March 30, 2007

HB 3526 and SB 2 are not constructive bills and should not be passed by the Oregon Legislature. Both are morally, ethically, socially, educationally, economically, and constitutionally destructive. To Wit:

Morally & Ethically
They violate the Law of Conscience.
  • They suppress the Right of the people to make moral distinctions and to speak freely on those conscientiously held opinions and convictions.
  • They force churches and Christians to make a choice between unlawful human laws and the eternal moral laws of God, a choice that government should not impose and has never been authorized to impose.

They ignore and contradict God’s purposeful, natural, moral laws governing relationships between men and women; men with men; women with women; the sanctity of the traditional family, and the well being of children.

They ignore 5000 years of human history, social science, and medical research, by granting a right where no right exists, to protect and extend privileges to that which has for millennia been recognized as immoral and unhealthy behavior.

  • Sexual orientation is not like race nor like sex. It is a choice.
  • There is no valid scientific proof or evidence that it is inherited, only that it is acquired.
  • Why should a whole class of people have a legal right to impose that on others?
  • Adulterers and fornicators don't ask for - nor are they afforded any such rights.
  • Why should the homosexual, lesbian, bisexual, transgender community be given legal privileges that no one else has?

These bills state, shamelessly, that, "The purpose...is to ensure the human dignity of all people within this state and protect their health, safety and morality."

  • How do these bills protect our 'health' and 'morality'?
  • All research, including the Center for Disease Control, provide ample and unequivocal evidence that these behaviors entail serious disease and life threatening consequences.
  • And whose 'morality' do these bills protect?

Socially
These bills ignore and violate the natural right of parents to protect their children.

They ignore and disregard the entire body of research regarding the well being of children.

They demonstrate a preference for proven, dangerous, and unhealthy behavior.

Educationally
These bills violate the right of parents to determine what their children will be taught in public schools.

They demonstrate disregard for parental moral values and convictions.

Both bills state that, "The Legislative Assembly intends by this chapter to provide: (1) A program of public education calculated to eliminate attitudes..."

  • It is the responsibility of civil government to protect well recognized rights, not behaviors, and certainly not to engage in mind control by mandating 'a program of education calculated to eliminate attitudes' which most Americans clearly hold, and for good reason.

The Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice states that, "Students in public schools, as well as public colleges and universities, may not be discriminated against based on religion." Further, "Students also do not shed their right to religious expression at the schoolhouse gate."

Economically
The cost to the taxpayers for changes in 'public accommodations' alone would be enormous, not to speak of endless litigation, attorneys fees and further exodus from our public schools.

Constitutionally
Both of these bills suppress the right of the people to freedom of speech and association, the very things our Forefathers fought to preserve, and for which millions have died.

They elevate an unhealthy and life threatening behavior to a civil right, opening the door to any and every group who wish to justify their behavior, claiming a ‘civil right.’

  • No civil right is based on behavior.
  • The vast majority of Oregonians, and Americans, do not want a behavior, and certainly an immoral behavior, elevated to ‘Civil Right’ status.

Both bills put a judge in charge of deciding church employment matters, in clear violation of the Constitution and Federal Civil Rights Law which states, "religious institutions ... are permitted to preserve their religious character and autonomy through hiring and staffing decisions."

Summation

HB 3526 and SB 2 are not good for Oregonians morally, ethically, socially, educationally, economically or constitutionally, and therefore should not be passed. Passage will be seen by the majority of Oregonians as an unnecessary capitulation to a powerful, organized and vociferous minority by the granting of a non existent ‘right’. It will evidence the tragedy of what John Marshall, noted Supreme Court Chief Justice called, “local passions over sound public policy.”

On the above grounds, and all that is wise, we appeal to you, even implore you, to oppose these bills in their entirety. They are not good for the people of Oregon.

Letter of explaination about SB 2 aka HB 3526

Oregon SB 2, Granting Civil Right Status To Homosexuals, Lesbians, Bisexuals & Transgenders, Is Now HB 3526
HB 3526 actually had it's first reading on March 13 and was referred to Rules on March 20th. It was sponsored by Tina Kotek the well known lesbian activist from Portland. That was before SB 2 came out of the Senate. It is 26 pages long the same as SB 2 but not sure if it is identical but it does involve the same statutes so probably is. Not sure what games they are playing with all the different bills, eg: SB 500 and HB 3526 in addition to SB 2 and HB 2007 unless they are Plan B. I did not see that a hearing had been set as yet in the House for either bill. May we have the insight know what they are up to on these seemingly duplicate bills.

Stop tax funding of Planned Parenthood's abortion machines

Stop the National Abortion Push!
March 27, 2007 | Refer a Friend

Ever since last November's elections, which resulted in a pro-abortion leadership in both the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate, national abortion groups have boldly pushed an agenda of death - forcing taxpayers to pay for it! In 2005 Planned Parenthood got $272 million in our taxes, twice the money it made from its 255,000 abortions that year. Since 1987 Planned Parenthood has taken in $3.2 billion in taxpayer funds for its deadly agenda.

Now these groups want even more taxpayer funding for their death march. Just last Friday, Senator Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) sent a letter to her Senate colleagues asking for a boost of $100 million, specifically for Planned Parenthood clinics!

Even more reprehensible are the attacks on legitimate women's clinics, pregnancy care centers (PCCs), which protect the health of both the mother and the unborn child. Planned Parenthood and NARAL want to close these pregnancy care centers down. Currently, legislation in Oregon blatantly lists NARAL and Planned Parenthood as co-sponsors of a bill that targets pregnancy care centers for closure. We must send a message to these abortion profiteers that we've had enough!

Please e-mail the Oregon legislature and ask them to stop this taxpayer-funded, pro-abortion vendetta against legitimate clinics that help women in a time of need.

Stop the National Abortion Push!

Sincerely,

Tony Perkins
President

P.S. Please forward this email to at least one friend.

Status of SB 2 in Oregon House of Representatives

New Update Header
Status of SB 2, (granting civil right status to homosexuals) in the Oregon House of Representatives
March 26, 2007

On Wednesday, March 21st, The Oregon State Senate voted 21-7 in favor of Senate Bill 2 (SB2), a bill that if passed, will lead to suppression and criminalization of our rights as Christians to express or verbalize conscientiously held religious beliefs and convictions. In addition to granting a right, where no right exists, it purports to "protect" the "health, safety and morals" of the "inhabitants" of Oregon when in fact it does just the opposite.

House Judiciary Committee, or Rules Committee?
It was announced today to members of the Oregon House of Representatives that SB 2 has been referred to Speaker of the House Jeff Merkley's desk for assignment to either the Rules Committee or Judiciary Committee.

Please pray that Representative Merkley will assign it to the Judiciary Committee. It belongs there for the following reasons:

  • The bill has enormous legal ramifications for employers, public accommodations; churches; free speech and conscience issues; as well as education; not to speak of the ramifications for civil government itself.
  • If passed, there will be extensive and costly litigation that will place a considerable financial burden on taxpayers, government officials and government entities, including the Judiciary.
  • The judicial system will be embroiled with law suits between by two vastly different sets of values, beliefs, and convictions, brought into collision by an unwise legislature.

