes.)

Now we need to keep calling the White House to urge a similar promise to veto the "ENDA Our Freedom" bill (Employment Nondiscrimination Act) — which would force religious business owners with 15 or more employees to violate their conscience to accommodate homosexual and "transgender" agendas in the workplace. For talking points against ENDA, click HERE.

The Administration favors strong criminal penalties for violent crime, including crime based on personal characteristics, such as race, color, religion, or national origin. However, the Administration believes that H.R. 1592 is unnecessary and constitutionally questionable. If H.R. 1592 were presented to the President, his senior advisors would recommend that he veto the bill.

State and local criminal laws already provide criminal penalties for the violence addressed by the new Federal crime defined in section 7 of H.R. 1592, and many of these laws carry stricter penalties (including mandatory minimums and the death penalty) than the proposed language in H.R. 1592. State and local law enforcement agencies and courts have the capability to enforce those penalties and are doing so effectively. There has been no persuasive demonstration of any need to federalize such a potentially large range of violent crime enforcement, and doing so is inconsistent with the proper allocation of criminal enforcement responsibilities between the different levels of government. In addition, almost every State in the country can actively prosecute hate crimes under the State's own hate crimes law.

H.R. 1592 prohibits willfully causing or attempting to cause bodily injury to any person based upon the victim's race, color, religion, or national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability. The Administration notes that the bill would leave other classes (such as the elderly, members of the military, police officers, and victims of prior crimes) without similar special status. The Administration believes that all violent crimes are unacceptable, regardless of the victims, and should be punished firmly.

Moreover, the bill's proposed section 249(a)(1) of title 18 of the U.S. Code raises constitutional concerns. Federalization of criminal law concerning the violence prohibited by the bill would be constitutional only if done in the implementation of a power granted to the Federal government, such as the power to protect Federal personnel, to regulate interstate commerce, or to enforce equal protection of the laws. Section 249(a)(1) is not by its terms limited to the exercise of such a power, and it is not at all clear that sufficient factual or legal grounds exist to uphold this provision of H.R. 1592.

Manufacturing 'Hate': Yet Another Fake 'Hate Crime' Exposed, at Minn. State-Moorhead

By Peter LaBarbera

Strange, very strange. You might even say queer. Obviously, in the minds of some homosexual activists, the gap between how much actual (violent) "hate" exists and what they BELIEVE exists is so great that they feel the need to manufacture "antigay hate crimes" against themselves. Now, you say, sure, there are fringy "gay" zealots who do this sort of thing, just like there are nut jobs in every movement. Agreed. But these phony "hate crimes" keep surfacing, again and again and again — to the point where they are no longer freak occurrences but rather a symptom of a bankrupt ideology built upon a counterfeit foundation of "gay" victimhood.

The serious side of this, as we're debating federal "hate crimes" legislation, is that activists on the Left know they can get scads of police and media attention by crying "hate," and blaming their manufactured "crimes" on — you guessed it — religious conservatives. In Detroit, a homosexual man allegedly claimed (before his death) that he was attacked by someone yelling anti-gay slogans — and immediately Matt Foreman of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force issued a vicious statement blaming pro-family Michigan advocate Gary Glenn for the "murder." As it turned out, there was no "hate crime"; an autopsy revealed that the man, who had mental health problems, died of natural causes. (We're still waiting for the Task Force to apologize to Glenn. Ditto for the homosexual groups that years ago tried to blame Matthew Shepard's murder on pro-family groups that were running an ad campaign featuring "ex-gays.")

The Left – engulfed in its own brand of hatred toward wholesome, pro-family positions on abortion and homosexuality – may be going overboard in its crude attempts to manipulate the politics of "hate." Too bad it will probably take a few dozen more phone "hate crimes" for the liberal media to catch on that most of this "antigay" victimization is manufactured hype.

Here's the AP story on the fake "hate crime" at Minnesota State-Moorhead:

Gay rights march canceled after police say attack wasn't hate crime
MOORHEAD, Minn. (AP) — A gay rights group is canceling a planned rally on the Minnesota State University Moorhead campus.

This after police say a previously reported assault was not a hate crime.

The Fargo-Moorhead Ten Percent Society says it supports the decision of Moorhead police and it will be canceling it's march planned for Thursday night.

Edina native Paul Marquardt had reported that he was taunted for his sexual orientation and attacked by four men last week.

But Moorhead Deputy Police Chief Bob Larson says investigators heard a conflicting story.