Take Action
Call Speaker Merkley's office directly at 503-986- 1200 or via the legislature's toll free number, 1-800-332- 2313, and ask the Speaker to assign the bill where it belongs, in the Judiciary Committee using one or more of the above reasons. You can also send an email to him at rep.jeffmerkley@state.or.us

Forward this email to your friends and pastor. Ask them to take action and forward this email to their friends, asking them to do the same.

Ask them to go to the Restore America website and subscribe to our Updates and Commentaries so they to can join us in opposing this bill, and others akin to it. We need a growing army of believers in Oregon whose voices ring in unison against bad bills and for good ones.

The Church-State Divide

Hello to all of our blog readers here is some news and information for you,
Gods blessings
T&T
The Church-State Divide

Freedom has allowed faith to flourish in America. But the proper relationship between church and state — including at places such as George Fox — is still a matter of debate.

George Fox senior Pisey Sok is denied a $3,000 grant from the state of Oregon because he majors in Christian ministries. A U.S. Supreme Court decision due by summer could make religion majors like Sok eligible.
When George Fox University senior Pisey Sok declared himself a Christian ministries major, he gave up his $3,000 Oregon Opportunity Grant. Sok could have studied biology or business and kept the annual award, but his desire to be a youth pastor cost him the grant. The Oregon state constitution bars state funds from being spent on religion.

A private donor has made up the difference in Sok's financial aid, but Mark Hall, associate professor of political science, sees Sok's loss as a violation of the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. Hall last summer signed a Friend-of-the-Court Brief to the U.S. Supreme Court in support of a Northwest College student who is challenging a similar law in the state of Washington. The case, Locke vs. Davey, was heard last month. A decision, perhaps by a 5-to-4 vote, is expected this summer. If the Washington law is ruled unconstitutional, similar constitutional provisions or laws in 36 other states — including Oregon — also will be overturned.

The Locke vs. Davey case follows several high-profile court battles over the volatile church-state relationship. Each side claims victories. The chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court recently was ousted for refusing to remove a Ten Commandments monument from a state building. In 2002, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled state-funded vouchers could be used to pay for tuition at religious schools. That same year, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled the phrase "under God" could not be included in teacher-led recitations of the Pledge of Allegiance in public schools.

"Pervasively Religious"
George Fox University has an interest in how the courts define the relationship between church and state. The Christian mission of George Fox has cost the school hundreds of thousands of dollars in state support. A 1982 American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) suit charged Oregon with violating its state constitution because it was providing aid to institutions that were "pervasively religious." At the time, Oregon private colleges received a stipend from the state for each Oregon student they educated. During the 1970s, George Fox received between $130,000 and $225,000 annually from the state. Because of its large number of Oregon students, George Fox was one of the biggest beneficiaries. "We were the primary institution they were after," says Don Millage, who was business manager at the time. George Fox initially resisted the suit, but it became obvious the case would hinge on the school's mission. "We admitted we were pervasively religious and let it go," says Millage.

One Powerful Phrase
One 16-word phrase has unleashed more than two centuries of church-state legal battles. It is found in the Bill of Rights, the first 10 amendments to the U.S. Constitution. The First Amendment begins "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof . . . ."

Pisey Sok (center) works with youth as an intern at First Baptist Church in Portland. Sok receives federal financial aid, but is denied state aid by the Oregon Constitution because he majors in religion.
The possibility of future Christian ministries majors receiving state grants depends upon how the Establishment Clause — the part of the sentence before the comma — and the Free Exercise Clause — the part after the comma — are interpreted by the Supreme Court.

"It was never really defined to anyone's satisfaction what 'establishment' meant," says former U.S. Sen. Mark Hatfield, who now teaches at George Fox as the Herbert Hoover Distinguished Professor. "We're going to wrestle with that until the Lord comes."

Banning National Religion
Professor Hall — the author or editor of three books on the topic, including the soon-to-be-released "The Founders on Faith and Civil Government" — says there are two major views on the Establishment Clause. One view interprets it to mean Congress cannot establish a national religion. This was a relatively new idea at the time. "Most countries, maybe all countries, would have had either established churches or very close connections between the state and the church," he says. The Lutheran Church in Germany, the Anglican Church in England, and the Roman Catholic Church in France all were state supported. Hall notes 11 of the 13 colonies supported established churches — the Anglican Church in the South and the Puritan and Congregational churches in the North. Since the First Amendment applied only to the federal government at the time, many states continued to fund and promote their churches after the amendment became law.

Those who argue for this view say that if the clause does more than ban a national church, it prohibits the government from favoring one religion or denomination over another. "For instance, it can't hire only Baptist chaplains for the military or fund only Roman Catholic schools," Hall says.

Strict Separation
The other major view of the Establishment Clause is that there should be strict separation between church and state. The ACLU and Americans United for the Separation of Church and State are high-profile advocates of strict separation, arguing that any government support for religion violates the amendment and threatens religious liberty. They have embraced President Thomas Jefferson's description of the Establishment Clause as creating a "wall of separation between church and state." The phrase — used in an 1802 letter to a group of New England Baptists — came to prominence in a 1940s church-state case and has been quoted often in recent court decisions.

Even today, one could argue the "wall of separation" isn't an accurate description of the current relationship between religion and government, since the state closes its offices for Christmas, hires military chaplains, exempts churches from taxes, and declares "In God We Trust" on its money. Rather than a "wall of separation," one judge jokingly called it a "sponge of separation."

"No Money ... for Religion"
It is the Oregon constitution that bars Sok from his grant. States are allowed to develop their own laws governing the church-state relationship as long as they don't violate the U.S. Constitution. Oregon and Idaho — the two states where George Fox offers classes — have more restrictive laws than the federal government. The Oregon constitution was adopted in 1859 with the mandate, "No money to be appropriated for religion." Hall says this and many of the other state laws barring aid to religious institutions were created by Protestant majorities to block government aid to Catholic schools.

Religious Discrimination
Several Supreme Court cases in recent years have moved the federal and state governments away from strict separation. Influenced by the First Amendment's Free Exercise and Free Speech clauses, the court has ruled states cannot discriminate against religion. For example, 10 years ago it ruled that non-religious and religious clubs must receive equal access to facilities.

"Evangelical religious expression owes its very existence to the concept of separation of church and state. ... It is in our direct interest to ensure that the state continues to remain distant from religious institutions."
— Robin Baker, provost, George Fox University
Hall believes this line of reasoning will carry over into Washington's Locke vs. Davey case. "No one is claiming that students studying religion or theology should be favored," he argues. "But Washington may not discriminate against students because they choose to major in Christian ministries, rather than physics." That equal treatment is why the federal government allows Sok, the religion major, to receive a $3,500 Pell Grant. The grant is available to any financially eligible student enrolled at an accredited institution, no matter the major.

The Legacy of the First Amendment
Despite the potential negatives of a strict interpretation of separation, Robin Baker, George Fox provost and professor of history, says evangelical Christians should be grateful for the First Amendment. With the end of the Congregational and Anglican religious monopolies, he says dissident groups such as the Baptists, Methodists, and Quakers were allowed to grow. "Evangelical religious expression owes its very existence to the concept of separation of church and state," he says. "Certainly the church would have found ways to reach people even in a society with a state church, but the nature of religious toleration in the United States provided an environment that enabled passionate men and women to convert thousands for the cause of Christ."

In this environment of religious freedom, colleges with Christian theological commitments — such as George Fox University — sprouted up across the nation. Today, more than 100 American colleges are members of the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities. Many of them could be affected by the upcoming Locke vs. Davey ruling and all certainly have an interest in the future of the church-state relationship. While many would probably like to see the state prohibitions on aid to religion overturned, they likely are even more adamant about protecting their ability to teach, operate, and worship as they feel Christ leading them. "It is in our direct interest to ensure that the state continues to remain distant from religious institutions," says Baker.

One thing seems certain: whatever decision the Supreme Court makes on the role of church and state in Locke vs. Davey, it will not silence the two-century-old debate.

2 Timothy 2:19:
"The Lord knows those who are his, and, "Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness."

1 Corinthians 6:9-10:

9 Dont you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Dont fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, 10 or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat peoplenone of these will inherit the Kingdom of God.

Those who live and practice a life of sin will not inherit the Kingdom of God irrespective of public opinion, political correctness, fancy labels shrouded with rainbows, or human rationalization. Furthermore, the Judeo/Christian community is committing a great injustice to those engaged in sin by embracing the wicked behavior under the guise of Alternative Lifestyle.

  • Without the truth of sin being revealed within the heart of a sinner, there is no conviction.

  • Without conviction there is no repentance.

  • Without repentance there is no forgiveness.

  • Without forgiveness there is no reconciliation.

  • Without reconciliation there is no salvation.

  • Without salvation the sinners destiny is eternal damnation.

It is NOT the ramblings of religious bigotry or homophobic retorts from right wing zealots that is at the center of controversy here. It is a reality that sin has no place in the presence of a righteous God. Let me illustrate this further.

The above mentioned scripture in 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 includes homosexual and heterosexual behavior as well. It also focuses on sexual sin, thievery, and those who are abusive. Therefore, embracing any of these sins as something other than what it truly is is unacceptable and heresy to the Judeo/Christian faith. Consider the following

Have you ever had a good friend caught up in an adulterous affair? Do you hate or want to harm that person engaged in sin? Absolutely NOT! Most likely you are disappointed and concerned. Although your friendship has not changed, it is strained by the bad behavior for you know that your friend is doing that which is wrong. Furthermore, to appease your friend, would you think about establishing an Adultery Pride Day event each year or try to establish national and corporate policies to support this behavior? Absolutely NOT!

Isaiah 47:10-11:

10 You have trusted in your wickedness
and have said, 'No one sees me.'
Your wisdom and knowledge mislead you
when you say to yourself,
'I am, and there is none besides me.'

11 Disaster will come upon you,
and you will not know how to conjure it away.
A calamity will fall upon you
that you cannot ward off with a ransom;
a catastrophe you cannot foresee
will suddenly come upon you.

This country is on the road towards Gods judgment as God turns his back on this nation as we have with him. When the devastation hits, it will take out the good and the wicked. The perfect storm is approaching from multiples sources and directions. However, this nation is too blinded by its sin to see the obvious. It is my hope and prayer that you will take this warning to heart for SIN is SIN and needs to be labeled accordingly.

HATE BILL EARLY WARNING SYSTEM: IT'S WORKING!

HATE BILL EARLY WARNING SYSTEM: IT'S WORKING!

By Rev. Ted Pike

Few things impact us as powerfully and lastingly as the laws made by our government. Yet there has been a chronic lack of warning to the American people of bad legislation about to pass. This includes the 3 federal thought crimes bills in Congress, now threatening our personal freedom. (See, Truthteller's Action Plan)

But this silence is being filled.

In mid November, the National Prayer Network sounded the alarm that, with Democrats controlling Congress, the federal hate bill would surely be introduced and passed. The response was stunning. In just 3 days, more than 8000 visitors from www.rense.com linked to www.truthtellers.org and printed our brochure, "Anti-Hate Laws Will Make You a Law Breaker!" These brochures dispersed like seeds in the wind to Congress and around the country. Many thousands more have since been printed and distributed.

This strong moral protest came primarily from "far right" listeners to alternative talk radio and the internet. Unfortunately, the vastly greater population of conservatives and Christian evangelicals remained virtually oblivious to the hate bill threat. In fact, in mid February, 6 weeks after the federal hate bill "David's Law," H.R. 254, had been introduced, our survey of 10 of the largest new right organizations revealed most had either no article warning of the hate bill or only modest statements, usually buried from public view. None dramatized the hate bill threat with enough urgency to rouse evangelicals into a fighting machine that could defeat this massive Democrat-sponsored legislation.

NPN's Agent behind Evangelical Lines

Enter Guy Adams, previous national deputy grassroots director and writer for Alan Keyes and his organization, Renew America. 1 Adams, a former bodyguard for Barack Obama and Alan Keyes, is the friend or acquaintance of most new right leaders. About a year ago he visited truthtellers.org and was electrified by our presentation of hate law dangers. In many conversations over the past year, I have helped educate him concerning hate law origins, theory, and consequences. Throughout this winter he emailed my hate laws flyer and other alerts to his 8000-member mailing list and worked overtime to awaken the new right. To everyone he recommends truthtellers.org.

Yet 6 weeks after H.R. 254 was introduced, it seemed like all Guy's behind-the-scene efforts were not producing much action. When NPN could find no hate bill alert on American Family Association's website, I told Guy, who knows Rev. Don Wildmon, that he must warn Wildmon immediately. Guy discovered that, just like leaders of most new right organizations, Wildmon and his son knew nothing of a hate bill in Congress! That quickly changed as AFA visited truthtellers.org and emailed a powerful warning to their 3 million members. They inspired an estimated 2 million communications of protest to Congress.

Focus on the Family Warns of Conyers' Threat

Soon after, Guy and I held a 3-way discussion with Amanda Banks, legal analyst for Dr. James Dobson. She told us of Rep. Conyers' likely plan to use H.R. 254 as a "decoy" to absorb hate bill criticism. After it had served its purpose, she said, he would insert his longer stiffer version of the bill (H.R. 2662, which passed the House in the previous Congress) and shoot it forward to passage in the House.

Banks said Dr. Dobson was afraid if he immediately called for protest against H.R. 254 that when Conyers introduced his longer bill, protest from the religious right would be exhausted. I urged her that NOW was the time to join AFA and mount an attack. I reminded her that in the previous Congress the hate bill passed in only 45 minutes! Banks said she would convey my concern to Dr. Dobson. The next day Focus on the Family called for massive protest.

For the past month, lovers of freedom have watched the House Judiciary Committee intently to see if Conyers would reintroduce his Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act (LLEHCPA, now H.R. 1592).

Last Tuesday the Anti-Defamation League, architect of hate laws worldwide, announced it had happened. On Wednesday my e-alert was sent to all major new right organizations. I also called Guy, who immediately contacted such groups as AFA and Renew America even before my e-alert arrived.

Within half a day, AFA again alerted its 3 million members. Within a few days, alerts against Conyers' bill appeared on the websites of Traditional Values Coalition, Renew America and Focus on the Family.

WorldNetDaily Alerts Nation

The quickness of these organizations to heed my call to action is largely a result, I believe, of credibility our efforts gained from CNS News Service and, even more, WorldNetDaily. In 3 recent articles WND quoted me extensively. Their most recent article heightened the national drama of Conyers' projected attempt to "pull a fast one" on the American people.