So they interviewed Marquardt again and he said he didn't hear any anti-gay remarks and believes he was pushed down and injured by unknown assailants.

Guy Adams: HR-1592 and Beyond

Dear Colleagues and Associates,
Many of you may have these numbers re HR-1592 by now, but in case not, attached are the vote tallies and also the GOP Senators whom I consider “swing-voters” or who not yet announced their intentions re S-1105 (the current Senate version of HR-1592), or any other hate-bill in the current Senate season as of yet.
I suggest we target these key individuals rather than simply asking our supporters to call all their Senators. We pretty much know who will support the Senate version(s) of the hate bill, now known as S-1105, and who is opposed to it. We can surmise who is a swing-voter and who is a fence-straddler.
Strategy-wise, I suggest we focus our immediate efforts on the later two groups.
I also suggest that we urge our supporters to begin calling the White House to urge President Bush to veto the bill if it passes in both houses of Congress, as it probably will. The Senate has confidently said that it is certain that it has 64-65 votes; enough to pass.
Should it pass, we should motivate our supporters to urge President Bush to veto it as he said today (03 May 2007) that he would. I take him at his word, but we should not abandon the fight. Remember the loss re Roe v Wade and the promises that were unfulfilled. And remember how few bills Bush has actually vetoed. The stronger the opposition to S-1105, or whatever numeration it is eventually called by, the volume of moral-conservative action thrown against it will send a clear signal to the president, that overwhelmingly, Christian conservatives support his veto and the consequences thereof. That sends a powerful message that will resonate into 2008.
(BTW, in a different way, I suggest that we also target the traitors who are really Libs in GOP clothing after the storm has subsided to a degree. Internet tar & feathering?)

Daily Update - April 3, 2007: Dr. Dobson Applauds Bush's Pledge to Veto

Dr. Dobson Applauds Bush's Pledge to Veto
'Hate-Crimes' Bill

U.S. House passes legislation contradicting the 14th Amendment's guarantee of equal protection.

Dr. James Dobson said he's thankful President Bush has indicated he will veto the controversial and misleading "hate-crimes" bill that passed the U.S. House today.

"We applaud the president's courage in standing up for the Constitution and the principle of equal protection under the law," the founder and chairman of Focus on the Family Action said. "The American justice system should never create second-class victims, and it is a first-class act of wisdom and fairness for the president to pledge to veto this unnecessary bill."

The White House indicated it favors strong criminal penalties for violent crime directed at any individual, but considers H.R. 1592 "unnecessary and constitutionally questionable."

Pray For Oregon ... And The Nation

Prayer Banner
Pray for Oregon ... His People ... And The Nation
May 3, 2007

President George W. Bush has designated today, May 3, the 56th annual National Day of Prayer. A National Day of Prayer was officially established by an Act of Congress in 1952.

Father in heaven, creator of heaven and earth, and LORD of all, including all mankind, we humbly, and with subdued hearts, acknowledge Your wisdom, authority, perfections, and power, over your creation, and over our lives.

We acknowledge our sinfulness, and confess our fallen hearts are so easily swayed and duped by sin that we need your guiding hand and grace, your mercy and lovingkindness, every day.

Have mercy on us, sinners all, saved only through the shed blood of Him Who died for us, that we might be reconciled to You thorough simple childlike faith, and filled with your Holy Spirit and life abundant.

Forgive us LORD for not walking in righteousness before You and those around us who know you not. Forgive us LORD for not acknowledging the power of the Holy Spirit within us to demonstrate your redeeming love and life, that our neighbors might come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

And forgive us LORD for being silent when our courts have ruled wrongly, exalting sin when they should be upholding righteousness.

Forgive us LORD when we could have and should have exercised our blood bought freedoms to ensure righteousness in the halls of our government, for the protection of the people, and we did not.

Have mercy on us now, in this evil day. Open our eyes to see that your judgement is upon our nation as a result of our timidity and faithlessness, and the resultant exaltation of evil.

Deliver us now Oh LORD! Bring us to our knees once again as a people, that we might turn again to You, the Source of all blessing, the Giver of every good gift, the restorer of our souls.

Raise up men and women who fear you and not men, who walk before men in such holy anointing that your Spirit will not be denied, and your Will, established once again in America. In our Savior's Name we pray. Amen.

"Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness; who substitute bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!"

Isaiah 5: 20

"Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and clever in their own sight ... and take away the rights of the ones who are in the right!"

Prayerfully
David Crowe