Their stories may also have influenced national Christian/conservative talk show host Janet Folger to invite me last Thursday to help explain the hate bill threat on her syndicated show Faith2Action. For a dynamic hour, Folger and I vivified the hate bill threat to a very large evangelical Christian audience. She broadcasts on 27 radio markets, plus internet, and features 1-minute commentary on 70 stations. ( Listen to Ted Pike and Janet Folger.)

About a year ago I became aware of Folger when she debated the abortion issue at ultraliberal Reed College near us in Portland, Oregon. A group of college students from my congregation, including writer Harmony Grant, heard her and were very impressed by this attractive and formidable bearcat of a Christian/conservative apologist. They talked with her afterward and added her to our e-list. I was grateful when she told me on the air that she reads our e-alerts. She now links Faith2Action ( www.f2a.org) to www.truthtellers.org, as we link to her.

Certainly, Folger is more passionate and unrelenting in opposition to the hate bill than any other new right leader. She features repeated dynamic broadcasts against hate laws that educate her audience and generate countless calls to Congress. She has produced several gripping infomercials featuring two of the grandmothers from the Philly 11, who tell of their imprisonment for preaching the Gospel. They warn that federal hate bill H.R. 1592 will bring persecution to America. Janet is in a fundraising drive to air these one-minute spots on Fox Television, a very expensive but worthy project, bringing criticism of the hate bill to millions. I urge you to contribute at www.f2a.org.

Please take action ASAP--here's the text of the first part of SB 776, which is based on myth, lies, and slander ("misinforming and misleading women"..."capitlizing on their patients confusion..." :
Senate Bill 776

Sponsored by Senators DEVLIN, BROWN, Representative ROSENBAUM;
Senators AVAKIAN, PROZANSKI, WALKER, Representatives BARKER,
BONAMICI, KOTEK, NOLAN, TOMEI (at the request of Planned
Parenthood Advocates of Oregon, NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon)

SUMMARY

The following summary is not prepared by the sponsors of the
measure and is not a part of the body thereof subject to
consideration by the Legislative Assembly. It is an editor's
brief statement of the essential features of the measure as
introduced.

Requires Department of Human Services to collect data and study
'alternative-to-abortion organizations' in Oregon and report
findings to Legislative Assembly by December 31, 2008.

A BILL FOR AN ACT
Relating to study of alternative-to-abortion organizations; and
appropriating money.
Whereas 'alternative-to-abortion organizations,' also called
'crisis pregnancy centers,' misinform and mislead women to deter
or to delay them from having abortions; and
Whereas there are 51 alternative-to-abortion organizations or
crisis pregnancy centers operating in Oregon; and
Whereas some crisis pregnancy centers intentionally choose
their names to mislead women into believing that the centers
offer a wide range of family planning and abortion care when they
do not; and
Whereas in order to confuse their clients and capitalize on
their patients' confusion, crisis pregnancy centers design their
facilities to look like health care facilities and locate the
facilities near clinics that offer family planning and abortion
care; and
Whereas many crisis pregnancy centers not only mislead women
about abortion care but also will not provide information about
birth control; now, therefore,
Be It Enacted by the People of the State of Oregon:

Take Action: Pregnancy Resource Centers Under Attack

by Wendy Cloyd, assistant editor

Your immediate assistance could help protect pro-life counseling centers in Oregon from a state Senate bill that would silence them.

Pro-abortions groups Planned Parenthood of Oregon and NARAL Pro-Choice of Oregon are pushing a bill that could ultimately be used to shut down pro-life pregnancy-resource centers in the state.

Under SB 776, the Department of Human Services (DHS) would be required to collect and study data on all aspects of the state's pregnancy-resource centers (PRCs). It would establish a toll-free number and online complaint form for the DHS to track and investigate complaints against PRCs.

The legislation presumes that PRCs are using "deceitful" tactics to "mislead" and manipulate women into choosing life over abortion. Some PRCs are health clinics that offer counseling and ultrasound imaging. DHS would also examine the religious affiliations and counseling methods used by PRCs.

=

Carrie Gordon Earll, senior director, issue analysis at Focus on the Family Action, said the legislation is evidence that PRCs have hurt the abortion clinics' bottom line. Every woman who chooses life for her preborn child represents decreased revenue for the abortion clinics.

Abortion clinics also don't want PRCs competing with them for federal dollars, Earll said.

"Even though the pro-abortion groups have been feeding at the public trough for years, they don't want organizations that are providing pro-life alternatives to remain open, much less receive even a penny of funding," she said. "This is clearly the first step in an attempt to shut down Oregon's PRCs and deny women true choice in making decisions about unplanned pregnancies."

Pastors Day at the Capitol

Please see the attached word document which describes the event on April 5th in Salem . SB 2 which has passed the Oregon Senate and is now on its way to the House, will compromise churches and ministries from operating by a biblical worldview. It will elevate peoples sexual orientation, guys, lesbians, bi-sexuals, and transgenders, to a special class of citizenship, in effect, forcing all organizations not only to respect them but now value there lifestyle as well. As Christians, we love people of all sexual orientation, but it is not ok to have to value there lifestyle anymore then we should have to value any other type of sinful behavior.

Capitol Switchboard Directory: 800-332-2313, call the Capitol operator and they can connect you to your representative.

Forward this on to your pastors and join me on April 5th in carpooling over to Salem to attend the event. Our representatives need to hear a unified voice coming from body of Christ in opposing SB 2.

Email from Oregon Family Council:
Hello Stephen,

I wanted to let you know about the latest project Oregon Family Council is working on to oppose SB 2. While we are doing our best to communicate our concerns with SB 2 - particularly related to the poor religious exemption, which does not include non-sectarian religious organizations - we believe that the greatest impact to fix the exemption is pastors and religious leaders visiting with their elected representatives personally to express their concersn.

To that end, we are promoting a "Pastors and Religious Leaders Day at the Capitol." We are hoping that leaders from all parts of Oregon's religious community will take the time to meet with other leaders and their representatives. We have planned the event for Thursday April 5.
We are currently preparing a letter to be mailed to a broad list of religious leaders, particularly the 1800 churches that Oregon Family Council communicates with on a regular basis. Our hope is that the letter is signed by a diverse group of pastors and religious leaders, including you.

I have attached the letter, and included those who to this point will be signing. Because we are pulling this event together so quickly, we will need to have the invitation in the mail by tomorrow afternoon, and so would need your approval and a fax or email copy of your signature by Friday morning.

As you probably know, Rep. Chuck Burley, who represents Bend, will be a key vote on this issue. We hope that you will not only be able to sign the letter, but also attend the event, and bring pastors or church leaders from Bend with you. Rep. Burley needs to hear from churches in his district about the necessity of a strong religious exemption!

Please do let me know if you have questions, and if you will be able to sign the letter. Your help is much appreciated!

Blessings,
Betsy Maynard

Please go to the following web site and download this Easter lesson for kids in public schools. It was produced from our friends at Gateways to a Better Education:
Easter Lesson Plan

Designed like pages from a textbook, this lesson is easy to use with students. It paraphrases the story of the death and resurrection of Jesus as told by Luke. It highlights phrases commonly used in the English language, and it shows the story's relevance to history, art, music, and language arts.

It includes valuable tips on how to teach about religion objectively. It also includes a "For Parents and Educators" information page that will help alleviate concerns some parents or administrators may have about the appropriateness of this lesson.

"The crooked roads shall become straight, the rough ways smooth."

(This is an approximately weekly email list for ways Christians can engage culture. To unsubscribe, simply reply to this email and I'll remove you from the list.)

Each week, we'll be sending out 4 or 5 suggestions on ways Christians can engage our culture in upholding a biblical worldview . Our focus will be on social and political issues. We assume that you all are already doing things that Christians are called to do in the area of discipleship (daily prayer, scripture reading, and other acts of individual devotion, serving others, meeting regularly with other believers, caring for the "least" in our society, etc.) Our desire is to challenge Christians to examine where our culture has come from and impact where it is headed. Many organizations are effectively ministering in the area of apologetics, evangelism, healing, and serving, among others. However, there are fewer ministries helping Christians engage an increasingly hostile culture. Prepare the Way serves Christians by informing them where a biblical worldview is under attack in public schools and society, why we are at risk, what our rights are in the public arena and how we can take action to uphold a biblical worldview in our culture. As always, before taking any action, we must seek the Lord and ask for His guidance in how He wants to us for His glory.

State police take children from parents. Their crime? They were home s chooling their daughter.

Donald E. Wildmon
Founder and Chairman

March 23, 2007

Please help us get this information into the hands of as many people as possible by forwarding it to your entire email list of family and friends.

State police take children from parents. Their crime? They were home schooling their daughter.

Please stand for the God-given right of these parents to freely educate their children as their conscience dictates.

This letter is slightly longer than what I usually write. But I beg you to please read all of it.

How would you feel if a group of 15 fully armed police officers walked into your home, grabbed your 15-year-old daughter, and left without telling you where they were taking her? Not only that, but you soon found out that your daughter was being arrested because she was being home schooled, and she would not be allowed to come home until she was placed in a public school!

This is already a reality for some families —not in America— but in Germany. Melissa Busekros of Erlangen, Bavaria, was taken from her parents, Hubert and Gudrun Busekros. Why worry about this if it isn't in America? Because America is becoming like Europe more and more. Not only that, but here are two families who have nearly no hope that the government will listen to them. I don't like saying this because it seems so extreme, but if we continue on the way we are going this will be happening in America, unless we work to stop it now.

Using the same law, police recently took five "well-educated" children from their parents for the same reason. Police took into legal custody Rosine, Jotham, Kurt-Simon, Lovis and Ernst Brause, the children of Bert and Kathrin Brause. The state will not allow Bert and Kathrin to regain custody of their children unless they agree to place them in a public school.

The judge concluded that the children were well-educated but accused the parents of failing to provide their children with an education in a public school. The judge noted that one of the daughters expressed the same opinions as her father, stating that they have not had the chance to develop "independent personalities!"

Please take the following quote in context. I'm not trying to be an extremist, but a realist. One of the first acts by Adolf Hitler when he gained power in Germany was to create the governmental Ministry of Education and give it control of all schools and school-related issues. In 1937, Hitler said: "This Reich stands, and it is building itself up for the future, upon its youth. And this Reich will give its youth to no one, but will itself take youth and give to youth its (the state's) own education and its own upbringing."

Take Action

1. Please send the e-mail to German officials who have the ability to right this wrong. Your email will be sent to Germany's president and key decision making officials. It will include your name and email address only.

2. Please forward this letter to family and friends and ask them to help these two families in Germany get their children back.

A Urgent Call To Action

Rights of Churches, Religious Organizations and Private Schools under Serious Attack

Dear Fellow Pastor and Religious Leader,

Never in our nation’s 230 year history have religious freedoms faced so serious a threat as the one currently in the Oregon Legislature. Legislative leaders in Salem are dismantling one of America’s most fundamental liberties, the right to religious expression, in an effort to appease an extreme special interest group. We believe it is imperative that pastors and other religious leader respond now!

Rest assured, the signers of this letter are not alarmist or political activists. We are pastors and religious leaders just like you. But when an overt and aggressive threat against our right to freely worship God is being fast-tracked through the Oregon legislature, we feel compelled to respond. We hope as you read the following information, you will agree to join us.

Pastors and Religious Leaders Day at the Capitol

          Thursday, April 5th, 11:30 am

          Salem Evangelical Church

          455 Locust NE, Salem, OR

On this day, we are asking senior and staff pastor, elders, board members and leaders of private schools and religious ministries to join us for a special meeting in Salem. Our intent is through a unified expression of concern to reason with elected officials and urge them to honor the fundamental religious freedoms that have always characterized this nation.

Because of limited meeting rooms and parking at the Capitol, attendees will gather at Salem Evangelical Church, enjoy a lunch and informative briefing and then be shuttled over to the capital on charter buses. Meetings with your legislative leaders in your area will be pre-scheduled to take place between 1:00 - 3:00 pm.

How To Register

To reserve a place for yourself and other staff pastors or leaders, simply return the coupon enclosed with this letter. You can also register online at www.pastorday.com or call 503-257-0444. (We’re working with the Oregon Family Council to help facilitate the day’s activities. Registration will help them schedule appointments and prepare lunches.)

How Senate Bill 2 Poses a Threat to Religious Freedom

The threat to religious freedom stems from Senate Bill 2. This bill grants minority protection to gays, lesbians, bi-sexuals and transgender individuals. It includes affirmative action provisions and requires a statewide program of publican education. The inclusion of transgender individuals in the bill also open the door for problems concerning restrooms, locker rooms and other gender specific areas of public accommodation.

Religious Exemption Falls Short

For many Oregonians, much of the above is troubling. But the most extreme aspect of Senate Bill 2 is its very limited exemption for churches. The religious exemption “applies only if the employment, housing or the use of the facilities is closely connected with or related to the primary purpose of the church...” (Areas in quotes taken directly from SB2).

In other words, while a church could choose not to hire a homosexual pastor, a church could not deny employment to a gay janitor or staff at what could be considered more secular positions. Organizations that open their facilities to the public as a community service may be required to open them to homosexual gatherings on the same basis. Private religious schools and other religious organizations would have no exemption at all, even though they may have strong moral policies in place for all of their employees.

To make matters worse, if a church was suspected of violating this law, a court would define what is the primary purpose of the church, not church leaders.

We’ve included a variety of supporting documentation in this packet, including an analysis from a prominent law firm, which specializes in First Amendment issues as it relates to religious organizations. We encourage you to review these materials. You can also access a copy of Senate Bill 2, using the lobby resources page at www.pastorday.com which passed the Senate on Wednesday, March 21 by a vote of 21-7.

Naturally, all of these materials were presented to Senate leaders and in public testimonies regarding this bill. These concerns were more than ignored, they were actually scoffed at. One State Senator repeatedly suggested during the public hearing on Senate Bill 2 that religious freedom should be eliminated altogether.

This is no time to be silent. Please join us on April 5th as we stand together to preserve religious liberties. We look forward to hearing from you.

"Jamming" Still used today.

"Name Withheld"
Also, according to reports on some blogs, approximately $3,000,000 was spent in Oregon by outside sources to push these measures through. $2,000,000 from Enron alone. Isn't this info available in the Freedom of Information Act so we could see how these dollars were spent and if and who the monies went to? You can buy a lot with that much money. Would you check with Nick Graham re this?

"Jamming"

Jamming means, simply, smearing anyone who disagrees with their agenda. “Jam homohatred [i.e., opposition to homosexuality] by linking it to Nazi horror,” urge Kirk and Madsen; associate all detractors with images like “Klansmen demanding that gays be slaughtered,” “hysterical backwoods preachers,” “menacing punks,” and a “tour of Nazi concentration camps where homosexuals were tortured and gassed.” -----Link below

SELLING HOMOSEXUALITY

http://www.boundless.org/2001/regulars/kaufman/a0000605.html

Psychological warfare ‘jamming’ technique seeks to instill doubt in minds of pro-family persons.

LifeSiteNews.com and Pro-family Groups Subject to Intimidation from Gay Rights Leaders:

Toronto, May 3, 2004 LifeSiteNews.com Since the passage into Canadian law last week of the homosexual hate crime Bill C-250, LifeSiteNews.com and other pro-family groups in Canada have been subject to some intimidating communications from homosexual activists. The emails, and ones received over the last few years from other activists, bear a similar slant, all suggesting LifeSiteNews.com, by [its] reporting news on the homosexual issue that balances the mainstream media’s bias, is ‘hateful’ and out of touch with the rest of the world.

The tactic is a well known psychological warfare technique known as ‘jamming.’

One email received the day C-250 was passed into law, was sent to homosexual activist leaders in Canada and purposely forwarded to LifeSiteNews.com, Focus on the Family Canada, and REAL Women Canada. In it Mark Hanlon, Director, External Issues at the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgendered group at the Memorial University of Newfoundland, wrote:

"These right winged, conservatives are teaching these same messages to their children for the good of society and for the good of morals and ethics. Let's get this one thing straight to all you Conservative groups - your children's attitudes, if they inherit these beliefs from you, will be in a minority down the road. You are setting them on a dangerous path of intolerance and hate. Stop this path - before the world of tomorrow judges them and, thanks to this bill, prisons or fines them. Crimes of hate against the LBGT community will be treated equally with anti-Semitism, and anti-African Canadian hate crimes."

Described years ago by Dr. Charles Socarides in “Thought Reform And The Psychology of Homosexual Advocacy”, jamming used by homosexual advocates seeks to instill doubt in the minds of pro-family leaders as to the correctness in their belief in the abnormality of homosexuality. This is done by oft-repeated but unfounded accusations of hateful speech and un-Christian-like conduct, and the equally unfounded assertion that pro-family positions are held by only an insignificant minority of society. (see Dr. Socarides work here:
http://www.leaderu.com/orgs/narth/1995papers/socarides.html )

In his article “Selling Homosexuality,” prolific family issues writer Matt Kaufman reveals that

“Harvard-trained social scientists Marshall Kirk and Hunter Madsen … in the late ‘80s issued a call for gay activists to adopt "carefully calculated public relations propaganda." Kaufman explains that included in that campaign was “jamming,” which he writes “means, simply, smearing anyone who disagrees with their agenda.”

Prominent US columnist Cal Thomas is quoted by the US website, People for the Way, Truth and Life, [as] having said, “Gay-rights groups are experienced intimidators. They feverishly oppose discussion about people who have come out of same-sex relationships and slander those who manage to get through their jamming system, saying people who abandon homosexuality weren't "really" homosexual in the first place.”
http://myweb.ecomplanet.com/TPFT8634/mycustompage0101.htm

In a recent email to LifeSiteNews.com, someone identifying him/herself only as ‘The Watcher’ says, “I …. was shocked to discover that there are actually organizations like yours in Canada, hiding hate behind a mask of religion.”

THE WORD “HATE” TRANSFORMED

The word ‘hate’ has been unilaterally redefined by gay activists to refer to opposing views or even facts related to homosexuality that must be censored. The email continued, “Actually, I'm glad I found you. I would appreciate it if you could supply me with a list of organizations that you know of that represent discrimination to its fullest. That way, I'll be able to keep an eye on everyone to ensure that Canada's hate laws are not infringed upon.”

In an email referencing the supposed protection for religious groups against hate crime prosecution, someone identifying himself as H. (Bart) Vincelette from Vancouver B.C. said, “You are not a religion recognized by the federal gov't, and therefore are subject to the scrutiny of those who believe in obeying the law of the land . . . I thought you might appreciate a friendly reminder that no one is exempt from the laws governing civility in Canada.”

Finally, emails from Lynn Harrington, an active member of the list-serve of the homosexual activist group EGALE (Equality for Gays and Lesbians Everywhere) has for over a year emailed notes to LifeSiteNews.com similar to this one received last month: “Lifesite, Here is something for you to think about in your homo-hating little world.”

Another example of jamming - no tolerance, no reasoned dialogue, strong use of emotion and intimidation, false accusations. Historically, it sounds very familiar.

See Kaufman’s “Selling Homosexuality”

Letter from Pregnancy Care Centers

Hello All:
Please act on this letter from the Pregnancy Care Centers Executive Director Judy Pierce.

Dear Friend of Life,

Pregnancy support centers across our state are under an unwarranted attack at the request of NARAL (National Abortion Rights Action League) and Planned Parenthood. We need your help today! The decision about SB 776 could be decided on any day, therefore it is urgent that you take action now! This legislation is an attempt to silence the advocates for life. The ultimate goal is to close the doors of any organization that would oppose abortion. Please read some of the language of this bill:

"Whereas 'alternative-to-abortion organizations', also called 'Crisis Pregnancy Centers', misinform and mislead women to deter or to delay them from having abortions..."

"Whereas some crisis pregnancy centers intentionally choose their names to mislead women..."

"Whereas many crisis pregnancy centers not only mislead women about abortion care but also will not provide information about birth control..."

The bill in question is Senate Bill 776. You can read the entire bill by going to this website:

http://www.leg.state.or.us/07reg/measures/sb0700.dir/sb0776.intro.html

Next, please take a moment to contact Senate President Peter Courtney and urge him to use his considerable power to stop this unnecessary legislation against Crisis Pregnancy Centers (suggested text below)**

Courtney's email address is: sen.petercourtney@state.or.us and his phone number is: 503-986-1600

You can reach both you House Representative and your own Senator by using the following link. You don't even need to know their names: http://www.leg.state.or.us/writelegsltr/

If you want to call your State Senator and don't have their contact information, you can use this link to find it: http://www.leg.state.or.us/findlegsltr/

We are suggesting a couple of ways that you could help us. First write a simple letter such as the one below and make copies. Ask friends, family, neighbors or anyone that may be willing to sign a copy including their address. Collect these right away and ask for a contribution of 39 cents for postage. Mail each letter in a separate envelope. The more volume of mail received the more impact it will have. PLEASE put them in the mail immediately AND/OR ask them to email or phone Peter Courtney TODAY!!

Matthew 10:16 says, "Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves..." We can be assured that God is sovereign and His authority is over those in government. Isaiah 54:17 says, "No weapon formed against you will prosper, and every tongue that accuses you in judgment you will condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their vindication is from Me," declares the LORD.

God is our defense. Be firm but be polite. A sample correspondence would look like this:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Senator,

SB 776 is an unwarranted attack on facilities that care for women in need. Crisis Pregnancy Centers provide documented, factual information regarding abortion, adoption and parenting to their clients. This truly enables them to make a fully informed choice. I urge you to do everything within your power to defeat this unnecessary and destructive legislation.

Very truly yours,
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I know this is a long email and a lot of information, however, if we stand by and do nothing we will not be diligent in our work to defend the lives of the unborn. We also must always keep in mind the many women and men who desperately need to hear the whole truth concerning abortion.

God bless you in your efforts!

Sincerely,

Judy Pierce

Update on Oregon SB 776

Hello All:
Here is some information for you concerning Oregon SB 776
Praise the lord !!!
Although it is a bit of a skirmish, it could still come back but we hope not,
Gods blessings
T&T

Dear All You Wonderful PRC Directors/Lobbyists,
I just had to say again, how proud of you I am. You respectfully provided the Legislators with the right evidence that revealed the bogus concerns listed in SB 776 and God moved. Yippee....
REALITY CHECK
Now, having said that. It's time for a reality check.
We've won a skirmish, but not necessarily the war on this attack against you.
While SB 776, as written, is probably dead this bill can be rewritten and amended.
Furthermore, according to Oregon Right to Life (ORTL), they reminded us that whereas. SB 776 is in the Rules Committee, this committee is exempt from the other deadlines and restrictions placed on other committees. This means that at anytime before the end of session the bill could be resurrected. (You can see how powerful the Rules Committee is and why we must stay alert.)
The good news is that ORTL and our partners in the Legislature will keep a close eye on it for us.
Senator Atkinson's office is our primary Legislative resource at this time as he is working in close harmony with ORTL and the PRC team. ORTL appears to have the kind of experience we need in legislative processes and we are grateful for their leadership in this.
ANOTHER REALITY CHECK
If past perfomance is an indicator of future behavior, Planned Parenthood will NOT give up on the effort to discredit you. PP does not roll over easily. They will use what happened this week to assess our strengths and weaknesses and to plan their next strategy accordingly.
ALSO, please remember that legislation is not required to investigate your operations.
According to ORTL, there are other paths they could take to harass you such as through the Governor's office or a policy committee could hold a hearing. However, ORTL believes that this probably wouldn't happen during session, but there are interim committees.
Bottomline, we can and should rejoice. Give yourself permission to bask in the sun of victory. But we must also continue to be vigilant. We are not out of the woods yet.

Representative Nelson Opposes House Bill 2700

SALEM – Oregon State Representative Donna Nelson (R-McMinnville) today filed an explanation of vote on House Bill 2700. Her statement for the record appears below.

___

I write today to explain the reasons for my vote in opposition to House Bill 2700 on March 15, 2007. While I support the use of prescription birth control as a form of contraception, and recognize that available contraception will reduce unwanted pregnancies—and therefore reduce abortion—a number of flaws with House Bill 2700 made it impossible to support.

The definition of “emergency contraception” included in the bill is dangerously vague. The definition is “a drug or device that is approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration to prevent pregnancy after sexual intercourse.” Nothing in this definition restricts use of emergency contraception to a specific time period following intercourse. Nor does the definition strictly limit emergency contraception to a treatment that prevents conception from taking place. This vagueness could result in requiring health care providers to give treatment outside the scope of legislative intent. Any treatment performed after conception affects not just the patient, but also the human embryo growing within. Because of this vagueness, I could not support House Bill 2700.

Furthermore, House Bill 2700 includes a requirement that a “student health insurance policy” provide coverage or reimbursement for prescription contraceptives. Student health insurance policies are intended to provide medical insurance to college and university students who do not otherwise have available health care. However, not everyone attending college or university is over the age of 18. House Bill 2700 could require the dispensing of prescription contraception to children under the age of 18. This is incompatible with public policy and laws concerning sexual intercourse with minors. Sexual intercourse with a minor under age 18 is statutory rape, and is illegal in Oregon. I believe that House Bill 2700, by allowing minors to obtain prescription contraception, would amount to a state endorsement of sexual intercourse by children under the age of 18. Because I believe my duty as a State Representative is to protect our children and uphold the law, I could not support House Bill 2700.

Finally, House Bill 2700 is an unfunded mandate on health insurance providers. Unfunded mandates increase costs to consumers. Presently, employers can choose to offer employees health insurance plans that offer coverage for contraception. Likewise, individuals are free to obtain private health insurance plans of their own. Ultimately, every person can choose to purchase contraceptive drugs and devices out-of-pocket. The ability to choose which benefits will comprise a health insurance plan results in the lowest possible cost to the consumer. House Bill 2700 would take the power of choice away from the people. The net effect of the bill might help one segment of the population afford contraception, but would at the same time make the overall cost of health care more for all Oregonians. While I support more available and accessible contraception, a mandate that places a burden on health insurance providers is not the answer.

For all these reasons, I voted NAY on House Bill 2700.

U.S. judge blocks 1998 online porn law

Hello All
This has got to stop!!!
We as a Christian community and a conservative people, need to stand against this Judicial Tyranny. Many Conservative speakers have spoken of this before, but have we really taken this to heart, or have we just rolled over and said that someone else will do it.
Well, we ask if not you, who?
Who will stand with the majority who are asleep at the switch?

Read this article from today....

By MARYCLAIRE DALE, Associated Press Writer Thu Mar 22, 5:30 PM ET

PHILADELPHIA - Software filters work much better than a 1998 federal law designed to keep pornography away from children on the Internet, a federal judge ruled Thursday in striking down the measure on free-speech grounds.

Senior U.S. District Judge Lowell Reed Jr. also said the Child Online Protection Act fails to address threats that have emerged since the law was written, including online predators on social-networking sites like News Corp.'s MySpace, because it targets only commercial Web publishers.

"Even defendant's own study shows that all but the worst performing (software) filters are far more effective than COPA would be at protecting children from sexually explicit material on the Web," said Reed, who presided over a monthlong trial in the fall.

Oregon Biology Teacher Fired Over Bible References

Tuesday , March 20, 2007

SISTERS, Ore. —
During his eight days as a part-time high school biology teacher, Kris Helphinstine included Biblical references in material he provided to students and gave a PowerPoint presentation that made links between evolution, Nazi Germany and Planned Parenthood.

That was enough for the Sisters School Board, which fired the teacher Monday night for deviating from the curriculum on the theory of evolution.

"I think his performance was not just a little bit over the line," board member Jeff Smith said. "It was a severe contradiction of what we trust teachers to do in our classrooms."

Helphinstine, 27, said in a phone interview with The Bulletin newspaper of Bend that he included the supplemental material to teach students about bias in sources, and his only agenda was to teach critical thinking.

"Critical thinking is vital to scientific inquiry," said Helphinstine, who has a master's degree in science from Oregon State. "My whole purpose was to give accurate information and to get them thinking."

Helphinstine said he did not teach the idea that God created the world. "I never taught creationism," he said. "I know what it is, and I went out of my way not to teach it."

Parent John Rahm told the newspaper that he became concerned when his freshman daughter said she was confused by the supplemental material provided by Helphinstine.

"He took passages that had all kinds of Biblical references," Rahm said. "It prevented her from learning what she needed to learn."

Board members met with Helphinstine privately for about 90 minutes before the meeting. The teacher did not stay for the public portion.

"How many minds did he pollute?" Dan Harrison, the father of a student in Helphinstine's class, said at the meeting. "It's a thinly veiled attempt to hide his own agenda."

Urgent! Full Senate to Vote on SB 2!

Oregon Senate Vote on SB 2 Wednesday!

On Wednesday morning the full Senate will vote on SB 2, which will grant special minority status protections to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals.

Please call your legislators and let them know that you're opposed to Senate Bill 2. Click Here to find your State Senator and State Representative. find your State Senator and State Representative.

The bill contains an inadequate religious exemption, and organizations such as churches, rescue missions or private schools could be legally forced to hire people based on their sexual orientation.

What's worse, the bill ultimately leaves it up to a judge to decide the "primary purpose" of a church, mosque, synagogue or other religious organization. Shouldn't any group be free to decide their own purpose?

Please call your Senator immediately and urge them to vote NO on SB 2!

Oregon Right to Life Alert: Pregnancy Resource Centers Under Attack

Oregon Right to Life Alert

Urgent: Pregnancy Resource Centers Under Attack

"Crisis Pregnancy Centers misinform and mislead women to deter or to delay them from having abortions"

-Senate Bill 776

Your help is urgently needed to stop SB 776. SB 776 is a dangerous and unnecessary bill that is a frontal attack on the ministry of all the Pregnancy Resource Centers in Oregon. We must make our voice heard in order to defeat this bill. SB 776 is a high priority for Planned Parenthood and the Democrats in the Legislature. Therefore we must act quickly.
  • Contact your State Representative and State Senator as soon as possible and urge them to oppose SB 776. Contact Information for your State Rep. and State Senator: http://www.leg.state.or.us/findlegsltr/
  • Contact Senate President Peter Courtney and ask him to please use his authority to stop this legislation. Senate President Peter Courtney: Phone (503)986-1600. E-mail: sen.petercourtney@state.or.us
  • Forward this alert on to your friends and family, your church, any small groups you belong to, and to any other appropriate lists.
Below you will find some more information on SB 776. You will also find three top reasons to oppose SB 776 that you can use when calling or writing your Legislators.

Top reasons to oppose SB 776:
  1. It is an unprecedented intrusion by Government into private charitable activity without due cause. Oregon's centers receive no state funds, so what justifies the state's interest?
  2. It is a one-sided investigation with a built-in bias. The bill begins with a series of statements slandering Pregnancy Resource Centers with no evidence to support them. It also requires no investigation of organizations that do provide abortions or referrals for abortions.
  3. Pregnancy Resource Centers follow nationally recognized standards of care.
  4. It is a clear attempt to build a case for regulating and closing Pregnancy Resource Centers in Oregon. This is part of a national attempt to discredit Pregnancy Resource Centers. http://www.care-net.org/WaxmanReport.html The bill is an attack on kind, compassionate, selfless people who only desire to help women in need.

Tony Dungy Proud to be Christian Coach

Tony Dungy Proud to be Christian Coach
by Pete Winn, associate editor

Super Bowl coach shared his faith with the world.

Tony DungyCoach Tony Dungy made history Sunday when his Indianapolis Colts defeated the Chicago Bears to win Super Bowl XLI. He not only became the first black coach to win the NFL championship, but also the first coach to openly talk about being a Christian immediately after the victory.

During the post-game show on CBS, Dungy was asked specifically about the "social significance" of his victory.

"I'm proud to be representing African-American coaches, to be the first African-American to win this. It means an awful lot to our country," Dungy said. "More than anything . . . (Chicago Bears Coach) Lovie Smith and I (are proud) not only (to be) the first two African-Americans (in the Super Bowl), but Christian coaches showing that you can win doing it the Lord's way. And we're more proud of that."

The comment came as no surprise, however, to Curt Smith, president of the Indiana Family Institute (IFI) in Indianapolis.

"Everything we know about Tony Dungy's life -- what we know about his private life, and certainly his public life -- shows him to be a man of committed faith,'' Smith said.

He called Dungy, who works with IFI on projects defending the family, "a wonderful role model for those in public life."

"America is a culture that loves sports, and to have someone at the pinnacle of the top sport -- in terms of viewer participation -- give a clear testimony and Christian witness, I think is just remarkable," Smith said.

Dungy is fairly soft-spoken, Smith said, and doesn't yell, bully or belittle his players or anyone else. He's well-respected in the community, though homosexual activists have occasionally given him grief.

"We live in a day that when you say what you're for, all kinds of people will then start criticizing you because that will imply that you are against things," Smith said. "But Tony Dungy has done a great job of speaking out from a heart that loves Jesus Christ and saying, 'As a Christian, I'm going to come in and do the best job I can.'

"To see that work, and work at the top level of our sports society gives everyone who's trying to 'walk the talk' tremendous encouragement."

Bill Pugh, president of Athletes in Action, has known and worked with Dungy since the coach was a player and assistant coach with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

"It's really shooting a positive message across the bow, certainly in the NFL," Pugh said, "that you can be a Christian coach who really does live out Christian values and be very successful in terms of wins and losses."

Friday's USA Today contained a full-page ad signed by Dungy and Lovie Smith that invited readers to learn more about Jesus Christ. The ad points people to the Beyond the Ultimate Web site , (http://www.beyondtheultimate.org) which was produced in association with Athletes in Action.

"As of 4 p.m. (Sunday) the Web site had received 171,000 hits and 500 people made decisions for Christ," Pugh said. "And that was before the game had started."

Dungy will be the keynote speaker at IFI's Friend of the Family banquet in March.

"Each year, the Family Institute hosts a dinner and we present an award to a national leader who is helping to strengthen the family," Curt Smith said. "Last year, I'm proud to say, we honored Shirley Dobson, and this year we'll be honoring Coach Dungy with our Friend of the Family Award."

Values USA Boycott Call "The View on NBC"

Hello All:
This Boycott comes from Guy at Values USA.
NBC needs to hear from you TODAY!!!
Please visit the Values Usa site to gain information on this boycott and how to contact NBC.

T&T
Capitol 3

Dear Pro-Family Leaders,

After reading Bob Knight’s excellent article about how the ABC show The View actively promotes homosexuality in general and in the military, and after consulting with some advisers and supporters, ValuesUSA is asking all the pro-family groups and activists to call for a boycott of the show.

Remember how successful this tactic was when I called for a boycott of the NBC show The Book Of Daniel which many of you supported. Not only did they cancel the show within a week, but they also cancelled all new productions of Will And Grace.

Many of you are heroes of mine. Many of you also agreed in August to participate in the ValuesUSA coalition. I urge you to call for a boycott in your own words and to you own supporters this week. We cannot allow open and flagrant promotion of homosexuality. In my opinion, we need to collectively oppose this. Whether ABC orders The View to mitigate their endorsement of homosexuality or not (but I think they will), this boycott we will send a loud and clear message and present a unified front so that the likes of ABC, NBC, FORD and other pro-gay entities that homosexuality is unacceptable and certainly unacceptable in the military. (A side benefit of this boycott is that it will show support for Gen. Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff who has taken tremendous heat for his public comments that homosexuality is immoral.)

We need to start this boycott this week. I am asking that ABC publicly repudiate The View’s stance on advocating for homosexuality in the military.

If you or your organization will support this boycott, and I hope you will, let me know as soon as possible and I will add you to the list to signatories which will be posted mid-week at www.ValuesUSA.net

Also list whatever website and organization you prefer me to list.
